He would be a God if valiant didn't exist.
I’ve got an ability idea: Accelerator. It boosts the priority of moves with 60 base power or less by one stage. Pokémon that can get the ability include Vikavolt, Octillery, and Magmortar.
Yes, boost Octillery!
Give it to Pachirisu and we can get priority Nuzzle
Sounds balanced on those Pokémon, at least in Singles. I don't know about the impact of priority Electro Web/Icy Wind/Bulldoze (aka speed control) in Doubles (VGC).
PU IS NOT SAFE
Accelerator boosted Bulldoze lowering the opponent's speed to either let a teammate revenge kill them or have the Accelerator mon kill them itself the next turn... 👀
It's kinda funny that this was the one time FSG didn't mention the potent conditionally-fastest priority move in the game: Pursuit. It may've been removed and covered extensively by now, but it's still the grandpappy of heavily influential priority, given it was the only move that could specifically outspeed a switch.
I think what happened here is that they didn’t cover this since the extra priority is only added when a switch happens. The game probably had some kind of flag set to check for a switch when the target is being attacked by Pursuit, and naturally, the flag activates upon this and doubles the move’s BP from 40 to 80.
@@bdt2002gaming Is flag like a programming term or something?
@@skeetermania3202 Flag is a programming term. It's usually a term for when a check is ran to determine a certain effect. In context, one flag is flown when a player chooses their move/action for the turn and, in multiplayer, the turn starts when that flag is tripped by both players, from there the turn plays out given those inputs, such as Pursuit doubling in power if one side uses it while the other switches, or Feint removing the Protect flag that would otherwise prevent all damage.
@@bdt2002gaming while the extra priority is indeed added only while "is_target_switching"==true (making an assumption as to flag names), Pursuit still had +1 priority by default, making it a priority move and objectively the best one with a type matchup at the time.
@@rayhatesu Bruh I’m not even mad that I just got nerded on. If anything I’m impressed 😁

No need for speed if priority succeeds
Unless your opponent is also using priority.
Poor Talonflame
Gale Wings gutted and left to rot
I wonder how Gen 9 should look if Gale Wings retained the same mechanics. On one hand, the fact that Heavy Duty Boots exist now would almost force Talonflame to run them to avoid Rocks. But on the other hand, Choice Band is basically needed to pose any immediate threat with Talonflame's Attack. I guess you could use it as solely a revenge killer for significantly weakened Pokemon with Boots, or you could try to set up with Swords Dance. Great Tusk would be its best friend, and Gholdengo wouldn't want to switch into Defog for fear of getting cooked by Flare Blitz.
gale wings still isnt terrible, and atleast talonflame has good speed

The Cacturne Theorum: Why Evasion is POSSIBLY Everything
Really want a deep look into Smogon's clauses given degenerate battle conditions, and Gen 3 Cacturne is a perfect example of this tomfoolery
Hot take: With almost every mechanic around them having been nerfed by now, and the game itself going in a direction increasingly unfriendly to the offending weathers anyway, evasion boosting abilities need their ban reexamined
And really, I would say most old clauses should be reexamined at some point, as well as anything that has been frequently called for but not actually reasonably examined (*cough cough* Entry Hazards but especially Stealth Rock)
Nah man Smogon right now is too busy banning sleep moves without even asking the community
@@maxmucci3170 Yeah, uh, I don't think Smogon knows what they're doing anymore, and they haven't for a while. Best to completely overhaul the system, ideally with an entirely new council that hasn't been tainted by Smogon's current philosophy
@baxterbruce9827 they're not necessarily banned for being strong, they're banned for being uncompetitive
Another thing is that Priority blocking is one of the most solidly powerful support niches in VGC in recent generations.
Psychic Surge Indeedee and Tapu Lele, Queenly Majesty Tsareena, and now Armor Tail Farigiraf? Heck, Bruxish even has Dazzling, but Bruxish has the problem of its stats just really being *that bad*

Dracovish Thorem: why base power of moves is everything
Tinkaton.
@@skeetermania3202nah, dracovish. It actually got banned because of fisheous rend’s effective base power.
@@ManyTanks1I think his point is that Tinkaton has an absurdly powerful signature move (base 160 power) but it’s definitely not what makes it good in the lower tiers
@@kulla8587what makes it good then
@@mrtrollnator123 It usually likes to play support, encore, stealth rock, knock off, fake out, that stuff. It does still use Gigaton Hammer since it IS a powerful move, but its attack is so low it doesn't really run any other attacks for the purposes of KOing things.
In RBY ZU, Pidgeot will sometimes use Quick Attack to overcome Arbok.
26:18 Custap berry doesn’t give you priority, it only makes you move first in your priority bracket, so a +1 priority move will always outspeed a Custap berry 0 priority move
I know it's a weird one, but you didn't mention Pursuit. It's only when they switch out, but it's the only move that comes before a trainer action, and it even works on most moves that switch the user out
Hitmontop using 4 priority moves is honestly hilarious
I was surprised to not see prankster tailwind set up in this video
False Swipe focuses more on singles so it makes sense, you could make a whole 'nother video on priority in Doubles. As for the combo, prankster is much more impactful in doubles than in singles, and tailwind is almost exclusively used in doubles, similar to the likes of trick room.

The next “almost everything” video could be “why format is almost everything: the Incineroar theorum”. Incineroar is absolutely awful in singles, but is one of the very best Pokémon in VGC. On top of this, it just got helping hand in scarlet and violet, letting it be even more supportive.

While it is only in honourable mentions, Quick Draw/Claw's effect is technically not increased priority. It makes the wielder go first within the move's priority bracket. It is like temporarily treating the base speed as 999.

I'm surprised there was no mention of Upper Hand in Gen 9, a move that specifically is designed to counter other priority moves. Otherwise, absolutely great video!
I feel like a lot of players go through what I call "the fake out epiphany". Back when you play casually or just do the story, fake out is just an annoying move used by computers to delay the inevitable. Once you start caring about competitive Pokemon though, you have that moment where you realize how insanely good fake out is. Being able to deny an opponent their turn and get free damage for it is truly insane in such high stakes battles.
Banded Scizor and SD Breloom were staples for me back in the day, absolutely favourites and powerhouses to sweep. However, a dark horse favourite of mine was also Protean Kecleon with Fake Out/Sucker Punch/Shadow Sneak.

Upper Hand is also a thing with the Indigo Disk, but I haven't heard of any competitive use for it yet. It actually solely exists to priority-creep opposing priority, and fails if the opponent isn't using a priority move. So it would fit the video in that it perfectly epitomizes the priority war.

When ORAS Triples was still a thing on Smogon, one of my favorite teams to use was a Prankster+Assist+Round team, consisting of Liepard and Meowstic (the only two pokemon with Prankster+Assist), and Porygon-Z, Mega Salamence, Sylveon, and Aurorus (they have -ate and adaptability to boost Round).
Despite having effectively 0 coverage due to Assist's move restrictions, this was still winning more games for me than losing, because spamming a base 120 power special priority move coming off of some of the strongest special attackers around is enough to overpower a lot of teams. Sadly, it's actually bugged in-game due to Round chaining inconsistencies, but its still a lot of fun.
My first smogon team had a scizor and talonflame as the physical attackers :p
