I was in 1st grade in 1968. My parents used to go camping all over the Rockies from Yellowstone to the Mogollon Rim in Arizona. My favorite thing was finding ghost towns also ancient Anasazi ruins. I learned how to use a manual film camera when I was 6 years old.
Sarah and any off grid junkie just a word of caution about changing flat tires - when getting new tires installed insist on hand tight with a lug wrench not a impact driver .out in the middle of no where even Sasquarch may not get the lug nuts loose. Also throw away the cheap lug wrench and get a 4 way lug wrench .
Impact wrench or Hand tightened is fine as long as the lugs are properly torqued afterwards. I nearly had a tire fall off in the middle of nowhere due to improperly torqued lugs. 4 of the six had completely fallen off and the other two were barely hanging on by a half inch. Luckily I was able to tighten the remaining two and get back to town. All of the bolts were bent and had to be pounded out and replaced. The wheel as well because of all the flopping around made the bolt holes egg shaped instead of round. Would have been a complete nightmare if that tire had fallen off completely where we were. Properly torqued lug nuts can be broken loose easy enough even for those of us without much arm strength. I just use what little body weight I have and jump on the wrench to break them loose 😅 Anyway, that’s my unsolicited 2 cents worth of opinion. Properly torque the lug nuts and possibly save yourself from a huge disaster.
never goto a shop where a idiot uses an impact driver to tighten lug nuts .... I twisted a t wrench in half with my hands trying to get lug nuts off my 8 lug truck , had to get a socket and a breaker bar

TY-WH! Yep. I saw plenty of those when they demo older houses, and they are usually in the wall, with ropes an pulleys too. A real problem when the ropes rot out, but sometimes it's just a few hours work.
Hey Sarah, Thanks for taking us on this adventure! Both cottages were amazing, but that second one was fantastic, and obviously in good enough shape that it must still be used from time to time. I wonder about the history of the first one 🤔 Given how remote it is, it's hard to imagine people living there year round as recently as 1968. Wouldn't you just love to know the history around these places?! Either way, thanks for sharing your adventure here with us. Your channel is so cool and you are so entertaining! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Got to air down! Those KO2s wear fast...rotate and then upgrade to the new KO3s. You should make your way to the old Barker Ranch...super cool outing, but takes a full day. ...and yes some of those cabins in "___x__x___x___y" are maintained and usable if need be...just not the ones that are all full of rat disease. But over the years - maintained. Thanks for sharing!
That place is so sick have stayed there multiple times. We actual opened it up last time there was a tree that fell and blocked the road. But looks like you did find the third cabin up there that over looks the valley that you wont say. When you come down from the second cabin on the ridge you just go left. Its a really nice cabin as well and has some very old glass and some other cool artifacts
That weight looks like a 'window weight'. They were used inside window frames to counter the weight of the movable part of a window so they were easy to open, and didn't drop hard enough to shatter the glass when you closed it. One was each side, with rope and a pulley.
I used to live near Rosamund CA, had a friend who lived there. On the road out to her place, there was a graffitied, abandoned hanger. She told me that no one would go near it because Charlie's "Family" used to occupy it. Rosamund is a couple hours away from Bishop.
I agree with you Sarah Jane, GREAT find with a million dollar view . The great desert country IF one gets off the interstate highway !!! Harry in AK PS Used to get to the hills every chance we got when living in Fallon , NV for many years .
Wonder Hussey, love it when you read the newspapers, when you go into these cabins or these areas, it takes me back in time when you read them, don’t ever stop
Thank you Wonderhussy ❤ I do everything I can not to pass the flu to anyone else. The shared cabin brings back memories of traveling when people were welcoming not so fearful. Have a most wonderful day Wonderhussy
Have been up to that area many times. Usually in winter. The hilltop cabin looked much more mouse poop ridden than I remember. That cabin also used to have a good water collection system off the roof so there was usually water out back. And last but not least there are a couple more cabins in the area. One with a really nice deck but not as big a view. Worth exploring the area more. Your video is the 1st time I have ever seen the gate open. I have always parked at the bottom and walked in. I kind of like that better. Less people come in then. Feels more like real exploring. Hope you found a nice camp.
WonderHussy, PLEASE talk to your 4×4 shop about a HiLift jack. It WILL get you up AND out of MOST situations (along with your shovel) NECESSARY tool for 4 wheeling !!!
