WILL IT START? Abandoned Backhoe with Surprise

- Will it start? Abandoned backhoe with surprise ending? We are back at Eddy's place trying to get his old Ford backhoe started. We brought Rufus the Red TYM Tractors T264 with the grapple to move some stuff around and lug our tools out back. We need a Big Tool Rack. We got his old dozer started a couple weeks ago. The old dozer had been setting for 8 years and had a tree growing through the tracks. We are not sure how long this old Ford backhoe has been sitting here, or really what Ford tractor that is under the backhoe kit. Make sure to watch to the end for the surprise.

More videos please i love old tractors getting a second chance at life
Cody, It warms my heart to get an old tractor running. Love old tractors. They are so simple. Tony
They do always get a second Life ,I mean they don't actually ''die'' .
i love those old ford 4 stick backhoe controls, its what i learned on.
They were built back then. Tough old unit.
While you were working on the Ford, John Deere decided to make a guest appearance in the background. 😄 "Nothing runs like me!"
Awesome that it turns over, that's a real good sign. I think I'd disconnect the fuel line (if it's gravity fed) , dump the old fuel and put some fresh gas in it. Just enough to run it. Just a suggestion of course. Great videos!! 😎
We are in agreement. This trip was really to see what we needed.
I've been really getting into watching tractor restoration videos. Yours is by far my favorite. Looking forward to more
Thank you so much. I appreciate that. We are going back on the 25th to get it running.
You are both of you very courageous working under that intense heat 👍😊🌞
So ready for fall. 🥵
@@TonysTractorAdventure 🥴😊👍 Yes I Hear you LOL Cheers !!!
Thanks for the video, Please thank your camera crew. She does a great Job. I appreciate both of you working in that heat to make the video for us.
You are welcome. We are heading back on the 25th to get started. Big fun and hopefully cooler.
I did thank her. She is tough!
I learned the brake part cleaner trick back in 1986 when I was working under my old Pinto. A wasp flew by so I gave it a shot, and it flew through the cloud and was dead before it hit the ground and bounced. It’s been my favorite ever since. Way quicker than the foam sprays.
Yes sir!
HAY TONY DONT WORRY ABOUT LIL BACK STRAPS HE WON'T BITE
Good eats! LOL
Nice surprise 👍
Thank you my friend.
That's a good wood hauler
It is a heavy rig for sure. I don't have anything to haul it will.
like to see you and Hank get it running this week
Hank lives 9 hours from me, so we don't see each other often. Tanja and I were rained out this week, but going back next week.
waiting for this video
Whatever you do don't try to "burn off" that stale gas. Drain it and start fresh. I've personally witnessed two running engines end up with stuck valves from the varnish left behind from bad gas. One was a Willys jeep flat head the other a Dodge wagon 225 six. Both ran fine till shut off and let cool, then refused to start again. Pulled the heads and the valves were stuck open.
Good information
Sometimes it helps to remove the exhaust manifold and spray the valves with WD40 and let it soak or diesel but WD works better.
Remove the rocker cover and wind the engine over by hand until each cylinder is BDC and tap the valves to get them moving but make sure the piston is at bottom of its stroke to be safe.
Otherwise you've gotta pull the head off and overhaul the valves etc.
It has good compression. Going back on the 25th to get it running. Can't wait.
Thanks Tony, a bit of humor together with an interesting subject. I'm probably a tad older than Eddy, at (80). Regards Tony. Bob NZ.
You are welcome. I sure enjoy doing this. Have a great weekend. Tony
I would have liked to see you pop the points with the key on to see if they spark, if not scrape the points to try to make contact. It should not take much to get a little fire......Glad you didn't get stung.......enjoyed the video!!!!
I have order parts. They are inexpensive enough to start new. Tony
Man I'd be draining the fuel at the very least and putting fresh fuel in.
You also need more than three things to fire a petrol engine.
1. Spark/ignition, good plugs
2. Valve and ignition timing
3. Compression
4. Air
5. Clean fuel
6. Tuned Carburettor
7. Good starter with fast enough cranking
8. Good battery
I love getting old engines and machinery going, hate seeing good old machinery rusting in a paddock.
Thanks for the video both of you. 👍😁🇺🇸🇦🇺
We are heading back on the 25th to get it running. Got new new parts.
Awesome man love to see it running. Good job. 👍
I feel like it will. It has good compression.
Thanks for the tip on the brake cleaner!
Yes Sir. Cheaper than wasp spray and works just the same. Instant.
Tractors are super cool but I love dozers. They're the bestest!
I love those old dozers
Awesome video my first tractor was an 8 n ford. Good little tractor. Wow that was 30 something years ago.
I know right. How time Flys
8Ns are some awesome and simple tractors. Even more simple were the 9 and 2Ns.
I look forward to working on it.
