Lisa was my hero as a kid. I once went to her game as a Olympian and got too scared to ask for her autograph because she was so tall 😅 I definitely regret it, but that’s a core memory ❤
It’s funny how tall people can be so intimidating. And then I look back at my life and wonder why it’s always short men who want to date me..
I met Lisa in high school. My basketball team went to watch her Olympic team at the University of Washington. I was in a crowd of kids screaming her name....she was leaving but looked back directly at me and came to me and gave me her autograph. I was literally was one of few black girls at that event and she made me feel really special in that moment. Thank you Leslie for being a positive role model!
I remember when the WNBA started. I never liked watching basketball until I saw Lisa Leslie playing. She was so much fun to watch!

I was there when Lisa Leslie did her REAL first dunk. It wasn't a regular game. It was in DC 2002, the WNBA All Star Game practice. I was a season ticket holder, so I was i bited to attend. She dunked and the whole place celebrated. It wasn't an official game, so I'm not sure if they got it on camera. But ir was so exciting!

I'm a tall gal also: 6' tall with 3' long legs & size 14-16. When I was in my 20s, Lane Bryant was the only store that had a tall section (online only). Growing up, either my Mom or I made most of my clothes. I used to buy guys' jeans at the GAP. Later on, KMart sold Route 66 jeans for women, which came in Talls. I also had trouble finding shoes. I wear a 10-1/2 C in the front & A in the back. I always said that if I had unending amounts of money, the first thing I would do was have shoes made specifically for my foot. Don't even get me started on trying to find boots that fit- LOL.
When I was in Jr HS, a random Woman came up to me & my Mother, & complimented me on the fact that I was sitting in a chair & standing up with my back stick-straight up instead of slouching. She said I was the first tall girl she had ever seen who didn't try to hide her height. I told her that I was proud to be 6' tall & that I came from a family with tall Women. My Mom's 2 Sisters were also 6' tall.
I'm so glad that women's sports are getting more attention. Women are fierce competitors. Yes, they play for the love of the game; they also play To Win. We Women need to support our Sisters; we need to attend Women's games just like Men attend Male-dominated sports. Girl Power!

I was already (chronologically) an adult when I learned tall girls didn't like it or felt awkward. Immediately thought that was nuts. Tall girls are awesome. (Being the obnoxious type, if I dated a tall girl, used to say I kept her around for protection).

She would be in my starting five for sure. She was an amazing player. I can only imagine her with Cheryl Miller on the same team because those two could play with anybody and beat anyone! Diana Taurasi, Sheryl Swoops, Cynthia Cooper so many great players in the history of the WNBA that would be a wicked starting five. I realize Cheryl never played in the league because of injuries but she would still be in my starting five!

I remember seeing Lisa Leslie at the Seattle Reign games in the first years of the WNBA. My daughters and I really admired her. My daughters played basketball at the boys and girls club and we only got to go to the games because a friend with season tickets would give me the tickets to the games he couldn’t go to. We sat under the basket and a player once landed in my daughter’s lap (she was in 5th or 6th grade at the time) but she was so excited she got to touch a player. Then after the game the players would come out and sign things for the fans. It was just such a great experience.
The joy and wisdom in this interview is so beautiful.

It used to be fun 20 years ago to put on a track suit and walk around NY because every other person would ask if I was Lisa Leslie or if I was an WNBA player. I've never played a game of basketball in my life, lol. I can't believe how much she and I are alike after this interview. I love fashion and I still wear menswear, NY & Co and loved Long Girl Sally and Dunks are my favorite sneakers. 😊

I'm 5'11 and used to slouch quite a bit, especially around men. I have a picture with Black Thought from The Roots, who's 5'7, and I'm looking like The hunchback of Notre Dame 🤣🤣🤣. With maturity comes self-love though, so I can laugh about it now with my head held high and my back straight, lol. Also, as a tall black woman from Los Angeles, this interview got me in my feelings! Love these two together.
