When Tim got shocked, some people in the audience gasped. But when the raptor suddenly appeared, the whole theater screamed bloody murder. It was such a terrifying yet intensely visceral experience!
You really had to be an audience member back in 1993 to understand how intense this film was. People don't realize that before this, dinosaurs never looked this realistic on screen. Thats what made this film truly frightening, you believed in the context of the film's premise that dinosaurs existed, and these creatures were real, while watching the film. It's because of the realistic effects, that still hold up today for the most part that has kept this film part of cinema history.
Fun fact: We were supposed to see Ray Arnold’s death on camera but a hurricane ruined the set in Hawaii where they were filming it so unfortunately that scene had to be cut. Ellie was also supposed to trip over his severed leg on the floor which is why she’s limping away from the raptor at the end but that scene was also cut from the film.
Dcstar 20 I remember that. Although to be honest I think that it would have made this entire scene less impactful because we as the audience would know he was dead and know something was lurking in there. Even though it stated the raptors got out, you don't really wonder if they went into the building. You'd assume they went into the park. So when that pops out at her like that and you see the arm it hits you that much harder. So yay hurricane.
I'm kinda glad. That part of the scene was a lot more shocking and impactful when we see his arm pop out and it slowly shows the arm being a separate bloody stump
As for the whole limping thing, I just initially assumed Ellie hurt her leg because she was dragging the flashlight and it caught on something or she tripped in her haste to get away (both possibilities off-camera)
I always thought Ellie hurt her leg when the raptor knocked her to the floor at 2:17 to 2:21 she did fall down fast, which would hurt her. Also she then pushes the gate shut with her feet while the rator is cling to the gate, the weight of him on the gate while she pushes it shut could have caused her to pull a muscle.
Yes! That to me is one of the best parts of this amazing scene. Laura Dern nailed it, like, she really pulled deep for the emotional intensity of it - so afraid that you just bolt, as fast as you can, and you're so scared that you aren't even capable of making sense of the world in that moment (climbing the fence rather than going through the open door right next to it).
First terror: raptor head pops out of wires screaming next to her ear. Then Jumps at her as she barely closes the door Then gets a jump scare from the human arm Then the terror of realizing there's just the arm, forgetting what she's doing Then as she walks back, the raptor says hello again yelling next to her ear again. Poor Ellie 😂
@@samalvey8168 agreed. Getting bloody scratches is nothing when compared to being mauled and eaten by a raptor. Even if they get infected the chances or surviving are much more than injuries sustained by a dinosaur. It just hurts thinking how the Acu soldiers, Hoskins, and Muldoon felt in the last seconds of their lives.
OtterCorp very very briefly. I wouldn't say a shot of an eye counts. But that scene is legitimately scary because you don't see the whole creature you just see it's eye and hear sounds.
that's awesome if you think about it. I never thought about that before. Imagine seeing this movie for the first time and having no idea what a raptor looks like

But somebody from marketing possibly ruined with one of the trailers.
I heard that they didn't tell the actor (Ellie) that the raptor was gonna surprise her to make a more realistic scene. Even if I had known that I'd still be terrified!
They actually did that to the actors in 1979 Alien. The props ended up being more realistic than the actors were told and when the scene happened their shocked expressions are pretty real.
I came here because I just saw an ad for actors studio in which she talks about all of that. She also thought that the hand was really Jackson comforting her, she didn't realize it was a stump.
This sequence was so intense and well done by Spielberg; switching between the two events. He definitely nailed it in that regard. And, a little unsettling, is knowing that this raptor was in there while Ellie was working yet likely left her alone at first because it was busy eating Ray... :-/ :-O

There are so many set pieces in this film and they're all so brilliant! I can't choose a favourite! The original T-Rex attack on the kids in the car, the tree scene with Tim and Allan, the T-Rex chase jeep chase with Malcolm, Muldoon and Ellie, Ellie's raptor scene and Tim's parallel electrocution, the raptor kitchen scene and finally the big showdown with all the leads and the raptors and T-Rex! The final shot inside the building sort of zooms in on the door handle, foreshadowing that the raptor's going to figure out how to open it to get out, and then later use that knowledge to get inside the Visitor's Center. Classic Spielberg.
this scene did not need any CGI to be an epic scene, whereas in the jurassic world they abused the CGI, I hope in the jurassic world 2 they have a scene that only has animatronic
And boy how wrong you were 4 years ago, unfortunately. They even managed to butcher the newest movie with Malcom, Ellie, and Grant back. It's actually almost impressive how badly they butchered the series by just making it all cgi action filler and forgetting to write an actual interesting story.
