Yes, it does work I worked in a bike shop for 8 1/2 years. I’ve seen too many people try to do this and then I have to go around and fix it. Just do yourself a favor buy a real chewing sand all the correct tools and don’t look back. It makes life so much easier. And the way you do it doesn’t work correctly. I get that they’re expensive specially the park tools.
Patience is a good thing to have, when trying to save money! My stand was expensive… but it’s good to know I could have done it without it. Sprung wheels can be fixed, I think. Requires unlacing the wheel and forcing it back into place. I’ve never done it because that takes even more time than lacing and truing the wheel.
While you keep mentioning that you are "centering" the wheel, you actually are making the wheel round. Your truing stand should speed the process up a bit.
Apparently my terminology is lacking in this area, sorry! That is what I meant though. Sometimes it’s just fun to know it’s possible without all the expensive do-dads of modern, expensive day. Thanks for watching! 😁👍🏻
@@ForslundFunFactory Yes, sometimes we are forced to find other ways to get things done...love the thought process. But owning a small shop, that fancy stuff helps me to get things done more quickly... everyone is always in a hurry for their bikes, HA! Thanks for sharing!

I actually have one! Just people are so worried to try. I hope this shows people that it’s not something to worry so much about.
Don't know if I've got that much patience. May require alkyhol.
Is there such a thing as a rim being sprung, not bent? If so, can that be corrected?
