If the voters vote ONLY on performances, NICOLE SHOULD should be the winner. She is absotlutely PHENOMENAL in Sunset BLVD. She seriously deserves the Tony. Go Nicole!
Nicole is a lock. Audra is likely even though she isn’t the ideal sound for her role. The rest is open field and agree that what shows close will have a major impact on nominations in this highly competitive season. 👀
Saw both sunset and gypsy this weekend. It's Nicole's year. She was breathtaking in a stellar show. No criticism at all. Once in a lifetime performance and experience. Audra was in great form, and in a strong production, but there was something about this that didn't work. It felt forced and not a natural fit. Also, I wish they had done more in the production to highlight the new dimensions available with a diverse cast of color in this historical show. Missed opportunity and that may have made it feel more authentic.
Keep in mind Gypsy just started previews. Audra and the production as a whole still have WEEKS to tinker, and settle in. I saw Gypsy a few nights ago and was so impressed with the acting choices Audra is making….and she still has time to settle into the role more. Nicole has been doing this production and role longer….don’t count Audra out just yet…give her and the production time to breathe.
@@stacyh154 I was bored during Gypsy. If they cut some of it, maybe. But the performances are light years apart so hard to compare. I didn’t care for Gypsy. It’s dated. If it wins Revival, it would be a travesty.
Nicole’s transcendent performance should win the Tonys unless this prestigious award is political too which is sad and unfortunate because every performer should be vetted now to find out evidence where their political leanings are ! Perhaps the Tonys should be called the Dems’ Tonys and only performers with left leanings should win ? She didn’t even endorse anyone !Even the name Broadway connotes a broader audience perhaps it should be named Blueway instead of Broadway and I thought the stage should be a safe space for every performer regardless of race, gender , religion or politics . Am rooting for Nicole to win despite what everyone may think ! It is unfortunate too that this commentary had to change her mind because of baseless politic perceptions !
Maleah Joy Moon won her first nomination last season. I am very okay with Broadway newcomers winning if the performance warrants it and Nicole’s does. I would put Nicole as the only lock. It’s irrelevant what she did on social media which I think was overblown. I hope she wins. I saw Gypsy in early previews and was underwhelmed. I hope Audra doesn’t get nominated just because she’s Audra. I still don’t think that role works with her voice and the performance didn’t scream Tony Award to me. She had one good song. Based on what I saw, it would be a shame to rob another actress of a Tony nomination if she takes the slot. It shouldn’t be an automatic nomination just because she’s Audra. Joy Woods is likely to be nominated as Featured. Let that be the nomination it gets, plus Revival. If both actresses from Death get in, that’s 3. Would definitely keep an eye out for Mincemeat. I think Brayben will be forgotten by Tony selectors. Hoping for the best for Maybe Happy Ending. I hope it’s open through at least June. I haven’t heard anything bad about it.
Let’s remember that in 2003 a lot of the sentiments were the same with Bernadette. Bernie had a different take and was remarkable. She garnered the nomination.
I see a number of plays working in New Haven at the Yale Repertory, Hartford Stage and Shubert in CT, I haven’t seen a Broadway play in years because of the prices. I just wait until it travels. If it doesn’t, I’ll see ya next lifetime.
I saw both Gypsy (first preview) and Sunaet Boulevard last week. I came to specifically to see Audra in Gypsy because she is my favorite Broadway singer of all time. Sunset Boulevard was just an add on for me. I can say hands down, Nicole Scherzinger gives one of the greatest Broadway performances of the 21st century! I saw Patti Lupone in Gyosy 2008 and Lea Michele in Funny Girl (twice). Nicole is at that level of absolute BRILLIANCE! I have seen some intense shows in my life but this revival of Sunset Boulevard is probably the greatest Broadway show I have seen since Gypsy in 2008. Audra is great and her performance is certainly unique. However, the show felt like it had no reason to exist. There was ZERO imagination to the direction, stage design, costumes, choreography. The whole thing felt recycled and under rehearsed. Audra rarely lit up the stage. Her strong mix voice simply does not work for this music. If Nicole doesn't win, the Tony's sre a complete jole. This is the performance of a LIFETIME!
