Altit Fort Hunza Part-1 (A detailed tour by Tour Guide)

Altit Fort Hunza according to the verbal history is almost 900 years old. The Altit Fort is present at almost 3 kilometers away from Karimabad on the bank of the Hunza River. Karimabad is the capital of Hunza valley. The word Altit means the lower side. Like other Forts in Gilgit Baltistan, this is also made of strong stones and wood. Below it, the Hunza river looks like bowing in front of Fort. Seeing its construction we can imagine how hard-working people they were. The Altit Fort has a magnificent view over the Hunza valley.
The kitchen along with the conference hall has the old cure cooking drum and warehouse. The warehouse for wheat and other commodities are also present in a single room. It is said about this room that the Mir of Hunza discusses issues of people. The doors are small in size. The logic behind the small door is for protection. If an enemy attacks the Valley and Fort they could not enter at once in a group. This way they can restrict them from entering the Fort.
The structure of Fort is very flexible. The Fort can resist earthquake shocks of up to 8.5 Richter scale. We can say up to some extent this Fort is earthquake resistant. The Architecture of Hunza is really so rich.
Another small room about which it is said was for protection in the wars. The Royal family use that room during wars. That room is also called a protective room.
Triple story watchtower on the top of the roof. The force tower was used for security purposes. The security guards from the top of the tower surveillance or monitor the valley. Likewise, the whole Altit Village can be seen from the watchtower. The store for dry fruits is on the back of the tower. Along with the store, the execution point for the prisoners is also on the backside. This execution point is at a height of about 1000 meters from the Hunza river. Some other rooms were also constructed by Britain during their rule.