Fun video buddy. I love your sense of humor. That old ford "poop scooper" will be a great project to watch and will make for great content. Nice score on that.
I walked around the rest of the day saying "Poop Scooper". I am not sure how my wife puts up with me. I keep her laughing or embarrassed. LOL I can't wait to work on the old 8N.
I know what you mean. Being 50 yrs old and act like I'm 6. Don't know how my wife puts up with it either. Other than aches and pains and grey hair and beard, I definitely don't act my age 😆
I like it.I hope to never get old in how I act. Wide open until the end.
You and hank are awesome guys keep up the good work love these will it start videos
Thank you. We are trying to put out one will it start video each month plus our regular videos
Tony and Hank you guys need to get one of those pop up tents. It will give ya a bit of shade to work under.
We have one now
Great video Tony you are one state south of me I live in southern Indiana there's terrible heat and humidity around here this time of year like a oven lmao 😂 I'm ready to move somewhere with a cooler God bless you and your family
God bless you too. We have ordered parts to finish it up.
g,day from australia great channel , l love old tractor videos keep them coming tony, stay safe ..ray t...
Thank you my friend. We are heading back up to work on the tractor backhoe in a couple weeks.
Can't wait to hear them run and all in few time right ✌️
We are going back to work on them the 25th. I think they will run.
It's always good to hear an old tractor start up and that wasn't supposed to be few it supposed to be dew lol have a great day
I keep waiting for the time you reach in and come out screaming with a big old snake chasing you. Keep up the great videos.
You and me both! The wasp were everywhere to make up for no snakes.
you got the bull dozer running maybe drag it out away from the brush around it
Wasp on the dozer too
The old champion spark plugs... i still run them in almost everything I run
There was only about 3 choices when I was a kid. Now there are 50 different types and brands.
Lots nice stuff around there for restore . That hoe is nice shape 👍
It really is. There was a death and everything was parked her. The dozer set for 7 years. The rubber tire backhoes were used from time to time, but they have set now for a few years without moving.
Dipstick on the radiator 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
My 2019 truck has a dip stick on the coolant.
@@TonysTractorAdventure
Your kidding !
Nope.
@@TonysTractorAdventure
I seen a lot but never a dipstick in a radiator .
2019 Ram 1500. It is my first too.
Ford 4000 Industrial. I have that same backhoe, but not near as nice a shape as that one. Would love to have that.
Thank you my friend. We are going to spend some time getting it up and running. I just ordered points, plugs, cap, etc. I will try to get back up there in a couple weeks.
Wow that is one old backhoe try the starter it might help to get it turn over run .great video keep up hard work great video.👷♂️👷♂️👷♂️👷♂️👷♂️
Thank you. Going to try to get it started this week if it will ever stop raining.
I would check to see if the coil is good before distributor cap and rotors and points
Going to get it all. To far to drive.
Well I see the alternator somebody had changed it over I bought one and it was 6 V it was positive ground and somebody burnt everything up in it
Most everything I run into has been converted
My brain doesn't like positive ground.
Great job 👍
We ordered parts and will get back up there in a few days. After it cools a bit.
Tony's Tractor Adventure you doing great job Bring back this beautiful Machine to work
I was taught the three basic things you need to start is fuel spark and compression without these the engine will not run and then was taught about a lot of how the engine works eg (compression makes power, to make power you have to make the engine more efficient the more power you make the hotter the combustion temperature and so on and so on) (I have not said it right though) love your vids very very enjoyable I love this kind of stuff I will watch out for them
Don, That was what is was taught too. To my surprise my teachers were wrong. You got to have air first. If there is a rats nest in the air cleaner, it will never start. Once the intake is clear from blockage, the engine compresses air. Fuel, spark, and oxygen for something to burn. Answer me this one. If you are walking through a parking lot and you hear a cars alarm sounding. Is the car alarm going off or coming on?
if you want to be like this, sounds like you failed your teacher badly, wouldn't clean airways come under maintenance, eg if the head was not bolted on or no gasket (or o rings) to seal it to the block or injectors blocked, now can you tell me is the glass half full or half empty, still a good show though
Don, You are right! You are correct. It is a video buddy, not a school. It is meant to be fun and entertaining. I will say many things wrong. I have spent 5 years in all types of automotive schools over a 30 year career as a Maintenance Warrant Officer. It is a little different setting behind the computer sharp shooting every word, than it is setting in front of a camera in 100 degree weather working. I will bet you this. It will run in the end. Enjoy life
@@TonysTractorAdventure Don't let it bother you just be yourself
You are a stand up guy. I appreciate that.
Good whatching work start backhoe
Thank you my friend. We enjoy doing this. Tony
Same Tony good report 🤝
It's about time RUclips hosted an ad about "carry-alls" that remotely interests me as much as the videos do!
I want a Big Tool Rack. As I do more of these types of videos, I need so much stuff. I also thought about a side by side.