I totally agree with you Nicole should be the winner she gives her best every night totally mind blowing and hopefully the Tonys will not tarnish their reputation by kowtowing to political mob mentality !
So glad I am not alone in being underwhelmed by Audra in Gypsy. Is she an icon? Absolutely, but it is not the best role for her. That said, Nicole owns Norma Desmond and blows the roof off the St. James. Admittedly, I saw Gypsy in early previews, but it would have to be a significantly different performance for me to change my mind. I looked at my watch often.
I really appreciate your efforts! Could you help me with something unrelated: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
It is absolutely ridiculous that some precious and entitled people think Nicole doesn't deserve a Tony Award because of who she did or didn't vote for. She apologised and stated she did not vote the way people are assuming, not that it should matter. She didn't kill anyone's mother. The awards should be based on talent alone. The performer's personal lives should not come in to it at all. Sidenote - Both choices in the election were not great. It was like choosing between two buckets of shit, but endorsing a genocide using billions of US taxpayer's dollars played a bit part against the Democrats.
I flew from Paris only in order to see Sunset BLVD and Gypsy preview. If Audra is nothing but excellent, Nicole Scherzinger is simply PHENOMENAL in Sunset BLVD. It makes no doubt in my mind she is clearly the most deserving here. I truely hope she wins.
I saw sunset a few weeks ago and it was the greatest theater performance I’ve ever seen. She somehow manages to find the balance between broadway diva and scream queen. The fact that she might not win due to a misunderstanding is why we are stuck with trump. People were tired of being dragged for nonsense. Everyone knows she’s a super Christian who supports the gays, no different from Dolly Parton or Kristen chenowith.
We are stuck with Trump because for many people being a rapis t white supremacis t is not a deal breaker, not because some people get criticized for their actions.
There wasn't a misunderstanding. She liked a pro-Trump (as in can't wait for him to be elected) RFK Jr. post and she's anti-choice. Brand is a garbage person who's found refuge with RWers. At no point did she say she didn't vote for Trump or that she supported Kamala. (I'm skeptical about her support her vaccines if she's following RFK Jr but I'll wait for more definitive info. Not holding my breath on hearing support for trans people.) This is who she is. You don't get to ask for an award from an inclusive community while supporting people who seek to harm that community. The nerve. PS. Kristin and Dolly are pro-LGBTQ+ and Dolly is famously out there being vocally pro-trans, anti-racist and pro-vaccine (not that Kristin isn't, just saying what we know). Christian =/= MAGA or conservative so no, this is not about being devout.
Audra will win big time! First of all, her performance is phenomenal! And she plays 8 times a week! Nicole plays only 7 perfs a week, why can't she play 8? All the other women who starred in Gypsy in previous productions played 8 times a week! Also, her political drama will hurt her most definitely. She does not understand how the theatrical community feels about Mr. Trump. When you are a public figure, you need to watch very carefully what you do and what you say. Mr. Trump is no friend to the Broadway community! Her performance in SUNSET is wonderful, but in my humble opinion, Audra is more than phenomenal!
I cannot believe how many people in this comment section adored Sunset. I thought it was the most disappointing, and almost the WORST production (the book & score are imo brilliant) i have ever seen in my life, even if the intentions were in a really good place. Im rooting for Audra, but expecting a shock this year. Jasmine Amy Rogers maybe?
They should inscribe the Best Actress in a Musical Tony Award now, with the name Nicole Scherzinger.

The Penzance production said that Jinkx’s character will be the female lead in the reimagined version as opposed to supporting in the operetta

Nothing to do with who's she voted for...as an human community we deserve to vote anybody...it just insane!!!

I’m pretty sure Adrienne Warren won a Tony for Tina and not just nominated
Yup, true!
Yeah she definitely did (deservedly so!)

We all know Nicole Scherzinger will snatch that Tony. No one, i repeat NO ONE its better than her right now.

IMO Comparing Hello Dolly Revival to Gypsy - is not quite fair Hello Dolly/Dolly Levi is fictional. GYPSY Rose Lee was a real person as was Mama Rose.
I have McDonald, Scherzinger, Menzel, Rogers, and Brayben
Audra is great, but will they give her a 7th Tony?❤
