People who bought digital WB movies are out of luck. Their movies are going away and they aren't getting a refund.
One of the reasons to have physical media is that sometimes that's the only way to watch some things, especially older titles. Some of them are owned by rights holders that just don't seem to want to mess with streaming or digital sales. Or there is some licensing issue (usually music) that prevents a digital/streaming release. So you have to track down an old physical copy to watch it.
What I like about VCRs, DVD players etc.: They are really easy to open. (I still buy physical stuff. Streaming services are too unreliable with their stupid licence agreements that seem to expire exactly two days before you come around to watch stuff.)
yep, physical media ftw. i still buy blu rays and music cds as well as some old stuff used on dvd sometimes. and of course i still have all the old dvds, why would i throw them away?
I am in that middle road. I source a DVD or whatever then make a backup file of it and store it to a HDD. A friend also use to have a public server where he also hosted his backups, you could stream it from him. Granted if you are close by to his location otherwise the buffering would be crazy. We stopped watching movies so no clue if he still have this, I didn't logged into his server for 2 years or so ... With my method I watch my own cuts and versions that I know and want to watch. Hate those edits and whatnots where they cut or change too many things and there are no other version available to stream just one botched version or even a movie being unavailable etc. So I like physical but also like to have digital backups of the same things ... Even tho I don't watch them anymore I still like the feeling of knowing that I have the options available when I will decide to watch something. Same thing with games, soon as I lost control of things I buy, I stopped buying games. Plug n play or GTFO
Having data on physical disks and tapes that you keep in your house is just too painfully silly to countenance. I'd much rather just never consume media.

Don't you normally look at ESR when checking capacitors for faults? It's normal for them to have a capacitance higher or lower than what is marked on them, they are usually made with a 20% tolerance.
Yeah, I need to get more familiar with ESR readings to know when something's out. Thankfully it was fairly obvious by the blown nature of a few of these, so that helped me out! 👍
