I've been reading the book and I was surprised to find that he was actually not as bad in the book as he was in the movie. He only intended to shut down the fences for about twenty minutes, long enough for him to get to the docks and deliver the embryos to the guy there. Then he was going to return and restore everything before anyone realized he was gone. But of course, like the movie, it didn't work out. Hammond was actually a real dick in the book. He was abusing his power and treating everyone like trash when things didn't go his way. Nedry just got sick of him and was also sick of being under payed for his work. That don't make what he did right, but it's easier to sympathize with the book version of him. He never intended on anyone getting hurt, he was just reckless. He touched it curiously, not comprehending. Spit. The dinosaur had spit on him. 'That's creepy', he thought. Then he saw the head snap again and felt another wet smack against his neck just above the shirt collar. he wiped it away with his hands. 'Jesus, it's disgusting' nedry thought and the skin on his neck was already starting to tingle and burn. It was like he had been touched with acid. Then he went to the car door and glared at the creature to make sure it wasn't going to attack and felt a searing pain in his eyes stabbing like spines against the back of his skull. Spit. The dinosaur had spit in his eye. He shut his eyes and covered them as the spit trickled down both sides of his nose. he fell on his side as he was overwhelmed by the everlasting pain. The earth shook beneath him and nedry knew the dinosaur was getting close And despite the searing pain he forced his eyes open and still he saw nothing but flashing spots against black. Slowly but surely the realization came to him. he was blind. The foamy glob of spit blinded him. Nedry struggled to get up using the side of the car as a wave of nausea and dizziness swept over him. The dinosaur was close now, he could feel it getting close, but he couldn't see, he couldn't see anything and his terror was extreme. He stretched out his hands waving them wildly in the air to ward off the attack he knew was coming. And then there was a new searing pain, like a firey knife in his belly and nedry stumble reaching blind to touch the ragged edge of his shirt and then a thick slippery mass that was surprisingly warm. And with horror, he suddenly knew he was holding his own intestines in his hands. The dinosaur had torn him open his guts had fallen out. Nedry collapsed and fell on something scaly and cold, it was the animals foot. Then nedry a new pain on both sides of his head. The pain grew worse and as he was lifted from his feet, nedry knew the dinosaur had his head in it's Jaws. The horror of the realization was followed by a final wish, that it would all be ended soon." - Micheal Crichton, Jurassic park, 1990.

I love that this is a mostly serious sci-fi thriller movie, but somebody couldn’t resist adding the cartoon sound effect to Dennis falling. The ultimate, “there’s always an exception to the rule” moment if you will.
All for the Animals There's actually another theory where there were actually two Dilos in this scene. It wouldn't make sense for her to walk by and wait for him in the Jeep as opposed to just killing him right there like in the novel.
I’ve always theorized that Nedry was fine until he put his hood up and that is what triggered the dilophosaurus to attack. To the dinosaur, it reminded them of frill and then he shakes the stick at it, so he was just sizing up his opponent before making an attack.
"stopp(ed) me..." (the volume went lower)(it used to sound something like "help me" or "somebody" also) dennis nedry: saw signs where they didn't belong and theorized accordingly
3:27 Dilophosaurus: Hello there fat man do you miss me?? Hehehe🥰 Dennis Nedry:😳 oh no 3:29 Dilophosaurus: 😈Time to EAT!!! Dennis Nedry: AAAAHHH HELP ME!!!!
It's funny how Nedry was talking to the Dilophosaurus as if it could understand him saying he doesn't have any food, when he was actually the food himself. And to the Dilo, he was glorious food.
@David Fiore Perhaps if Dennis didn't put up his rain jacket hood, the Dilophosaurus wouldn't of attacked him because the Dilophosaurus thought he was a giant Dilophosaurus challenging to a fight which is why the little Dilophosaurus put up it's own hood.
In the book his death is much more graphic the Dilopasaurus was 22 feet and after it spit toxic in his eyes he felt his insteatines ripped out and then the dinosaur grabbed his head and lifted him 15 feet in the air.
The reason this part disturbed me so much was because of how everything went wrong for this guy. First the storm forces him to rush, causing him to crash, getting hung up on a log. Then he slips and loses his glasses which would have likely saved his eyes from the venom that gets spat at him, then he bonks his head and loses his shaving cream and his potential fortune. Then despite all odds he gets back into the Jeep only to find that the pissed off lizard on steroids that already blinded him is in there with him. Talk about bad luck
Although his death is a bit more gruesome in the book, in the movie it probably took a while for the little guy to get a bite on Nedry that caused fatal bleeding. If you think about it, his death in the movie was probably the more horrific one. Getting eaten alive for minutes is not a way you wanna go.
Sure enough, the death in the original novel was pretty grisly. But the one in this film was, to put it simply, a hellish nightmare from beginning to end.
I always thought the Dilophosaur sounded the most convincing and realistic compared to the other dinosaurs depicted in the movie. That eerie sound is something I’d expect a dinosaur to make, especially from a predator.
