It could also be that a lot of football players grew up broke and so they're hungrier for success because they know it means money. If I recall correctly Manziel grew up with money so maybe he didn't have the hunger because he didn't need the money.

@@robertridley9279 I think that Manziel never faced much adversity in his life, both off the field because of his parents' wealth and on the field because he was so advanced for his age. People who never learn to deal with adversity often give up then rationalize it as they never really cared. The old "I wasn't really trying!" that annoying douchebag on the playground says halfway through the race when he can see you're beating him.

  • @MarquisdeSuave
    @MarquisdeSuave 2 года назад +33

Was he ever really all that great as a prospect?
Dont get me wrong, he was a GREAT college QB but as an NFL QB did he have the goods or were we all fooled by the hype?.
He had below average arm strength even in college. He was terrible at reading defense and wasnt the most accurate of passers.
He reminded me a lot of Brett Favre in his ability to make something happen when a play broke down. The big problem was those plays were maybe 5-10% of Favre's total production. With Manziel it was closer to 20-25%. Receivers would go out, play would break down and Manziel would tuck and run and then either pass ahead if a defender dropped off coverage to attack him before he hit the line or run the ball if he had enough open field ahead lf him. That worked for Manziel in college, it certainly was not something he could bank on in the NFL, at least not at the rate he was used to.
His arm was.....below average at best. That doesnt mean that he couldnt have a career, lots of QB's had great careers with an average arm, Peyton Manning didnt have a rocket arm for example, but for Manziel, an undersized QB who not only didnt have a good arm but also didnt have good touch on his deep balls.....that was going to be a problem.
Anyway, I think a lot of people caught on about Manziel. Could he have grown into the position eventually? Sure, absolutely, but that was if he was a really hard worker who prepared himself in the same manner as a Manning or Brady. Russell Wilson has had a HoF career by knowing every single defensive set he's playing against on Sunday. Manziel however was not willing to put in that kind of work. Manziel liked the celebrity but he wasnt willing to pit the time in above and beyond what he accomplished in college.

Damn, skip hates LeBron so much bruh.
Skips from Oklahoma! Went to college at Vanderbilt (Tennessee). He's got no logica reason to Stan money manzel! Especially not in the 2010! Didn't LeBron win ALL of his rings from 2010-2020?? How could skip say manzel would be bigger then LeBron in Cleveland!? He single handedly revived the cavaliers franchise. What are we talking about skip!

To this day, Johnny is one of my biggest inspirations. You can learn just as much from squandered opportunities as you can from taking advantage of opportunity.

He was a joke I could not believe we draft him smh...... He was small, lack arm strength, not that athletic. Worst pick ever he was bust!!! It seem to me Skip loves all the bad QB ie.... below average Baker.

He had natural ability. He was just immature to get better. Plus he was a Browns QB. They never fare well.

I kinda don't understand how he's a bust, when most of the coverage I read or saw on ESPN etc, said he's gonna be a bust. I didn't know one person that thought he would translate into the pros at all.

Not sure if a person who was drafted 22nd qualifies to be a bust. Definitely a disappointment but not a bust.

In the NFL first round draft picks have way more weight to it than the NBA there are six rounds in the NFL so he definitely qualifies

I dont think Manziel could have made the league or had any recognition if he didnt party or get involved in celebrity life. He needed to lifestyle to get looks and build hype. If he focused on the game only he would have been better in college but also would never be noticed.

I have to disagree on the ever..Todd Marinovich, OJ Mayo, Drew Henson, Dan Kendra, and JaMarcus Russell all come to mind. Johnny Football reminds me of Jahlil Okafor. Hype but they lack the necessary tools and physical ability to succeed professionally. Like Jahlil, I don't know if it would have mattered if he was on his best behavior it may not have made a difference

Manziel was the worst one of the biggest bust . Browns should have never drafted him, I was shock that they did draft him. Showed that no one in the Browns front office did they HW. He is small, lack arm strength , and is unathleic . That background style of play will not work in the league.
