Even though Paul Di'Anno was more known for having an aggressive voice and look, I think deep down he was a sensitive guy. I think that’s why songs like Strange World and Remember Tomorrow exist. It showed a tender side of him. He could sing like an angel if he wanted to. Rest in peace Paul Di'Anno, my favorite Iron Maiden singer. ❤

It's almost like 2 different bands. I remember when the first album with Bruce came out, I didn't like it at first, but I grew to be a fan of it. If Paul had stayed, they would have been more mainstream, and Adrian Smith would have had more influence. If Bruce had been there from the beginning, I don't think they would have been as big at first, but the end result would have been the same.
I’m a Bruce guy through and through. But something certainly was lost with Paul’s departure. I also agree that Bruce never shared the struggle from the beginning with the band because everything was already laid out for him when he took over. Despite these observations, I don’t agree that Maiden would have been able to grow to the pinnacle of their genre, and they certainly would have not been sustainable throughout these last 50 years with Paul. Even if Paul didn’t have his drug problems, his style would have remained limited and they would have been nothing more than punk-metal band who would certainly not be around in 2024, and most of us would have probably never heard of them to begin with. So in a way, as much as those who favor Paul, there’s a good chance wouldn’t have ever known of Maiden’s first two albums if it wasn’t for the band and Bruce taking things to the ultimate level for which they have for all these years

Bonus points for anyone who can identify the one visible Maiden album on screen during this discussion! (And yes, my t-shirt is really THAT old.)
Thanks Tristan.
Of course! And thank you Dana!

Great insights! Thanks for sharing this🤘
Well said, I agree. I think of them as two different bands and love them both. Made it harder to actually argue with Tris!
