This is the Worst Bard Subclass (so I fixed it)

- Bards are one of the most iconic DnD classes in... well all of D&D, but not all bard subclasses are made the same. Some call this subclass the best, and many call it the worst. Why? Can we fix that?

Liar liar pants on fire committee reporting for duty 😐 (I refuse to roll intimidation its deception or nothing for me)
That title is a lie lmao
This isnt the wizard video, this is Cheapy the Cheapstake!!!
What do you mean? this is a wizard video.
Wiiizard?
If this is a series, I have 2 requests if u take them. Hexblade Warlock and if u do UA Raven Queen.
Ah yes, my favorite bard, the wizard
wizardeez nuts
😂
Bro I laughed way harder than this probably deserved 😂😂😂
@@hypn05deep75viscous mockery
Lol
My favorite Bard Subclass? Well actually it's The College of Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss
It's literally that and I'm so obsessed
Gaslighting ❤
"Working Title" unironically is a good title for this type of fixing.
Maybe call it "Reworking Title"
"And now it's time to give this Title, a Rework"
I like that! Working Title: Whisper Bard Edition.
"There I fixed it."
Mr human familiar! Please keep making this and added to your arsenal!
"The problem with Wizards in dnd"
The *Bard* is my favorite class-
If it's about only subclass, a suggestion for the title would be:
"Recasting the Class"
Reclassting
Class Recaste could also work, especially since its a double entendre now
Recasting the Class is a great name!
😆IMO, "flunked the class" fits better with subclasses that are bad enough to warrant a video.
genius
So early this time it’s still named “The Problem with Wizards”
@@TheRealNaplalt I was that early, too. Tbh, I thought it was a joke about gaslighting, given the whole College of Lies thing.
Idea for a name for the new series:
Class Flipper! It makes me think of those realtor tv shows where you take a bad house and then fix them up and make them better!
i really like this one
@@SabrinaEvenstarthank you!
Series names ideas:
Class act
Class war
Revisit the class-ics
The classholes
Class Act is SUPER on brand for Pointy Hat
Next episode, "more like transmutation whizzer"
Revist the Class-ics is a really good title
These are good ones lol 😂
"Class war" is what the Reds did to the Whites during the Russian Revolution
WAIT 2024 bard lost rapiers?! That was like THE iconic bard weapon!
Right???
Don’t worry, College of Swords keeps it.
@@Fey_Yoshida College of swords isn't in the new book. The only proficiency that isn't to the base class swords gets is the scimitar and medium armor.
Valor bard gets all martial weapons, but all bards should get rapiers, they're iconic for bards.
They could fix it by just using the same wording as the Rogue: "Simple weapons and martial weapons with the Finesse or Light properties". Boom, we get rapiers back
@@apuapua True, this would also be a decent throwback to the fact that the bard started as a rogue specialization

I love the wizard Subclass: college of wizard bard
0:25 Name suggestion: D&D With a Twist.
I mean... Like you say at the beginning of D&D With a Twist episodes, "Could be a race, could be a class, or something for the DM like a monster..."
Since you finished the classes, this would just be a natural continuation of it, right?
The other naming idea I have is "Subclass Surgery," since you're 'operating' on a subclass that fails to live up to it's own expectations?
Corporate needs you to tell the difference between these two pictures...
That's what came to mind. It's just D&D With A Twist! I love D&D With A Twist!
I agree D&D with a Twist fits, but I like Subclass Surgery. I'm eagerly awaiting the Drag Queen/Surgery crossover in the video clips!!!
D&D With An Extra Twist.
I have only played one bard, it was a whisper. Tiefling Bard, was the last one standing, hid after the last party member was captured and having killed an enemy, wore the shadow to free the party and bragged about it. One of my favourite characters I've played.
Speaking of Venn diagrams: you post a video, I watch it, I like it, I comment. 100% overlap, turns out. Stuff you like = good, in my book. Keep it up, I don't know how you do it. Thanks!
Here before the title change. God i love performative wizards as a whole class
Same
OKAY BUT
I love this. Please continue this series.
One of the things that upsets me the most about dnd is when I see a really cool subclass with fun flavor... but it sucks. You will be way worse off picking that subclass than any other:
Beserker barbarian, wild fire druid, and four elements monk are my nominations for this series.