I REMEMBER IN 1993 I WAS 7 YEARS OLD HERE IN BRAZIL WATCHING THIS AMAZING MOVIE IN THEATER, THAT T REX AND THE RAPTORS KEEP STILL HUNTING MY MIND EVEN AFTER 25 YEARS AGO. HELLO FROM BRAZIL GUYS.👍
If u think about it, this is the first scene in the movie where u can actually see the Velocirators, prevoius scene didn't show or shown only a bit of the dinosaurs face
Quick story: one day, when I was a much younger kid, I was watching tv and I wanted to see something new. I switched on HBO Family, and what they had on was Jurassic Park. This was the first scene I watched. I never saw this movie for nearly 6 years after that because I was SO DAMN SCARED! I'm too scared to watch it today!
Laura Dern is a phenomenal actor. I adored her when I was a kid, and I still adore her to this day! The way she conveyed absolute terror was perfect. But she was also badass, and I think for young girls, this was really important. She was a strong woman who was also feminine, so she had the best of both worlds. Excellent character design, and her excellent acting on top of that made her someone to idolize.
This is the scene that scared the absolute hell out of me when I saw this in theatres with my dad. We had to leave, and I never went back to see what the ending of the movie was until finally it came out on tape.
*Ellie* - Mr. Hammond, I think we're back in business! *Raptor* - Hello there! Ellie screams and panics. *Raptor* - No! Wait! You don't understand! Wait, I...! Ellie screams and opens the gate (Why was it closed in the first place? Ellie had earlier opened the gate without closing it before she turned the power on.) with the Raptor charging towards her. *Raptor* - Wait! Don't go...in there! Ellie bumps against the wall where the severed arm falls on her shoulder. *Ellie* - Oh, Mr. Arnold. (Not going to say it.) Sees the severed arm and begins to panic. *Raptor* - Told you not to go in there! Didn't listen, did you?! Ellie runs from the Raptor as it pursues her. *Raptor* - Please, wait a minute! I need to tell you something! Ellie runs up the stairs and closes the door behind her. *Raptor* - Well...if she won't listen, she'll just have to find out the hard way. Humans.
I think it's important to note that this is the first time we see an adult Raptor in the movie, we spent the entire movie building up to it, we've seen a hulking, terrifying T-rex, a deceptively terrifying Dilo, but now, in a moment that should be hopeful, we finally get introduced to the true monsters of Jurassic Park. When it's tearing through the wall, you can literally see the bloodlust in its eyes, and you realise this is something deadlier and more monstrous than anything else on the island.
Awesome climax where Tim is nearly killed and we finally get to see the raptor right when the power finally returns. A lot of surge of emotions there..
2:47 Spielberg shows the door handle, when comes the kitchen scene you know that the raptor can go out. Chills when surprisingly she appears in the visitor center in the last scene.
The terror on her face when she gets outside, and how she's on the ground nearly crying, it's truly amazing acting.

@@fossilftw but he didnt die in Snakes on the plane
2:27
RIP
Ray Arnold
Wtf was Arnold's arm doing there anyway? Did the raptors stick it there as a snack for later?
AlekWheeler possibly, some animals put their prey up for later
He tried to wedge himself behind the pipes where they couldn’t reach
pipboy344 guess that didn't work
@@ColtComanche i would of liked to see the death of Mr Arnold in JP. Would be intresting
@@eacleversley7868 we were supposed to. However, a hurricane stopped them from being able to go to set to film it, the scene was cut from the film.
The final shot inside the building sort of zooms in on the door handle, foreshadowing that the raptor's going to figure out how to open it to get out, and then later use that knowledge to get inside the Visitor's Center. Classic Spielberg.
"Mr.Hammond I think were back in business"
Velociraptor:"let me introduce myself"
I swear that electric fence scared me more than anything else in the movie...
