    brings back great memories for me even though I'm a Villa fan, I secretly (!) admired Bully and I think my brother did too, who I used to regularly go down the Villa with, Bully was a man who gave his all every game, shame there's so few around like him now, too much money in the game nowadays

    Wonderful man, self-effacing, honest, no-nonsense genius. How on earth he never played in the White Shirt more often will remain a mystery forever. Perhaps it's because he did his talking on the park...

    you dont often see loyalty like steve had these days, couldve played for anyone he wanted too and he stayed loyal to the club he loved most.

    I feel lucky that I watched a LOT of his goals live at the Molineux... hands down best striker I've ever seen play. When you want a definition of a forward who has an eye for goal - then Bull is the best example. Nothing flash except the goal scoring record. ... I only cursed him once from the terraces. I had a fiver on the first scorer and Wolves to win 3 nil. Late in the game and I was all set for nearly 1k of winnings - but Bully did what he did best... 4-0 and I am 1k out of pocket lol.

    Its hard to find forwards that work so efficiently off long balls these days, its not pretty, its not fancy, but bully smacked them in. He didn't ask for first class service or fancy passing like most modern forwards, he just wanted the ball hit towards him so he could work his magic. Class player, deserved more England caps

    It was a pleasure growing up watching Bully as a school kid even if it 'was' a dump of a ground.
    Watching him bang them in against the Tesco wank bags brings a smile to my face.
    Bosha!

    Everyone focuses so much on the international legends, and everyone forgets just how good Bull really was. He was clinical on the pitch, and should be up there with the greats whenever someone talks about football. He was that good, and then some.

    As a fellow Lost City lad and Wolves fan, who knew Stevie and his family when growing up, he did us proud, he also deserved more England caps, no defence could cope with him, a good old fashioned centre forward, which football lacks today.

  • @SteveBarratt1

    306 goals for Wolves, 4 for England despite only 13 caps, mostly as a substitute. Hardly any from tap in's, free kicks or penalties, the vast majority scored from open play. He scored 156 goals in just 4 seasons! Legend.

    I'll never forget that late winner against Small Heath. The blues fans gave Bully absolute dog's abuse all game with the usual bull$h1f bull$h1f chant. After Thommo scored the pen and Bully hit that great winner he rubbed their blue noses in it the whole length of the John Ireland. Molineux exploded. Great days.

    Ooh Stevie Bull the Tatter, he wears an England cap. He plays for Wolverhampton... And he's a lovely chap! Scores with his left foot, scores with his right... And when he plays the Albion, he'll score all fucking night
    From a 12 year old Wolves fan I say FUCKING come on you Wolves.
    I don't know this song very good so sorry if I fucked the words up.

    Every young English player involved in the top flight academies today should be made to watch daily footage of the mighty SB as well as the likes of Bryan Robson, Stuart Pearce, Terry Butcher, Alan Shearer, Steven Gerard and Tony Adams to pick out just a few of the names who have graced our leagues and national side over the years. Not so much for their technical ability but for how they have carried themselves in the service of their clubs and their Country. All super tough, "no excuses" competitors but also decent lads who came from ordinary backgrounds and who would run through brick walls for the cause and the fans. Bully absolutely characterizes that spirit and endeavour even if he did not achieve the levels of success in the game that the other names mentioned achieved on the pitch. Nearest thing to him in the modern game might be Rickie Lambert who must pinch himself every morning to check whether he is dreaming. Freddie Flintoff and Stuart Broad examples of same psyche in cricket. All legends!

      Stuart Broad you say?!

    • @cagedtigeruk
      @cagedtigeruk 9 лет назад

      @rodders Broady is straight off "Made in Chelsea" isn't he lol so get your point. But he does get proper stuck into the opposition and gives 100% every time + he takes the hits without rolling around like he's been taken out by a sniper every time someone breathes on him from too close. Just as well because he is not going to scare anyone anytime soon with his posh accent!

    Classic English centre forwards..Strong, good pace, cannon power in both feet and good in the air aswell as good position sense and full of running....I should know, I defended against them for 15 years lol. Steve Bull was super at a time when scoring 20 goals a season took some doing

  • @wierdwesterner

    LOL fair enough. We deserved to be relegated this season. I still think Hodgson will be England Head Coach before the start of next season. Everyone thinks Hedknapp will take it up, but I think he likes being able to sign players and have more control over the technical elements of a football club more and will get an improved salary out of Daniel Levy because the FA are interested.
    The unfortunate thing for you lot is that Hodgson is doing the exact same job for WBA as he would be for England.

    Would of scored goals at any level. Granted no where near the amount if in premier league but would still score plenty. He should of gone villa in 92 and theyd of won the first prem league. The gulf between prem and div 1 was not that big then either.

  • @wierdwesterner
    @wierdwesterner 12 лет назад

    I think you need to move on, at least you are in a strong position to recruit a manager for next season. Your last two managers have been a cut above anyone Wolves have had in my living memory.
    I'd much rather be in your position than ours. I just hope there's someone decent left for us after you and Villa have hired new managers. If we keep Connor we are going to be fighting relegation again.
    I'm not a fan of the FA but, despite the press' opinion, they have gone for the best man for the job.

  • @richardhann52
