I find it wild that people consider a car in this price range that does 0-60 in 6.5 seconds “slow”. I believe this is as fast as a VW GTI and maybe faster than a Honda Civic Si
But here’s the funny thing why are we rating cars based on 0-60 something you shouldn’t need to use on public road ways to begin with cars for me are merely a tool from point a to b. I don’t need fast i need cheap yet reliable realistically no one needs anything else then that we dont need sports cars and luxury vehicles.
Excellent Review! You covered everything in a clear and concise manor without a bunch of distracting music or hyped up opinions. I depended on videos like yours to make our decision to buy our 2023 Bolt EVU Premier. Within the first 1000 miles we both just Love it. My wife loves it because of its comfort and ability to see the road as you point out. It replaced our Honda Fit and it’s been an easy and joyful transition. This car is Smoother, Quicker, More Modern with Safety Features and with the Sun and Sound and power seats, remote start and charge at home, no more oil changes or gas stations, it just a Much Nicer Car in Every Possible Way. We do 99.9% of our driving within 50 miles so it’s great for stop and go around town but we’ve also been out on the highway and it feels very solid. It doesn’t feel like a little car. We Love Our New Bolt and our Shih Tzu copilot loves it too. Thank You for a Great Video! We hope you love yours too.
BOLT a solid car? It feels like a card board rocky econo box when compared to our Gen1 VOLT, which isn't much bigger, but it feels like you're driving a SILVERADO. But, at the price point and what you get for the money I'm happy with my BOLT EUV. Wanted the ID.4, but for 12K more? No thanks!!!!!
Last April, I ordered a 2023 Bolt EV to replace my 2015 Honda Fit. I have been first on the local dealer's waiting list for going on 7 weeks. All I can do is watch videos like this & take vicarious rides.
I've had a 22 Bolt EV 2LT for about a year now. I use it as my daily driver, I commute to another city, about 32 miles one way. I have a home level 2 charger and have the car set to charge to about 80%, which means I charge it about twice a week, with some left over for getting around town. My charger tells me I spend about $7-8 on a charge, telemetry statistics from Chevrolet tell me I'm getting about 135 mpg equivalent. It has the leather interior, Bose sound system, the 360 cameras, wireless phone charger. Sooo quiet inside. It's not that different from a gas car where I look at my gauges and figure out if I have enough power to do what I need. I plug it in and it's ready in the morning. It's nice not to have to stop for gas. It's also nice not to have to worry about oil changes, transmission service, brake pads, radiator flushes, air filters, engine sensors, coil packs, spark plugs. I had the tires rotated when I got my state inspection. No issues. If I had to pick something I don't like; Chevrolet's lane keeping assist needs to go back to the drawing board. It's almost worthless. It's not a Tesla, but it's close enough and I drove it off the lot with $25,000 of Elon Musk's money in my pocket.
I agree very quiet, some reviewers seem to disagree, I don't get it. "Not the quickest"? It's acceleration is plenty quick. Lane keep almost useless, I think they didn't want to outshine their super Cruise. Smooth ride, possibly softened for the refresh. I also prefer to not contribute to Musk, easy as +$10K is out of the question.
Geese at 1:53 I thought another car was hitting you!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. I was like OH sh!!! I’m watching this video because my local gas station I go to a lot was literally out of gas and I’m mad. Looks like they charged my credit card as well for no gas coming out of the pump. Now I’m wanting this car.
I had to rewatch that part to remember what that was. It’s kind of a jump scare it does come out of nowhere. Lol! 😆😆
Well dang if you don’t seem like the sweetest person in the world. And a solid car reviewer! I have a 2017 Bolt and love it overall, your description of the away-from-home charging being the biggest weakness is spot on. Enjoyed the video! 👏🏼
I've ordered the 2023 Bolt EV in Mosaic Black. Once a week I check the order status and after more than a month it still hasn't been built. I hate this waiting lol. I hope it will arrive in the next couple of months. Gr8 review. 🚙 🇺🇸
I think you'll love it when you get it. Just bought the 2023 EUV, for the price, you just can't beat it. Mine is the premier trim, and I love it 😀
My Mosaic Black 2LT is waiting for me at the dealer. You shouldn't have to wait much longer! At least they're being built!!
I think the weirdest thing about the Bolt is that the giant lights on the back are just daytime running lights and the tiny red lights at the bottom are used as the brake lights.