This scared me as a kid, the fact that the velociraptor was so realistic i was afraid for this lady
the part where the arm fell has been forever engraved in my mind since I watched it as a kid
this scene did not need any CGI to be an epic scene, whereas in the jurassic world they abused the CGI, I hope in the jurassic world 2 they have a scene that only has animatronic
CHICA'S MAGIC RAINBOW BR Yh they get a bunch of animatronics
At least we got an animatronic scene of the trex in the cage!
Yep, they used animatronics for the T-Rex and the Indoraptor.
And boy how wrong you were 4 years ago, unfortunately. They even managed to butcher the newest movie with Malcom, Ellie, and Grant back. It's actually almost impressive how badly they butchered the series by just making it all cgi action filler and forgetting to write an actual interesting story.
IMO this scene alone earned Laura Dern the title of “scream queen”
Anakin cut Mace’s arm so hard it flew through space-time and ended up here in Jurassic Park.
Mr arnold I think we're back in buisness.
SAY WHAT AGAIN. I DARE YOU.
2:26 Not even a velociraptor can destroy totally Samuel L. Jackson, something remains...
Sirdavitian but I guess a shark can
How do you know that’s Samuel Jackson?
Arif Ali the arm?
well...good point
Unlimited power can
We're back in business!
Raptor: hello loyal customer!
Samuel Jackson need return to Jurassic World 2. But he still alive and one arm.
Arnold is dead
arnold is dead samuel said that
I REMEMBER IN 1993 I WAS 7 YEARS OLD HERE IN BRAZIL WATCHING THIS AMAZING MOVIE IN THEATER, THAT T REX AND THE RAPTORS KEEP STILL HUNTING MY MIND EVEN AFTER 25 YEARS AGO. HELLO FROM BRAZIL GUYS.👍
@2:52 that noise she makes as she got out and closed the gate. hahaha!
Ugly cry face laugh XD LOLZ
@Tyrannosaurus Rex Cool 666 both
Well, there it is. The reason why I’m scared of basements and industrial maintenance rooms to this day.
Drag that flash light at 2.41 lol
If u think about it, this is the first scene in the movie where u can actually see the Velocirators, prevoius scene didn't show or shown only a bit of the dinosaurs face
Quick story: one day, when I was a much younger kid, I was watching tv and I wanted to see something new. I switched on HBO Family, and what they had on was Jurassic Park. This was the first scene I watched. I never saw this movie for nearly 6 years after that because I was SO DAMN SCARED! I'm too scared to watch it today!
Dr. Sattler: Mr Hammond I think we're back in business
Raptor: YAAAAS kween good work
Laura Dern is a phenomenal actor.
I don't think Laura Dern was acting at 2:52. I can tell from her reaction.
Daniel Williamson What if it was actually real and they didn't tell her
Apparently she didn’t know
The raptor popping out was the scariest moment I ever experienced in a movie as a kid, and I couldn't wait to experience it again
Arnold. (Not going to say it.)
Sees the severed arm and begins to panic.
Humans.
What was the raptor going to tell her?
@@277imperator Probably that they learned how to open doors.
"WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME IT WAS JUST A STROLL DOWN THE ROAD?"
Awesome climax where Tim is nearly killed and we finally get to see the raptor right when the power finally returns. A lot of surge of emotions there..
2:25...
Ellie: Oh Mr Fury... (Sees it severed).
Ellie's internal thoughts: I mean Mr Arnold.
2:16 that noise of the raptor breaking out is hella creepy
I was 14 when I saw this in theatres and when that raptor came out of nowhere I jumped like 3 feet 😂
Ellie: Mr. Hammond, I think we're back in business!
Raptor: I'm about to end this lady's whole career.
2:06 Back in business? Just beginning of real danger.
Even in death. Mr Arnold always lent a helping hand. He always knew how to grasp the situation, even if the park was a handful.
Yep. Bless Mr Armold.
I've just realized that Samuel L. Jackson is in my three favourite live action franchises.
2:47 Spielberg shows the door handle, when comes the kitchen scene you know that the raptor can go out. Chills when surprisingly she appears in the visitor center in the last scene.
I just found out that Dr. Ian Malcolm acts really weird at 1:02 (like he is up to something).
FMZ101 lol
I love how the entire movie you keep hearing about the raptors but never actually see them until this jump scare