I also think way of Shadows Monk needs a facelift. If a monk-rogue multiclass makes for a 10x better ninja, why did they make the subclass.
The biggest gripe is that the flavor of the class doesn’t feel like it fully kicks in until the second or third ability (at levels people rarely reach).
For a title of this series, I think it should be called "DnD with a Fix!"
A bard that lies so well they can fake a spell is such a perfect concept.
Please keep this series up.
Also, do the oath of the crown next PLEASE
Honestly a very thorough and detailed breakthrough of all the issues with the wizard class. Kudos to you mister Hat for such an amazing rework to this core class, can't wait to try it out.
If I may give one point of critique though, I feel this might step on the toes of the Bard College of Whispers subclass.
Well at least we know that we can expect a Wizard video at some point soon
Ran a Bards as spies RP guild in ESO for years, was good times except when you ran into people who couldn't seem to fathom the concept that bards don't need to be exclusively horny comic relief characters. Or people who couldn't process the concept that a character might lie, or use deception to achieve an objective. Them: "Wait why are you trying to stop my vampire assassin, you just told me you were tending bar and now it turns out you had a crossbow trained on me under the counter! Quit god-modding!" Me: "Dude the DM for the event literally invited my entire guild to work the party as body guards and watch out for vampires... then you approached like six members of our team offering to bite them and turn them into a vampire if they'd join you in the back room, we even had our characters openly using hand signals and note dead drops to pass info in plain sight of the bar... we weren't subtle about it!"
Title: Master(sub)Class
Catchphrase: let's class this up!
This! This one I like for a name!
The level 6 feature probably should be “every time you spend a spell slot” instead of a leveled spell, because for examble a 2 lvl dip in warlock gives you mask of many faces (infinite lvl 1 disguise self). Another coffeelock waiting to happen
Edit: forgot to say, the subclass is sick as hell, buen trabajo tio
Oh good point, multiclassing is something i never design for
@@pointyhatstudios Also like, duregar getting enlarge at will
Initially I played my Littlefinger (*but gay*) inspired bard as a whispers bard, but ended up remaking him as an eloquence bard + soul knife rogue and it's such a better combo. He still can deal psychic damage and can come off as unnervingly charming, which for me is what a basically Littlefinger character needs to be able to do.
2:10 Bard. James Bard.
lol
Purple Dragon Knight/Banneret Fighter is a subclass I'd like to see reworked. Flavor wise they are cool, I always wanted to play a non-caster martial with Charisma sprinkled in
You could call this series "Subclass Face-lift"
Ha, it's the college of lies, so he put wizards in the title. Very clever
Oh this series looks fun. Thank you for the improved college of lies.
Maybe later down the line, you'll play with the rogue's inquisitive and mastermind subclasses? Those are other subclasses that have fantastic flavor but are considered weak.
Also, something you could potentially explore. I've wondered what it would be like if you could multi-subclass, take on two subclasses on one character. For instance, for a rogue, you could do an arcane trickster-swashbuckler. Or a fighter could be both a tactician and a champion, which honestly would make the best Captain America build.
3:42 whisper bards luring me into an ad read
You really have the best sponsors, every time they come on screen I have to look them up because they look so cool! And with that I come back to an amazing video EVERY-TIME. Thank you so much for always being a fun point in my day
Happy belated birthday Antonio! Thank you for working hard on all of these videos.
Love love love your work pointy hat ❤
You could maybe call this series “Sub-stitute Class” and maybe have like a teacher, scholar aesthetic to it. If it’s going to continue ideas to redo:
Way of Four Elements Monk
Necromancer Wizard
A Lunar Druid (like actually evoking the Moon)
I assume this is the Bard episode, not Wizard, lol. Or, a specific subclass of one
I think this is a pretty neat series, and one I would definitely enjoy seeing more of! Also, I like the art style you use for the videos with those cute character designs.
Idea for this type of video "Class Credit"
I really hope this becomes a permanent series!! Druid is my favourite class and circle of dreams is in dire need of an overhaul - and I couldn’t think of anyone better to tackle the whimsical, esoteric, and fae theming of the subclass.