Ok, kids. Lets play a game called "count the dumb decisions) Dumb Decision #1: putting his hood up, making the Dilophosaurus think he was challenging her to a fight. Dumb Decision #2: Taunting the Dilophosaurus with a stick Dumb Decision #3: Looking back, which is essential making his eyes bullseyes for the creature. Dumb Decision #4: Leaving his car unlocked.
Its like the Dilophasaurus really wanted a friend to play, but understood everything Nedry was saying and said to itself; he's not getting away with that.
@Kain's Gaming Channel Actually, the moment Dennis put up his rain jacket hood, the Dilophosaurus thought he was a giant Dilophosaurus challenging it to a fight and when the little Dilophosaurus put up it's own hood it was probably saying "okay, I accept the challenge" especially when Dennis threw the stick, it probably angered it even more. But it's unknown if the Dilophosaurus understood what he was saying.
@@Kains_Gaming_Channel It did look at first the Dilophosaurus attacked him to eat him because it looked like the Dilophosaurus was thinking "you're trespassing into my home" but, the moment Dennis put up his rain jacket hood, the Dilophosaurus's body position from 1:55-1:57 was like it was saying "you're a giant one of my species challenging me to a fight" thinking he was a giant Dilophosaurus which is another reason why it put up it's own hood the moment Dennis got back to his jeep.
@@thegamingcat1524 No there is a actual cartooney sound effect when he slips after he pulls out the towing cable that sounds like he slipped on a banna peel.
I'll be honest. I want to see Jurassic Park and The Lost World be remade into a book-faithful miniseries for a variety of reasons, one of them being Nedry's death. The dilophosaurus is 10 ft tall in the novel and not only blinds him, but eviscerates his abdomen with its claws! That's the stuff of nightmares! Who cares if it would be rated TV-MA!? Let's see a ruthless gory Jurassic Park adaptation!!!
Getting millions of dollars sounds nice, but I would never get the money by stealing and being a thief, I would feel like the biggest scum, giving your biggest ambitions a bad name, kinda like how this guy is.
Lyle Plummer Jr. Same here when I was 8. But looking back now, I pretty much enjoyed it- seeing how Dennis fucked over his boss and caused deaths of many. Fat bastard had it coming.
John Santos The park was doomed to fail anyway. It was a good thing Nedry exposed that failure before the park opened to the public and more people died. A few examples of JP’s problems: The only thing between you and the eight ton predator is an electric fence rendered useless when the power goes out, insufficient containment for pack hunting predators with chimp intelligence, computer operated door locks, uncontrolled breeding, and dangerous invasive species reaching the main land. Nedry was greedy, but even if he hadn’t shut off the power the park still would have had a catastrophic failure somewhere.
Notice how Nedry says, "I thought you were one of your big brothers." Indicating that he knew there were bigger Dilophosaurus on the island. Unlike the Velociraptor the book version of the Dilophosaurus was proper sized. Combine this with what Nedry says here and one finds it odd that even in Jurassic World the Dilophosaurus is still being portrayed as small even though the Jurassic Park movie franchise didn't necessarily set that as a standard.
Real life Dilophosaurus was about ten feet tall. This one therefore is just a baby who has no experience with hunting and killing prey. That's why her predatory instincts are a bit slower to kick in.
I love how well-acted this scene is. Nedry doesn’t have his glasses and so at first he thinks the Dilo is a raptor, and you can really hear his panic as it rears up a little (“Nice boy. NICE BOY!”). Then breathes a sigh of relief as he presumably gets a better look at it. They really took advantage of this Dino being practical instead of CGI in this scene, I’m not sure a nuance like that would have been possible if Wayne Knight had had to “act” alongside something he couldn’t see in the moment with the camera that close to both of them
Also, the fact that this Dilophosaurus was likely just a baby or very young, which explains why it's primal hunting urges were slow and it acted more intrigued than aggressive Until he started to walk away, which probably activated its hunting instincs as now its "prey" was leaving. The book version of this scene was way more gruesome interms of pure gore. Especially cause Nedry in the book encounters a fully grown Dilophosaurus instead that splits his stomach open and picks him up by the sides of his head with its jaws. I think both versions are good, I like them both. The film for it portraying more on how a young primal animal would react in such a situation, and the book for how it portrays just how gruesome and horrifying encountering such an adult😮 creature would really be.
In the original book he planned to be gone for less than 10 minutes which wouldn't have been enough time for the dinos to figure out the fence was offline, the storm really screwed things up, but he never intended to kill anyone, just sell company secrets. He should have rescheduled, I have some sympathy for him knowing that the deaths of the patrons and staff at the park were accidental.
I don’t have sympathy but I do have empathy. I empathize with his financial struggles but I can’t sympathize with sabotaging and stealing. Thing is even though it may not have been what he wanted, it still is what he did, it’s damage that can’t be undone.
I've just noticed - when he's getting mauled in the car, the sound they use for his screaming is the exact same audio as his screams when the venom blinds him.
2:17 When Nedry wields the stick, the Dilo looks slightly alarmed, realizing that this new prey can use items as potential weapons. But as soon as Nedry threw it, the dinosaur was ready to go in the offensive.
