I've not been this year yet watching you is inspiring me though, I need to get out great show again watched you since day one and still love the ta crew 😁👍❤️
Don't know about any freshwater fishing but our local pier has thrown up several conger a few 20lbs + one 30lb + in the afternoon earlier this week and a double figure undulate as well while i was there
Had a few whiting and a doggy from the beach along Holland-on-Sea on just sand eels by way of bait experiment. Not the standard bait down our way but I figured fishing has changed so much in the last 4-5 years here it was worth a shot.
I have followed this Fisherman for many years on youtube he is a true fisherman a man that loves nature not a tackle tart just a man out on the bank loving what he does
Have the same reel, I use it also to catch carp. I bent the ratchet spring to tone down the noise as my son said it was to loud. When you hear the ratchet sound when a carp gets hooked, love it.
Yes,its just another way to fish, and enjoyable when you can master it...I only do it occasionally now,but its like working with an old tool in your workshop...quite satisfying.
Graham, with a proper centrepin (i.e. no ball bearings) a tiny amount of weight can pull line off the reel. With my old Speedia centrepin with line passed through the rod's butt ring only, a mere No.6 shot (0.1g weight) on the end of the line is enough to keep the spool slowly revolving. Small floats and minimal shotting are no problem. Superb channel by the way, been watching for ages, especially love the fact you often use old gear and not the latest greatness all singing all dancing wallet emptying gear.
The correct centerpin has 1 or 2 stainless steel encapsulated bearings precisely for smooth operation. And definitely a quality centerpi is not cheap (lasts 10 - 40 years) and costs $150 to $900. and the more expensive it is, the less slack it has at the coil. Of course, this does not apply to plastic "nonsense" winches that keep breaking, are unrepairable and expensive because you buy them for x years of suitcases.
Brilliant! Brilliant! As always Mr Pullen hits the mark and explains things clearly and concisely, very entertaining too. My wife bought me a centre pin for Xmas and I’ve struggled using it so will have another go soon.
Nice vid again. I have a couple of wooden centerpins inherited from my grandfather. He taught me to fish with them and a split bamboo rod. Good health and stay safe.
Love fishing the pin, I use an old Allcocks match aerial and had some decent chub and roach on it from the Dorset stour and other rivers. Even had a couple of double figure pike on it! (Hooked accidentally). So easy to play fish with a centrepin.
The Match aerial was the first pin reel I had,but liked another I used, was it called a Rapidex ? Had closed rim, rather than caged rim like the Aerial..It was a bit smaller than the Aerial..Anyone out there know if I'm remembering correctly ?..Rapidex ?
I've seen Rapidex reels for sale on eBay etc, made by Youngs. The Aerial I managed to buy off a collector a few years back, was recommended by a mate of mine who knows about these old pin reels. It must be a good 50 years old and performs like a dream. A lot of these old reels are bought by collectors put in a glass case and never see a river bank, which is a shame as that's what they were built for!
Hi Graham....lovfe your fishing session. There is a small stream, even smaller than this one near my house (5 min walk) and in there are some really fat chubs (4-5 lbs)....doesn't take anything, only one of them take maggots and I got it more than 10 times and I know it is the same fish every time cuz it has a some kind of deformation on his dorsal fin. But it is great fun to watch them
I think this is pure fishing and it takes us back to our childhoods Something good pure about it and anyone can do it Cost is small Pure fishing Hope this makes sense
Graeme i just started using boilies on a freshwater Lagoon where i live in Cape Town south Africa the Lagoon where i fish i catch Carp on bread and sweetcorn.please give me some advice on what to do to get the carp feeding on my boilies
The best Angler l knew had his line coming from the top. Two butt rings close together help one pull out twice as much line to cast and in shallow running water put a split shot above the float helps.
that chub was sweet.I am currently looking to get a decent centrepin, any chance you could do a vid with a really nice centrepin like an Aerial match or a jw youngs?
Hey Graeme I’m looking at tackling some different areas and I’m new to fishing ( learning everything from your videos so thank you! ) how do you go about fishing these places? Who do you ask for permission? I have my license and pay for my day on the canal or river Avon, but was looking at more rural/off the map streams. What would you suggest, Thankyou !