Gaslight, Gatekeep, Glamboss: The subclass.
Love it!
Man, I rocked a Whisper Bard Undead warlock for a spy campaign, and let me tell you the utility combination with horror elements had it become my favorite character I’ve ever built.
Stage name Bart B Bardimus of course
I love the idea of both the Peace Domain Cleric and Oath of Redemption Paladin. Especially the Paladin Subclass where in order to follow the Oath, you have to *avoid* killing enemies.
Either a video on the Oath of Redemption or a "Tip of the Hat" on how to play a Pacifist would do. Since that kind of playstyle genuinely sounds interesting for this kind of Game.
Like the series idea! Suggestions:
- Battle Rager Barbarian
- Purple Dragon Knight
- Storm Sorcerer
- Alchemist Artificer
- Way of the Long Death Monk
- Horizon Walker Ranger
- The Undying Warlock
Oh! Maybe this series could be called "Class Respec".
I really hope this becomes a new series because I would LOVE a subclass series.
3:24 "but youve seen the title of this video" I have, and it doesn't help
Lord Pointy Hat, i'm a fan of yours, and would like to show you my own take on the bard class: Performancer:
A magician who uses their own imagination as their source of magic, casting spells through their art. They channel magic through the harmony within their performances, projecting it at the pinnacle of their flow, transforming any scenario in their stage.
I’ve actually been playing a whisper bard in an ongoing Waterdeep campaign (from Dragon Heist to Mad Mage) and while it can be a bit difficult to use, I love using it because I have to get creative with it. This group of enemies are from the next dungeon level we don’t know about: steal their shadow and get a better idea about what’s on the next level. Someone is about to do something stupid and is being too stubborn: magically blackmail them into not doing that exceptionally stupid thing.
A few years ago i remember making a Phantom Thief subclass for the bard because of my dissatisfaction with whisper's bard, I should definitely come back to fix it and bring it to the Tasha standard, but but yours really comes close to hitting the spot!
You could do a whole fixing bad subclasses series
seeing as I've watched literally all your videos, seeing a new upload is amazing
Pointyhat: College of whispers bard is the only subclass with selfish inspiration.
College of swords: Excuse me WHAT!
(Context: Their bardic inspiration choices act similar to that one fighter ability that has its own feat, martial versatility. sure, some of the options give debuffs, but still.)
You have such an amazing knack for creativity and its super inspiring. I’d love to see you come up with more. Namely. I’d love to see you make a sorceror subclass for that Heirarch Lich. Like. What is it like to be a PC who is “part of the family”
@pointyhatstudios You need to make a correction on the 14th Level: Liarbird feature. Currently it says "This insight check is not made at disadvantage as per your “Razor Tongue” ability." You need to remove the word "not".
Pointy Hat: "I don't know how to name this series of videos"
Also pointy hat: "I'll take a stab at everything 🗡"
8:09 My songs know what you did in the dark ...
You are my favourite youtuber. Not only from dnd-youtube community but from all youtube. I find all your videos very interesting and u give me a bunch of inspirational energy to roleplay and worldbuild. I would LOVE see your approach on the concept of mixin Hags and Dragons (maybe some dragons united in a coven?)
Whisper Bard: Charismatic spies that use infiltration and espionage to take their targets down in plain sight
Pointy Hats POV: Asmr
The best part of Words of Terror is that you have an excuse to be the funniest distraction in the world. "Hey, rouge, go steal that thing while I talk to the guard. I need to tell him about my recent hyperfixations..."
0:58 store bought *is* just fine, so long as we're talking miniatures and hormones, thank you very much.

I absolutely love these new and inventive takes on everything dnd
PLEASE MAKE MORE 🙏🙏🙏
POINTY YOU COMMITED A TYPO 😭😭😭😭
Yes please! Definitely keep this series.
19:11 you mean… gaslighting?
This was such a fun video! I hope this becomes a series in the future cause I really love it!
Title and thumbnail is wizards, video is about bards...
did dude just made a whole series build on Undying--->Undead warlock principal? I love it!
Hold on a damn minute
I love to watch your videos. I love to listen to them for inspiration, and are just a lot of fun to watch
The problem with wizards... they aren't bards?