It is quirky, but it also has the third upper brake light too, so it should be fine... Not how I would have do it tho. ;-)
I own one… the entire back of the vehicle is very bright when the brakes are applied. The reason for this is because of the euro inclusive safety design. When the hatch is up… the brake lights have to be visible to oncoming drivers. We love ours!
To be honest, there are lot of things strange about the Bolt.
@@smarticus6384 To be honest, I completely disagree. For EV newbies, I think it's a very easy transition from ICE engines because it already feels familiar. Just to spew negativity about the Bolt without so much as naming one single thing to illustrate your position renders your comment meaningless.
@@Tee-Catin Looks are entirely subjective. But one thing the Bolt is for sure is a great value. The pricing, along with the tax incentive, gives a buyer thousands of reasons to buy one. I agree 100% with your comment about being an easy transition from an ICE vehicle.
My '23 Lt euv bolt is for commuting, and I charge at home, so the slower charging isn't an impediment in my situation. To me, the Bolt is the best deal in the lower-priced EV category.
DCFC might be slow, but that also keeps degradation to bare minimum. I charge mine 99% of the time on L2 (24 AMP) or even L1 8 AMPS if I don't plan using it for a day or 2.
We absolutely ❤ ours! It’s a fantastic commuter car… saves us a ton of fuel and therefore, the planet a ton of carbon each month.
Except all the carbon that we are depriving vegetation and all the carbon used to mine minerals, transport them and processing. And all the coal fired plants
Excellent review!
Excellent review of the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV. I currently drive a used 2020 Chevrolet Bolt EV and it gets me where I need to go on a daily basis.
¡Qué bueno! Te he echado de menos, Lorena. ¡Gracias!
Love this review! You made it super friendly and informative
Yeeeees been waiting on this one 🤩
Excellent review, very pertinent and good attention to details. Thanks!
An excellent review. Very informative. Thanks!
I’m so happy I found you again! Not sure what happened but it’s been a long time. Then I remembered the gal with the dog. I searched and searched - nada. Then I typed in “Waymo review in Phoenix” and voila - there you were!
I really enjoy your reviews - compact, hit all the important points, and honest. Very glad to reconnect. 😅
if i didn't already have a good car i'd get one of these now
great to the point review! subscribing!
Oh. Let Kai ride in the EV!
Great review. Ur content is awesome.
Great review!
Nice review just wish a dealer had one to sell.
I would take this over the Leaf.
In Oklahoma, dealers are all adding $5000 on top of MSRP for these. So much for an affordable EV.
Simple. Tell those dealers to go fuck themselves. If every potential buyer does that and they sit on the lot, they'll take off 5K from MSRP. They only understand the $$$$ language.
They even suck in s cal, either markups or mandatory add-ons like paint protection package for $1,600. They're in high demand so there's not much you can do.
Drove 60 miles to a dealer charging MSRP... completely worthwhile 2 hour round trip.
@@davidhale9672 Where, if I may ask?
I wanted to buy a Chevy Bolt. The fires did not scare me off of them, but the slower charge rate did.
I now realize that I could have lived with it since most of my trips are local and I could charge at home.
Most of the fast chargers out there are either broken to a slower 30-40 rate or have a max of 50 anyway. Sad state of affairs :-(
BOLT is made very POORLY and the car & Battery pack Does not last long.
@@markplott4820 based on what info?
@@jayroc5807 - MUNRO Teardown and also based on other TECHNICAL analysis.
BOLT still using OUTDATED Pouch Li cells from LG, not Advanced.
BOLT is too HEAVY w/ too many Fastners , & too many Brackets holding up more Brackets.
its Thermal & HVAC leave alot to be Desired.
TESLA Supermanifold, Superbottle & HEAT pump is the BEST and most Efficient system.
BOLT is built as a Compliance car, and built on a GAS car Platform, its even Assembeled in a former Chevy Sparq factory. using a gm EV2 Platform.
BOLT is lacking Advanced batteries, Structural battery pack & Gigacast Underbody.
@@markplott4820 you're use of caps only degrades your credibility
Good thing all level 2 chargers at home charge exactly the same way, the other benefit to the Bolt is Chevy will reimburse you to install the level 2 charger at your home.
Yup. A global corporation will give you money out of their pockets…
The home charging installed can be sketchy, I already have, so I got a $500 evgo charging credit.
I suspect the DCFC max rate will never change for this car. That being said, for people who rarely road trip more than 500 miles in a day, this is a perfect EV.
the BOLT is a Conmpliance car, built on a OUTDATED gas car Platform.
gm does not even build the BOLT , its 80% made by LG.
gm , just Assembles the car POORLY.
