You are extremely talented at verbalizing abstract concepts about songwriting, that are so important ❤ . It's fascinating to see how you manage to translate complex ideas into such simple explanations. I would love to see more content like this from you!
I knew I had to watch this after it appeared thrice on my recommendations! Great stuff fam! Bigup yourself and all the artists and here out to create quality music.
I write metal and country and I’m in a couple bands, but having a daughter I listen to Taylor daily and I learn so much from her song writing it’s genius I made a song about losing a friend too early and played on the emotion but made the chorus uplifting and it’s been by far my best selling / streamed song I’ve ever done I’m finding my self writing hooks better than I’ve ever done and recently won awards for my songwriting. Which to me is crazy but for all the Taylor swift haters there’s so much you can learn from her songs Great video bud keep it up Be cool to do a collab with someone like yourself
@producedbyphil That 1st track is describing a BDP (Borderline Personality Disorder) episode, and yes, I work in mental health, as well as produce electronic music in Ableton/BitWig Studio 5 and Reaper
This is a great video but it also explains why modern music has become so boring. Everyone is working to the same templates. No wonder I’m going through an early/mid period Genesis listening phase. 😂
Oh nice. Sort of related to this, I was studying counting crows. They do this thing where in their verses and choruses, where they compress and build on top of this. So instead of doing the setup and release once, it's kinda cool. They do set up, release -> into setup -> then release. I had been doing that unintentionally, but when I saw them do it, it really struck me
I'd like to see a video like this on other songs like "Solid" by Ashford & Simpson -- "Let"s Hear It for the Boy" by Denice Williams -- "The Heat is On" by Kenny Logins -- "What a Fool Believes" by The Doobie Brothers.
Check out Next Semester by Twenty Øne Piløts. It's so tense all the way through. The chorus ends on a weird chord that doesn't totally resolve, the drums don't stop for anything...it's only the very end of the song that gives all the release you need. It's amazing.
That's great advice. Being a producer of my lyrics and instrumentals, it is hard to get the whole song done in one day. It's like I make 4 little beats or sequences in MPC, and craft them into one song. But lyrically as a person I feel deep sensical emotions over longer periods of time, that takes time and understanding to craft quality meaningful, lasting lyrics. Plus, nowadays, musicians in the box are doing their own mixing and mastering as well. I'd recommend, Master Writer, or even some AI, help. I use Freshbots to get some ideas, and break past the barriers. good luck, nice plug ins too, I saw those used in Mix with the Masters, and have switched to some of those also.
Tension and release? Of course. Contrast is everything in any medium. Security and Distress. Quick question: why are you encouraging your viewers to throw your notes away? 5:28
Ironically, you nearly lost me in the first part of this. The second half is decent but I nearly dropped off when you were stating a bunch of (in my experience unfounded) opiniona as gospel truths. No, not everyone likes being pandered to in art. Billie Eilish wins stacks of awards and billions of streams while she subverts expectations and brings something new (to pop) for the listener. Many people want to be entertained, not flattered. Many of us walk out of predictable movies because they're adding nothing. If we know what's going to happen, we can just leave and have lost nothing. If i can write a script as well as the writer in my head, why am I wasting my time?
im sorry but your marker had NO business doing that sound over paper 😭 anyway, edit after watching the whole video: thank you for this useful information! it's been something I've tried to replicate before but now that you put it into right words I get it so much better! 🫂
Create tension, then release it, that's the whole video
Yeah, thought I was crazy for not being impressed like everyone else
he's still giving good advice why you complaining lmao
Mind = blown. Seriously, the examples made this feel like a parody video.
But he didn't write release...he wrote, relase!😅
thank you for saving me time lmao

That's a very good question. This channel is fire
You’re a great teacher! Makes so much sense
Thanks so much!
The rubber band throughout the entire thing was a nice touch to set up the tension and release point.
Dude you are a legend. I've been trying to put to words this strategy and emotion, you described and explained it so well. Cheers!
Thanks so much for the love man. 🙏
Your videos are so cool. I'm binge watching you
I knew I had to watch this after it appeared thrice on my recommendations!
Great stuff fam! Bigup yourself and all the artists and here out to create quality music.
nice, thank you, you gave me plenty to think about!
I think blank space is a great song because of the way context given after the chorus flips the whole meaning of the chorus the second time it plays
Love that you included multiple examples
Great video, the only problem with it is that you felt pain at the wrong hand at 1:20 😅
LMAO I got a bit stuck on that. Great content !
maybe on purpose? lol
I love it man. Thank you
Good stuff! Gonna check out that playlist
Well done mate

The sound your pen makes on the paper was way distracting like nails on chalkboard lol but I think you are on to something. Im subscribing!
Appreciate you mate! I'll turn it down in the mix for the next time
I came to say the same thing the sound of marker and paper stopped me from enjoying this video sadly and i was very interested
I saw you fixed this in future videos though INSTANTLY subscribed
@producedbyphil That 1st track is describing a BDP (Borderline Personality Disorder) episode, and yes, I work in mental health, as well as produce electronic music in Ableton/BitWig Studio 5 and Reaper
@@producedbyphilI quite like the sound of the marker, isolate it in the audio and use it as a White noise riser
Thank for the advice 🙌👏 Subscribed

The number one rule is there are no rules.

Best thumbnail ever 😂😂😂
I’m just joking
Wow
You made good points, but I am feeling tension from the way that you spell “relase”. 🙂
What Badge can I get for 2:25? Is there an ADHD edit? Kidding-not-kidding. 😊 Cheers. I'll come back later. Gotta make the doughnuts.
But what if I'm not here for Taylor Swift, like...at all?
🦻🏾
Relase? 😂