Refitting (with) the hat!! I would love this series. Can’t wait for Ranger 👀
Bro clickbaited me
Shug, you don't have to explain anything to us. We're happy to watch and learn! I'm playing a Rogue Soulknife/Whisper bard for the first time (for both classes) and I kinda like them. 😊
Random thing to say but I think your voice is perfect for a nerd live tv show host
As a french, I wanted to compliment you on your perfect french accent (because i suppose you're british or australian or from new zealand) it's really impressive. About the video... very cool video, will definitely use the subclass, thanks for your content !
I am so confused
I think it’s a joke on Whisper’s whole thing of pretending to be something else.
already love the series and I always love your content
Is wizards an Instrument?
Thoroughly enjoyable as usual but roughly 37.4% funnier and more useful. New & Improved Pointy Hat!
is this video purposely in disguise
this is class👏👏!!! hope we see more of your monster and class ideas man.
You’re always so great at the clips but Jeremy fragrance really really killed me this morning 😭
"The only bard subclass to get a selfish use of inspiration"
Swords Bards: Am I a joke to you?
I've been keeping this wizard vid notif all day so I can make sure to watch it, sure hope it wasn't a mistype : )
This was fun! And J really like the notion of doing a continued series of reworked subclasses!
Playing around with subclasses is neat! And turning college of whispers into more manipulation and subterfuge instead of infiltration/assassination is such a fun idea
I love the concept for this video. I really hope you make one for The Purple Dragon Knight
This is super cool! I was a little sad not to see a fully illustrated version of the subclass at the end, but I know you have a lot to do
Love this idea, keep doing what you're doing! Great job!
Hello I am Antonio Domico and what I do is take a thing, any kind of thing, it can be a class, race, subject, person or place just so long as it's some....'thing' and I explain why it was bad...or somewhat good...when it came out and then I cut it into little pieces like a puzzle, add some cool things that SHOULDVE been there all along, throw out the garbage that needs to go, an reassemble into a brand new "thing" that's the same....only way better!! And all for %100 pointy hat guarantee free! For all to use! Lol I love your channel, you do great work! Especially the way you come up with Stat sheets and playable scenarios, so cool!
I know I’m late, but please continue this series!
Love the idea and would definitely love an entire series giving some love to some of the more... useless subclasses (My vote on a rogue subclass, maybe inquisitive or mastermind next)
i actually built a whisper bard/swashbuckler rogue multiclass just a few weeks ago (which was my first time trying to design something myself after trying out builds i'd found online or playing a bunch of optimized builds on bg3) and it feels like i did a good job making something both fun and hard hitting. so seeing a video on the subclass i built the whole thing around makes me really happy
Love the new subclass, it was super interesting and sounds like a lot of fun. I think you did a great job keeping the flavor but upping the utility.
For a subclass idea without an original staring point, I would LOVE to hear about the Magical steed subclass for Paladin
Cool subclass, sounds like a great way to make whispers fit itself. Do more videos like this if you enjoy it!
Great content, I like this new format! 🙂
I also find it interesting that the lore is meant to give an idea that they attempt to imitate other bard subclasses around other bards and yet none of their abilities even moderately give that vibe
love this concept. Always thought the whole "guy who whispers poison in the kings ear" type of character hasnt been explored enough and this would be a good way to use it.
Seeing older versions’ subclasses or prestige classes in expansion books would be amazing!
Interesting approach. I took a different route with mine, balancing the other features for combat as you noted.
For 3rd level I swapped which feature used the Bardic Inspiration. So Psychic Blades is now more like the Rogues Sneak Attack but the target needs to be under the effect of...
Words of Terror, which stays the same for its free, one minute use out of combat but can also be used as a Bonus Action if a Bardic Inspiration is expended. This is the party help buff as Frightened will help everyone.
Mantle of Whispers again stays relatively the same but the hour long use only requires the creature to be incapacitated/unconscious. If you kill the creature, you can permanently take their shadow and have a number of them saved equal to your CHA bonus (dismiss any as no action) The combat use is you can dismiss one shadow permanently to target a creature and force a WIS save. Failing will make them believe you are a close loved one under enchantment and have disadvantage on attacks against you for 1 minute.