@@markplott4820 ok. Still a decent car- it could be amazing with 100 kW DCFC. My e-Golf is great for 99% of my trips and I currently put ~14,000 miles a year on it.
@@barryw9473 - BOLT is not even Decent, a Wuling mini or Chang-Li is a decent car.
@@markplott4820 it's a decent car for those who don't want to spend 50+K and who aren't trying to prove anything to anyone. The BOLT is the Corolla of EVs. The guy driving a Bugatti can also look down on whatever you have and say it's no decent to his standard.
@@markplott4820 LG builds the battery pack. Not the vehicle. If the BOLT is poorly assembled then Tesla is "medicocrily" assembled.
Great review. I agree that 50 kW DC charging is a major miss for this vehicle. Hard to recommend it for anything other than charge-at-home, city driving (no roadtrips). I liked your triforce necklace!
The Bolt just has older technology, that’s why the DCFC is slow. Have a 2020 Bolt and for trips where you just stop to charge once, it’s not too bad. The actual range is a bit higher than EPA estimates in the summer and about %25 less in winter. With winter tires, it’s pretty good in snow.
Mostly agree, although it can depend a lot of someone's definition of a road trip. I use my Bolt mostly for my 120 mile round trip commute, and it works great for that...
We do take it on a "road trip" to visit family from time to time. That is a 300 mile one way trip. That's one charging stop on the drive (which we always did anyway, to stop for food/break) and then destination charging while we are there.
I do agree if your road trip will require more than one stop to charge, it really starts to add time to your trip...
Like a lot of cars, it's not perfect for all situations, but it could be the right car for a lot of people...
@@desiv1170
The average person does not travel any more than 30 miles total per day! Very few people drive 60 or more miles per day. So in essence 250 miles per charge is way, way more than the average Joe would use. Forget about Elon Musk; the Chevy Bolt doesn’t have a big mouth!
@@CasperChicago Totally agree, although there is average daily and road trips.
I know the Bolt is more than capable, as even with my 120 mile round trip commute, it's totally fine.
As for road tripping, different people have different definitions of that, and different habits. For me, stopping for an hour during a road trip isn't a big deal, as I generally would for food/stretching/etc anyway...
But if someone makes more than a few long road trips and they are the type of person who stops for as short a period of time as possible, the Bolt might not be the best choice for them. ;-)
That said, love mine...
Yes. The real problem with the slow DC fast charging rate is not about road trips, it's about people who can't charge at home, like people who live in apartments. They really need faster charging since they will be going to public chargers at least as often as ICE drivers go to the gas station. Spending over an hour charging away from home one or more times a week will become an extremely annoying chore very quickly, especially during the winter for people in colder climates. This car would otherwise be PERFECT for those people. It's a shame.
Great review. Yes it would be nice to have a faster charge rate but this is a CHEAP EV. You get what you pay for. To me this car is the perfect car for somebody with a garage who can charge at home and uses it as a city commuter. This is not your New York to LA EV.
one word - PLASTIC.
@@markplott4820 so?
@@markplott4820 All cars are plastic interiors. So, why is it a problem on that one? The 2022 and 2023 have far better interiors than the 1st Gen had.
How many people drive from NY to LA? Complete waste of time and money. You go that kind of distance, you sit in a plane and you're there in a few hours. You can do it in a BOLT if you just retired last week.
I think most people think chrome-plated plastic is metal.
GM is halting production at the end of 2023 on the bolt. Going to build electric pick ups at lake Orion plant.
Look at lev mic instructions maybe you can place it better to not allow pick up of environment noises so much. I see it thru all the videos :((( Maybe direct on chest taping will give better results + also all some low tone to voice. Or lev change is needed. Thanks for your work ))) !
Nice touch w the stuffed dog. Do you happen to know if the AZ hot summers have an effect on battery life long term? Thanks
Shouldn't, since it has actively cooled batteries.
Not many objects or beings benefit from a super hot long summer
Thanks for reviewing this car. I just bought a 1LT a week ago and am very interested in what other people think about it. I am pretty happy with it so far especially since I got it with no dealer markup. ($29,430 with red paint, Comfort and Convenience and Driver Confidence packages). I think it's a lot of bang for your buck considering that I'll be able to claim the full $7500 tax credit making the sale price basically $22,000 so it's easy to forgive its shortcomings. My last car was a 2014 BMW i3 with a REX and having more all electric range is nice.
