Who is Ron Spomer
For 44 years I’ve had the good fortune to photograph and write about my passion - the outdoor life. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me - from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa’s cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I’ve photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I've seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I’ve tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that’s the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world.

for the MOLLE portion, once you find a solid spot for your pouches, you will want to weave it between both the pouch and the vest rather than just the vest. By doing it that way, the pouch is more secure and less prone to wobbling around. Love the vest and wish I saw this when I was in the market. Settled on the Alps Outdoorz and its been great so far.
Excellent point! Properly weaving the pouch straps is a must.
Great review, great product! My son-in-law (who I hunt with) got the all-in-bundle last fall and loves it. Between seeing his in action, and your video, I’m now all set as well. Indeed, my all-in- bundle just arrived.
Appreciate you!
I can't believe that I actually owned a piece of equipment before Mr. Spomer. Its everything he says it is, and it come in green too for doves, ducks and turkey.
Only thing missing for turkey would be a padded, fold down seat.
Can I ask what u paid for it sir?
It's not cheap. But it will last you a lifetime. $206.97, I added a one quick open shell holder and the rather nifty gun holder.@@jakepiemme9600
@@leewoiteshek4192 appreciate it Lee and thanks
Just got mine in the mail! I'm beyond excited for this season!
Ron what a great review! Thanks for sharing!
Chief Upland is a small show as Ron noted, but Jake is a great guy to deal with. Have some patience, I believe they are quite back ordered!
Great review Ron. It's good to see my home state of South Dakota get some love on RUclips. I'll be picking one of these up for quail and chukars.
1)Final Rise
2)Pyke
I watch because Ron is the truth.
Looks quite well thought out! I say this as a german.
Nice review but pricey. I started with one from Mothers some 15 years ago and still have it but it's orange has faded. I picked up the camelback upland hydration vest and used it 90% of the time for the past 8 years. With the bottom of the front pockets all shredded and zippers broken, I finally replaced it with the Tenzing BV16. Of the three, I like the Tenzing the most. While the Tenzing has a compartment for the water bladder, there's no water bottle pouch - which I think is a BIG MISS!
Can’t wait for you to do that video on that 6.5 x 280 Ak. improved what a oddball cartridge but it looked pretty nice
I’m surprised how many people don’t know how to properly install a Molle system. He’s also doing it wrong.
Nice looking vest.
Great review. So that is being held together by just a zipper at the top? Seem to me that when th pack is fully loaded the zipper will fail pretty fast?
I can invite him to dinner 😂 brilliant.
looks like quality! but I do like my old Härkila backpack. Not so many pockets to lose things
Good looking pack!
Been researching vests and this one is on my radar. Can you tell me if a box of shells will fit into either of those pockets without pulling them out of the box? Id like to keep one box in each for balance. Also curious if that vest works well in the warmer weather or gets too hot. Im in west texas and will be doing some upland hunting in the coming year. Our year old chocolate lab finishes his pro training tomorrow and we get him back. Getting excited for the upcoming bird seasons!!
Our Waterproof Ammo Box is designed for exactly that. It fits full box of shells including the cardboard box. Our Quick Grab Ammo Pouch also fits more than a box of shells, just not in the cardboard box itself. Thanks for your interest!
I’d love to have one without the orange. Be a great turkey hunting vest as well.
Jack, turns out Chief Upland offers a non-orange version!
@@RonSpomerOutdoors Thanks Ron... I’ll definitely look into it.
@@RonSpomerOutdoors Does this vest have the 500 square inch of hunter orange? And does it sound like a trash bag while walking?
@@b.c.gamingss I don't know about the 500 inches. Probably, but most is on the back. Not much on front. No plastic bag sound though. Quite comfortable and quiet while walking.
Great review!!
do you think this vest is large enough for a coyote that a person might want to pack out if the fur was worth anything.
Absolutely. It will carry turkeys, and can also carry dogs (for example if they are injured.)
But Ron! Tell us more about that shotgun!
First time I saw ya Ron, I thought you were a major league spud .... but yer actually pretty funny. Kinda like the Bill Dance of the hunt world.
Brock, I'm not sure if a spud is derogatory or complimentary, but as Popeye always said (this is going back to the mid-20th century, so might miss your headlights) "I yam what I yam."
@@RonSpomerOutdoors Complimentary my good man ... headlights are xenon and aligned.
Mr spomer what kind of rifle is that you have in the beginning? I really liked it
That is a Holland Custom on a M700 long action chambered 6.5-280 AI. Sub-MOA all day. Google Hollandgunsmithing.
I'm curious with all the gear and bird, how much extra weight.. approximately? Love the podcast great content. From Northeastern Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 God bless..🇺🇸 Oh.. l for got lm interested in selling my bolt action 300 Savage short mag, and get myself a 7mm Rem mag like the timberland. What would you suggest?
Base weight of vest 2.6 pounds. Figure 2.75# per rooster pheasant. Pockets are perhaps 4 ounces each average. Of course, 100 shells adds ore than I want to carry, but 30 to 50 wouldn't be uncalled for on some of my all-day jaunts in mixed bag country. This is part of the reason I often shoot 28 gauge instead of 20.
Very nice vest!!!
I've got a question: have you got to use bismuth cartridges by law or is it your choice?
Bismuth (non-toxic shot) by law in many parts of SD (pretty much all State and Federal owned hunting lands.) I Just use it or steel everywhere to keep things simple. Those Kent loads have been working well.
@@RonSpomerOutdoors thanx Ron! Here in europe law is going to forbid the use of lead starting from 2023. The fact is that bismuth cartridges are very, very expensive. I hope that steel is going to be lethal enough.
Greetings from Italy
@@marcorizzato7180 I've found steel shot deadly on upland birds since 1980.
@@RonSpomerOutdoors 👍
The problem with steel is classic shotguns can't use it, steel destroys the older barrels.
Interesting vest, great review.
I guess it is quite off topic but do anybody know of a good site to stream newly released movies online?
@Jett Landon Lately I have been using flixzone. Just google for it :)
@Jayceon Santana Yea, been using flixzone for since march myself :)
@Jayceon Santana Thanks, I signed up and it seems to work =) Appreciate it !!
@Jett Landon happy to help :)
Where is this vest made?
Jake......from State Farm? What are you wearing Jake? Uh, an upland vest
And khakis 😁
