Well done Joey. This drill/technique of the "off" or "opposite" hand is so important when maximizing lateral reach.

Hey Joey, when you have the leading hand out or while holding a weight, why does that hand not go in the water after the lunge?

Truly only for the sake of the drill emphasizing the opposite hand's usage and legs. Of course there would be a slap on the surface of the water for recovery at the end of a regular lunge, but if I'm forced to keep that hand dry I automatically have to "bring my legs with me" to land on while also getting a good recovery PULL after the PUSH. In some variations of this set however I do still have athletes doing the slaps, then back to starting dry.