Yesterday, I took it on its first long trip to visit my daughter. The trip was about 400 miles total. Due to the cold weather, I figure the range was closer to about 220 miles vs 259. I also drove slower (60-65 mph) when it didn't hinder traffic behind me to stretch the mileage a bit. I DC fast charged it twice and charged it with my daughter's dryer plug. With the first DC fast charge, I charged at an Electrify America station for about 50 mins from 72%-91% delivering 14.4 kW/h and a max charge rate of 24 kW. It hovered around 14 or 15 kW for most of the session probably because of the battery's state of charge. At my Daughter's house, I charged for about 5 1/2 hours from 28%-71% adding about 100 miles. With the second fast charging session on the way home, I charged it at the same Electrify American station for about 51 minutes from 12%-70% delivering 40.9 kWh with a max charge rate of 54 kW. It was 51 or 52 kW for most of the charge.
West Texas is charging desert, leading to the first two charges being less productive. If I just had another DC fast charger within 70 miles from my daughter's house, I could take advantage of the full 50 kW charging speed heading there. I feel like we are getting close to the time when EVs will be practical for most people. Fingers crossed that the DC fast charging networks actually get expanded as promised.
Chevy BOLT is a poor Choice for a BEV car in 2023.
its a Compliance car, built on a GAS car Platform.
its an INEFFICIENT FWD without a FRUNK.
TESLA model 3 SR is Superior in every way, Tesla RWD is Actually more powerful than Existing AWD cars, and even works great in the SNOW.
Tesla model 3 SR is the MOST Efficient car you can buy WORLDWIDE. 140 mpg.
and it comes Standard with 240 kw DC fast charging, all Tesla can charge @ 1000 mph.
TESLA in 2023 has Better build Quality than all the LEGACY OEMs .
@@markplott4820 Almost every thing you said is true. The Chevy Bolt is indeed inferior to the Tesla Model 3 in every way including the charging network. The Model 3 is a sporty compact sedan and the Chevy Bolt is a crappy little hatchback. When the base price for the Bolt was $37,500 and the Model 3 was selling for about $39,900, it was a without a doubt a better deal. However, now that the Model 3 starts at $43,990 and the Chevy Bolt starts at $27,495. The Chevy Bolt is a good deal IMO.

Very good review. I have no idea why Chevy handicapped this car by only giving it 50-55kW charging speeds. If it had

* Heat pump
it would be a winner.
It would also be $45,000. Got ours last week, after rebates and incentives for just under $23,000. For our purposes, it is a winner.

Hey you're in my neck of the woods!
Bolt is better for smart people, but works for most. Good point, the lights do look like the eyes of a robot.
Leaving my original comment below but I've since found out it's wrong. The Bolts are difficult to come by but not impossible and can be ordered.
Original, incorrect comment: It's only under $30k for the people who psychically put in orders for it 6 months ago. The 2023 model year is sold out, you can't even order one at a dealer.
Really? Looks to me like you can order one on the website. They also seem to have many in inventory.
@@TheRealLaughingGravy Update: Laughing Gravy is completely correct and I am wrong. I went back to the dealer and looked more closely when he turned the ordering screen to me. The second to last option to select the vehicle was what kind of vehicle and the dealer had it selected to 'Utility Vehicles.' Of course only the Bolt EUV was on that list. Once I asked him to change the category to 'Cars' the Bolt EV was available to order.
Slow road tripping! You probably can't cover 800 miles in a day, but the Bolt is perfect for a 500 mile road trip if you can destination charge overnight when you arrive (or at least fast charge until full before you leave). A road trip where you stop every two hours or so for an hour to recharge, eat, or just see the sights!
my Tesla charges @ 1000 mph , and Tesla model 3 is most Efficient 140 mpg.
Many adults realize a car is transportation more than anything, when the children grow up they'll probably realize it too, other things to spend money on like your own house.
The Chevy bolt advertises a 255 mile range. For long-term battery preservation you’re supposed to run the battery 20% discharge and 80% maximum charge. How much range does it give you
, and how often do you need to recharge the darn thing?
You're right, but that's what you'll do on a daily basis. If you charge it to 100% once in a blue moon, it won't kill the battery. I charge it at 85% and rarely go below 20-25%. However, I don't understand why all makers aren't using LFP yet. BYD is working on a SODIUM based battery.
Every other day, 80% is smart battery maintenance, it's a big battery, it would be expensive, heavy & wasteful to make it any bigger.
Even with this review - The problem right now is CHEVY is not producing these BOLTS for the public dealerships. There are none to be had in the lots, or no allocations to order one, or the few on hand in the lots are marked up way above MSRP.