Ive always wondered how come you dont salmon fish!?? I know youre mad into carp but ive always wondered why you never salmon fish!!? Personally I fish for sea bass and shark and I do love sea fishinf but my go too is salmon fishing!! Only another week till the season opens here, cant bloody wait!! 👍👍🎣🎣😀😀
I have Salmon fished(had them over 30lbs) biggest I had once was estimated by the guide to be around 60lbs.He had it in the net then it ripped out and we lost it. One of the few regrets, but at least it was in the net for a millisecond)...Trouble with Salmon fishing is you have to waste so much time searching for one, even if they are there it might not take. Would be an incredibly boring film, with a lot of talking ,and of course not many anglers can afford the cost of License/Salmon fishing days. I don't fancy waiting all day with a camera set up for nothing. Its hard enough making fishing films on my own and catching fish as it is .
@@TAFishing wow 60lbs is no joke, not surprising it broke the net!! Ah ya I get that for sure it definitely is hard to hook up,the time it takes to catch one is definitely difficult but well worth the time for me anyways in my opinion!! But I understand what you mean its very time consuming and there are many days when you see them but theyre not interested!! Il be making youtube videos of salmon fishing this year so if anyone wants to watch come subscribe!!
The Salmon I lost in the net was a Harrison White Spring that was running up to the Fraser River in British Columbia..just in case someone thinks it was a 60lb Atlantic Salmon !!...that really would have been a sickener )
@@TAFishing Ahh ya I was thinking 60lbs is huge for an Atlantic salmon the biggest ive seen caught online is a 40lbr but still possible for a 60!!! My goal is to try and catch a 20lb Atlantic this year ive seen them in the river I fish but as weve said its cery difficult to catch them regardless of seeing them!! 😀👍 Thanks for the advice over the years though, youve definitely helped me get interested in flyfishing and this year im trying to catch a salmon on the fly aswell!! 🎣🎣
Size..The Centrepin reel is large to allow the line to come off easily( think fulcrum principle) while the fly reel is much smaller and is basically just somewhere to store the flyline . One turn of a centrepin under pressure(fighting a fish) gets more line on the reel, while a fly reel needs lots of small turns. You couldn't put a Centrepin reel on a flyrod,it would be too heavy and unbalance the flyrod.
@@TAFishing I see. Thanks for enlightening me! I've been thinking about getting into fly fishing for a while now, but where I'm from, the opportunities to fly fish are little to none. Pier fishing is my main means of fishing at the moment. Love that mini species video you made, by the way!
Went to Hanningfield reservoir yesterday fishing for trout, well over 20 boats and more than 50 anglers on the bank and only 2 fish were caught the whole time I was there
Hey, I normally fish with a centerpin, you just have to put the hook with the bait on or just in front of the baited spot, so that the bait goes through the water current between the fish. Definitely, I don't cast behind the feeding spot, it doesn't make sense. In the video, there is a stream, a maximum of 1 g of float is enough for it, maybe 0.8 g is better. The fisherman must ensure that his shadow is reflected in the water, he is crouched, because if he is standing, the bigger fish will see you and leave. The float should have several small pencils (ideally 3-4 pieces) and it is important to have one about 10-15 cm above the hook so that the water current carries the bait near the bottom and not in the water column. This is how it flies in the water at 50 cm and it rather scares the fish, certainly the bigger ones are long gone. I definitely would not present how you throw fish several meters into the water. A professional fisherman takes a landing gear even for a small fish, a small one grows into a big one. And if he gets hit, sometimes he won't survive.
How do you know there's even fish in that small stream to begin with? Do you actually have to see them? Nice chub. But if you need minnows, that's the place to find them.
Its a chalk stream in origin so mostly clear, and very weedy in summer. On a sunny day it is possible to spot the fish, but mostly its seeing where the really shallow spots are and walking by them without fishing. Just spot where the slightly deeper pools are and run your bait through them. Its where most of the fish will be.
It's a shame you need a good flow of water and they do the job for you love them even shrimping for salmon with braid brilliant in fact totally awsome 👍👍👍
No,it is designed specifically for running a float down a river giving you a constant speed . A fly reel is much smaller and would not release line being smaller diameter.

Would you ever use a Centrepin from a Pier, etc ? I was thinking a Weighted Bomb Float might work. What's your thoughts.