That "plumb bob" is actually a window sash counter-weight, very common in old fashioned windows. It's unlikely that primitive cabin had such a window installed, so they probably used it for something else. I used to have about 20 of tbose weights, left over from a house that burned down.
When I was younger I loved getting out and enjoying life but now I always worry am I gonna breakdown you have so much energy I love it god speed wonderhussy ❤
The weight is for the window. It is a counterweight. They ride inside the wall to help you lift the window open. A piece of rope ran over a pulley. This shack may not have had windows like that.
That heavy cast iron weight is a counterweight from a sash window, lets you slide the sash up and down and takes the weight to make it easy!
You guys are quick..LOL
Thank you for the interesting informative background information

And the newspaper….not cool what that rich lady said, buuuuuut I guess that’s how things were back then 🤷🏻♀️really sad! Thank you beautiful lady again for killing it in this video ✌🏼be safe 💜
I thought I knew where you were, but when I saw the rusted gate, I knew exactly where you are and where you're going. Love it up there.
I believe that the weight in the first cabin served as a window counter balance
TY-WH!
HEY HUSSY!!! Love your informational videos.
In 68 I was 18 going into the military , 6 years living the life LOL .
the front end of a truck you showed,, went to the International cab across the road,
This was such a cool video…..I really enjoy how you create your videos …..the old newspapers were fascinating! Stay safe ❤
Love the time you spent in the newspaper, it's like a look back in time.
Botanical desert plants! when the desert sniffs the rain. Loads mooore of that great desert eco-system content WH ... nu big fan in Oz 🌵👈
The solitude is alluring!
Hey FYI I was looking at your forerunner and it looks like you need to check out your front Ball joints possible alignment
Thanks for the thrilling ride over Rocks.❤
Boy that newspaper boy had a ride to deliver that paper… 😂
I hope they tipped him generously.
I used to live near Rosamund CA, had a friend who lived there. On the road out to her place, there was a graffitied, abandoned hanger. She told me that no one would go near it because Charlie's "Family" used to occupy it. Rosamund is a couple hours away from Bishop.
If you actually lived near "Rosamund", as I did some 45 years ago in Cal City, you would then know it's spelled "Rosamond".
I agree with you Sarah Jane, GREAT find with a million dollar view . The great desert country IF one gets off the interstate highway !!! Harry in AK PS Used to get to the hills every chance we got when living in Fallon , NV for many years .
I liked Mrs. Olsen pitching her coffee, but the coffee babe was more my style.
You're amazing. You inspire me. I finally got out of my shell this past weekend. I thought of you
Love your courage. You inspire me and I need it. 57 retired need motivation. I promise I'm a good person
Hi Hussy! Greetings from Redmond Oregon
Great video! Love your sense of humor! Keep 'em coming!!!
Wonder Hussey, love it when you read the newspapers, when you go into these cabins or these areas, it takes me back in time when you read them, don’t ever stop
The QT is quick tanning and that weight is from in the wall for the old windows. Weight so the window would stay open.
Sara, Thanks for showing such interesting places with your usual wonderful descriptions!
@WonderhussyAdventuresvc ah, err, don't have a means to text. Email? Sort of old school here.
She found the other one you mentioned, stay tuned until next week.
You know Sarah isn’t lying about not being a beer drinker when she mistakes a bottle opener for a flag mount.😉
WonderHussy, PLEASE talk to your 4×4 shop about a HiLift jack. It WILL get you up AND out of MOST situations (along with your shovel) NECESSARY tool for 4 wheeling !!!
It is so nice to watch your show because I am trapped inside of world of old age!
That "plumb bob" is actually a window sash counter-weight, very common in old fashioned windows. It's unlikely that primitive cabin had such a window installed, so they probably used it for something else. I used to have about 20 of tbose weights, left over from a house that burned down.
Thanks for Saving the trip !!!🙏🏼🎶🔑🦅🇺🇸🥊🌎🎡👀
When I was younger I loved getting out and enjoying life but now I always worry am I gonna breakdown you have so much energy I love it god speed wonderhussy ❤
I just turned 3 years old April of 1968. We were living in Burbank, CA just off the 5 and Alameda.
I wonder what the purpose is of the old washtub nailed on the side of the 2nd cabin.
The weight is for the window. It is a counterweight. They ride inside the wall to help you lift the window open. A piece of rope ran over a pulley. This shack may not have had windows like that.