The sales person said right now CHEVY is making the BOLTS for FLEET services and not for the Public.
I was thinking about getting the CHEVY Bolt EV 2LT, but I am not going to sit and wait months on end to get one, and then will the dealer charges me more for what originally wanted to pay on the contract????
I think the CHEVY Bolts are being phased out to the newer 2024 Equinox. Better batteries and I like the All Wheel Drive if not too expensive option.
So I am waiting for the 2024 Equinox to come out and make my decisions then.
Definitely good idea to wait for the Equinox as it will way more advanced for almost the same money. My local dealer sells 2-4 units a week and I've seen all trims. Base model to top. Not sure what kind of shit is your dealer talking.
Sure, but where can you get one, they're nowhere available.
That's the curse of a vehicle that's actually wanted, I got one end of July, Southern California, got by some of the dealer BS
I charge at home so charging time is fine. 0-60 is fine as I've used up traffic school so my next ticket is higher insurance. The 7500 rebate makes it for me as I can't believe they are selling it for so low. I drive alone to work so this car is perfect---just need to follow your vids to see if anything pops up. Let me know how the road noise is at 70 mph
BOLT is sold @ a loss, its UNPROFITABLE.
I'd say 70mph noise is fairly low, somewhere between BMW i3 and Fiat 500e.
@@markplott4820AKA a great deal
Any wishes for the DCFC rate going up won’t ever happen! This technology was fast when this was developed in the 2010’s but we won’t see any upgrades until this is replaced by a newer generation Ultium EV.
That car is called Equinox EV. But, the BOLT does make sense for the majority of needs. It was designed as a commuter car anyway.
It's not really a "tax credit." It's a 7500.00 tax write off, if you owe that much in taxes, which most don't. In other words, if you owe 3500.00 in taxes, that's all you can write off. You lose the rest of the credit, or 4000K. Everything else you point out is 100% on target. We just bought a new 23 LT2. It's pretty nice, really, and I'm not an American car guy. The Bose system is really nice, if you want a good system. We hardly ever use the brakes. They pads will probably last as long as the car. It also feels like a LOT larger car inside. As far as charging goes, we use a 120V charger and we never have a problem. We drive under 40 miles a day. As far as "basic" goes, ours has everything even expensive TESLAs have, except auto driving, such as side parking cameras, full front, side, rear and top down 360 degree camera positions, auto reverse braking, auto full stop front collision braking, and as Callas reports, it's as fast as the last American car I owned, which was a 1989 5.0, 5 - speed Ford Mustang (0-60 and 1/4 mile).
I wish I was paying less than $8,000 in tax
Listen carefully, she said UP to 7500 and only IF you are eligible ( UP to 7500).
You're one of the best car reviewers and it doesn't hurt that you're cute. Did you say 6.5 0-60 wasn't that fast? It's pretty darn fast for a 27k EV. Now if it was a 50k EV it wouldn't be fast. You're right on about the 50kw fast charger, definitely the weak link in the Bolt. 150k is becoming the standard. If the Bolt was RWD it would be just about perfect. BTW I see Volvo is switching to RWD in their EVs, great move. I wish everyone would follow.
This is a great option for a city car. I see this as a second vehicle for those who can charge at home.
better off with a Wuling mini ($4000) or a Chang-Li ($2000).
As long we dont weast ur money on a Tesla, everything is fine!
200 mi round trip in city?
So, with fast charging, I would lose an hour's salary sitting at a charger. This would reduce a $30 cost savings vs gas to just $10 or less
This means that this is not the right car for you. That's why there are hundreds of car models out there.
you don't get a lunch break?
Make sure it doesn't catch fire
Make sure that Tesla and Hyundai Kona doesn't catch fire too.
Gas cars more likely to catch fire
remember when the Bolt's batteries caught fire and GM abandoned the owners? Why would anyone buy from GM?
Abandoned? They recalled all of them and all that own earlier models got a battery upgrade.
Why do people constantly block out a vehicles plate number? Everyone can see the plate number when you're driving around.
Wondering how much money they lose on each and everyone of these just to stay in the EV game 🤣
Most of them don't make much per unit. Highly doubt Tesla is an exception. God knows what kind of deal they got from Sleepy Joe and Gavin Newsom. Someone is playing with numbers.
They should make this car bigger. For the price.
Smaller
Fast charger can be an exasperating thing. You may be someone who can almost always charge at home, and rarely have a speed issue. But rarely is not the same as never. And when you want to charge fast, you may REALLY want it. No panacea.
