Robert Stephens Sings "The Little Finch"

In character as Atahuallpa, Robert Stephens sings "The Little Finch". This song was featured in the original production of THE ROYAL HUNT OF THE SUN for the National Theatre in 1964.

His performance in Royal Hunt Of The Sun was supposed to have been incredible. I wish there was footage of the whole performance.

Even the Theatre World issue featuring it is hard to find online. I got one on Ebay years ago, thank goodness.

I saw it as a teenager. It affected me hugely. I had the misfortune to see a later version at the Festival Hall, with a black actor playing the part of Atahualpa. It didn’t do it for me. It was more to do with the acting, than the colour of the actor, though it did seem a daft idea.