Tony love your videos did you get the old backhoe running
Filming on the 25th of this month. It is an 1.5 hours away. First time we could go. Video should be out in September.
Looks like an old 172 cubic inch ford engine. The backhoe I think is an 1801 ford.
We were going back up to work on it today, but this hurricane is throwing bad weather our way. Maybe next week.
You might want to watch out for snakes because it's so warm out there
Watching for snakes is like breathing for us. We just do it. There were no snakes, because you didn't see me shoot straight up into the sky. LOL
Snakes can't be there by now ,with that noise.
I wonder what is the hole above the headlights is for .?
Jane Ordway that hole is for the plastic ornament that shows this is a Ford 4000 heavy duty industrial
I agree with Ken
Pretty sure that is a 63-65 ford industrial 4140.... I could be wrong...
I wish I could post a photo of mine!
Most people are agreeing with you.
That tractor looks like a ford jubilee basically kinda like the 4000
Turns out to be a 4000 Ford.
Tony's Tractor Adventure awesome them old tractors are the best there like the IH utility series
Hey Tony, for what its worth we had an old mechanic who passed away 20 years ago in Jacksonburg. He was really good. Especially anything Ford related. He always told us never run a Champion Spark Plug in a Ford. Motorcraft, or Autolite was always his recommended brands to use. Another thing to consider is the fuel filter. If its sat for a while theres probably tarnish in the gas tank and carburetor. I'm confident you'll getter running.
Dean, Thank you my friend. We ordered parts for it and will get back up there when it cools down some. It was brutal that day.
what week in September is the video coming out
Don't know. Still haven't shot the video. It has rain ever day since the hurricane came. Wet year. We have a great day today, so we are heading up there this morning.
Tony ty for the update stay safe out there watch out for those wasp and snake good luck
I'd be checking your coil
Yep. Ordering a new coil, plugs, points, ballast resistor, condenser, etc
"Breathe that once," hilarious!
Thank you my friend. Have a great weekend. Tony
Its a 4000 commercial tractor/backhoe. Its a 1964 model more than likely.
If you notice the rear booms are totally different. The cylinder is inside the hoe arm.
The only real problem with that model is the thrust mains on front of the engine wear out because of the front mounted hydraulic pump. Our power steering pump is bad so its been parked since about 2009.
Thank you for all the insight. I will check it out.
I hope that tractor is not positive ground if it is you burnt the generator up or the alternator
It was most likely converted before I could walk good.
You could try some ether starting fluid
Scott, We had no spark. I got some parts on order. I think I can get that running in the next video. Picking up the 8n also.
@@TonysTractorAdventure ok just saying that the fuel might have water in it and good luck trying to get it started 🤔🤔🤔🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🙏🙏🙏🙏
Love this
Thank you. We just shot part two yesterday. It has rained for two weeks.
Looks like a Ford 4000 industrial tractor.
I agree with you and most others do also.
hey Tony you go help Hank and tommy get the John Deere 310 G Backhoe going
Dan, I think Hank is going to blow up the 310. That is a great looking backhoe.
Love the vids
Thank you my friend. It is something fun we are doing from time to time. Plus, we are helping a friend get his equipment started. Tony
Great video love these old fords If you’re ever in Vermont hit me up if want I’ll show you my old ford truckI’ve always wanted to find an old Ford eight and nine and with the bucket loader or poop scooper as you call it which is another name for it and all the other implements that you could have bought for the tractor so I could have to complete farm implement set up
That would be awesome to see. If I ever get up there, I will give you a shout out. Tony.
Tony's Tractor Adventure ok cool thanks
firstest thing a mech would do is spritzel a little gas in the carb. next would be emery paper the points with your wifes emery board for her nails and then burn all that stinky gas the rest of the day.
No spark. Got to fix that first.
That tractor might be middle sixties maybe later 🤔🤔🤔🤔 or early seventies
Is that right. I will look up the Serial Number on the next video and find out. I just wanted to look it over that day. It was so hot, my soft butt, was melting. I am ordering some parts and will go back in a couple weeks. Tony
Looks like early to mid sixties. The color, if original, will indicate the year. Ford 4000 HD Industrial.
We are going back to get it started on the 25th. I think it will run.
@@TonysTractorAdventure ok I wish you luck with getting it started 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
@@jseidel21403 that sounds about right
Tony, I get anxiety watching you put your hands in those holes, watch out for 🕷️ and 🐍 get some gloves.
I taste bad buddy. I have so much diesel in me, I kill snakes.
You should take the loader off your ford 8n there not Real good loader tractors
I will to restore it.
the dipstick is in front of the camera
That's right!
so the tractor was not really abandoned
You caught me. It was just left out back for years with no attention.
It's a Ford it will run
That is right. I will get it running.
Too many darn ads!!!
I agree. If I look the other way, Google will put so many in the video. I manually cut it down to two.
