Anyone for Denis?

Anyone for Denis? is a British video-taped television version of the stage play of the same name broadcast by the ITV network on 28 December 1982. The original play, first performed at the Whitehall Theatre in 1981, was written by satirist John Wells. It is based on Private Eye's 'Dear Bill' letters, purportedly written by Denis Thatcher, the husband of Margaret Thatcher, British Prime Minister...

Amazing Treat, stumbled upon this gem. Actors fantastic, Angela Thorne a marvel as the late Prime Minister. Thank you, truly.
I was privileged to experience Robert Stephens's King Lear and His wonderful Falstaff. He had us captured, clinging to every moment. By the end, we were all on our feet in tears applauding. It was one of the greatest RSC performances. One which I'll never forget.
This is amazing! What a treat.
1:08 If it isn't the terrifying Mrs Richards from Fawlty Towers - superb actress! 📺😂👍
Song at 15:00??
Wind in the music Dorinda!
I think the actual footage of the troop is 1957 when the Irish guards trooped as this was the first time that the Queen rode ‘Imperial’ ..3bb GG trooped in 1956. The troop was a bit arse about face… Cavalry don’t ride past until after the Foot Guards and the Colour isn’t trooped near the end! A shame as some of the attention to detail was pretty good, especially for us ex Grenadiers the use of ‘Sarn’t ‘ and hipes instead of arms!
"Sauron..... sauron... Hear me sauron, it is I Aragorn, lord of the west, no halfing or elf that you can bend to your will"
The Greatest English Speaking voice there ever was. Compare the natural rounded non regional specific profundity of Robert Stephens voice to for instance the insipid voice of Brian Sewell!! For anyone who wishes to speak and to be heard, Robert Stephens is surely the benchmark.
Terrific ensemble cast, particularly the actress portraying the Admiral - she was the particularly deaf and demanding guest in a Fawlty Towers episode ("Communication Problems") 😂😂😂
Do you have any more videos of this RSC Production of King Lear ?
Love this scene , beautifully acted by Sir Robert !
One of my favourite classical actors , absolute legend!
Legendary actor 👏
Look at those real rifles!
..was expecting to see Bob Grant in this ...very disappointed ...Bobs version was absolutely masterly . . .. . . !!!!!!
Thank you for uploading this - many decades since I last watched it, after repeat viewings way back in the day, but I can still remember so much of the script! 😁
You'd have a jolly hard job convincing me that Maurice was not (at least in part) the inspiration for Paul Whitehouse's character Rowly Birkin QC.
I am 68 i was in the property business all my life in the late 70's my firm was marketing this building here and it really was a white elephant.
What was the one where they ended up on a desert island? Your starter for ten?
I guess the “tribute” is for the musicians….if I wanted to try to hear what RS was saying by increasing the volume, the music would’ve blown holes in my eardrums.
The grenadier guards trooped their colour 💂🇬🇧
I saw it as a teenager. It affected me hugely. I had the misfortune to see a later version at the Festival Hall, with a black actor playing the part of Atahualpa. It didn’t do it for me. It was more to do with the acting, than the colour of the actor, though it did seem a daft idea.
I always loved Denis Thatcher. Never did BS
SPIED SEVERAL MEN AND WOMAN Spiderman? Nemesis.
Thanks for posting this up. Really novel film from Poliakoff. Great cast as well.
Hahahaha that was amazing! Spot on acting. This could easily have been a comedy tv series
..better with Bob Grant in ..a total master ... .!
Very interesting on the wall documentary
Excellent film
He has an incredible voice and expression !
Sublime!
Wunderbar! Wunderbar!
Wunderbar!
Parts of this was filmed at my old BT office block - Worley House in Wood Green, London N22, now called River Park House.
Much scenery chewing happening here.
The Portrayal of me and my wife Maggie is well done. Got to show this to the Boss
Auf Wiedersehen
08:56 It's Alfred Molina young!!!! Oh Gosh!
I miss Radio 4\Home Service plays that lasted 90mins. You got a film feel to it. No longer you get this on Radio 4. Why?
I'm ex army 60s 70s & will enjoy this & I can't help myself picking out faults in Army etiquette & rules & regs ie saluting without a beret\cap on (you don't but stand\sit stiffly to attention. Ok Staaaaand at Ease!
Yes, notice this too - detail not difficult to get right, as it's jolly basic stuff...
@@petehall889 this looked a good Troop. Colour. Sadly this past 20yrs Troop. Colour is not good, loads of squiggly wiggly lines. Why the RSM thinks this is ok I don't know but it has gone to the dogs somewhat. North Korea & China massive blocks & utterly perfect. RSM BRITTAIN where are you!
@@seltaeb3302 I agree. I remember the film 'They Were Not Divided' (it's on RUclips). RSM Brittain represents better times "Never seen anything like it in me life!"
And these people should have known as lots of them were in the war or at least conscripted at that time.
@@seltaeb3302. N Korea and China March in very close order which makes it easier. But I do agree with you about the wiggly lines. Even in the Royal Engineers we would have been going around all day if we looked like that. I forgot that the Chinese and Korea have handy lines painted on the ground every few paces.
Angela Thorne resemblance it's uncanny!
She and Janet Brown more or less had the Thatcher impersonation market to themselves!
Angela played Audrey's companion Marjory in To the Manor Born. Excellent.
Awesome upload👍💞
Thx so much for uploading this. I remember watching this Christmas 1982. I wish this was an 8 part series!
I played Boris in the National Tour of this. Delightful to see it again. I asked John Wells what the Russian meant. Said he hadn't a clue. lol
Bloody brilliant! I haven't laughed so much for... can't remember when. Spasibo!
I saw him at a preview of Royal Hunt of the Sun - nobody knew that the gold disc at the back of the apron stage would open. It was so glorious, with him standing there, gold from head to foot with a cape of white feathers. Visually and emotionally it was one of the greatest productions I ever saw. I still have the cover picture of Atahuallpa which was shown in the tribute video. God bless his memory.
Always a pleasure to watch the great Sir Robert Stephens.
Wonderful voice. Could listen to him all day.
Brillant film. Second time I've watched this. Really love it. Thanks for sharing.