@G E T R E K T 905 I think that’s the book, in the movie Hammond pays him a good amount but nedry is irresponsible with his money and blames Hammond for it.
Movie Death: Dennis gets into some wacky hijinks with a frilled puppy Book Death: Dennis slowly experiences an excruciating death whilst being blinded, cut open and slowly eaten alive by a large sadistic beast
This scene in the book was slightly more disturbing than this. When Nedry was blinded,we had no idea what was going on because we didn’t have a visual picture of the scene. Then, they said that Nedry felt a harsh stab in the stomach and so he felt his stomach, and it felt warm. Finally,it said that he was touching his own intestines. After that,Nedry was actually DECAPITATED by the dinosaur. That part in the book was brutal.
@@SaImanKayani First it's outside of the car, after he gets the venom in his eyes he realizes he's blind. He then feels a searing pain in his stomach and realizes that his stomach has been cut open and his intestines are falling out. He then falls to the floor in pain and the dilophosaurus puts Nedry's head in its jaws and crushes his head. The book was very graphic in its killings.
Can we bring this dang dino back in the Jurassic movies already?!! How the heck has this thing only appeared in Jurassic Park 1?!! It’s one of the coolest, scariest creatures in the whole series. Bring it back! Also, this one’s not even full-grown. I wanna see one of its “big brothers” that Nedry totally mentions in this scene^^

I had already read the book at least twice so I wasn't impressed when I saw this back in 93. The book has a mythical tragedy vibe to it that the movie doesn't even approach. Now watching it as an adult you can see the genius in the craft of how Spielberg pulled this off. The movie and the book are both legendary in their own way.
@@truesonny5761 I honestly always thought they wanted to change the tone to appeal to children more especially since Stephen Spielberg was a cartoon fan and I imagine most kids wanted to see this in theaters. I could be wrong I wasn't born at the time this movie came out but I knew lots of kids that loved it growing up However at the same time I can understand the films potential for darker more mature tone.
@@matthewlawton9241 How can it possibly be objectively bad when you’re making that deduction with subjective statements? Saying that the dialogue, tone, and music is bad is a subjective remark since to others those aspects work perfectly. You can objectively compare movies in terms of how much work was put into them, but in terms of how ‘good’ or ‘bad’ they are? That’s entirely subjective hun.
I had the opposite experience, read the book after the movie and didn't like it because it was way too bleak, had zero sense of wonder, and almost none of the characters were likeable.
I've read the novel and it's one of my absolute favorites!! I would love to see Jurassic Park and The Lost World adapted into a miniseries for Netflix, more faithful to Crichton's books! And not kid-friendly! I mean TV-MA!! I'll get some crap for this, but as popular and groundbreaking as Jurassic Park was, I don't think it's a great film. Compared to the novel, it's a bit lazy in my opinion. The raft scene, the cold opening, the part where Grant combats several raptors at the same time, and Hammond's complete different personality aren't even included! The movie is good, but no where near great! It's time for a faithful adaptation! True Grit and The Thing were remade to follow closer to the source material and it WORKED!! Jurassic Park and The Lost World can be too!!
I was driving my gladiator through a wooded area during a thunderstorm today. I came to a random "T" intersection and the property owner made a replica of that dock sign. That made my day!

Wayne Knight was awesome in this scene. He portrayed the villan perfectly, and the acting was spot on.
A very memorable movie scene.
Cinema at its finest.
I do love the chirping noises Dilo makes. And the permanently snarky face it has throughout.
Woah wait a minute, maybe this was a “baby” or young, one a early clue to show they were breeding and Nedry didn’t connect the dots.
No I think he meant he was glad it wasn’t a bigger predator like a raptor or a T-Rex. If he knew what it was he wouldn’t have looked back at it
I think it was a reference to the fact that the original book version had the dinosaur be much more massive.
Nedry: "I don't have any food!"
Dilophosaurus: "why you lying?"
Never realized that this sequence is just under four minutes long. It always felt longer!
I know this comment is old and I’m a few years late. But same! The scene felt so longer. It mostly felt like it was 6-10 minutes long.
Real life Dilophosaurus was about ten feet tall. This one therefore is just a baby who has no experience with hunting and killing prey. That's why her predatory instincts are a bit slower to kick in.
I love how the dilophosaurus is like: Hi Dennis, I'm supposed to do something... I don't know what it is, but involves you dying.
@@neonnightoverlord8826 In a twisted sorta way, that's kinda cute.
Its not a baby its just not an accurate depiction of this dinosaur. They dont spit poison etc.
They really took advantage of this Dino being practical instead of CGI in this scene, I’m not sure a nuance like that would have been possible if Wayne Knight had had to “act” alongside something he couldn’t see in the moment with the camera that close to both of them
Also, the fact that this Dilophosaurus was likely just a baby or very young, which explains why it's primal hunting urges were slow and it acted more intrigued than aggressive
Until he started to walk away, which probably activated its hunting instincs as now its "prey" was leaving.

Then, they said that Nedry felt a harsh stab in the stomach and so he felt his stomach, and it felt warm. Finally,it said that he was touching his own intestines.
