What is with all of these people discussing th existence o god in the comments? Not once in this song do they claim god is dead. They say to "take the road where devils speak 'god is dead.'" They're saying to take a path of hardship/criticism.
I love South Park but I wasn't thinking about that when I wrote that. If anything, I was thinking about the Family Guy episode where Stewie & Brian are traveling through different dimensions and in one where there is a sign that reads, "Cancer Now Cured! All diseases are now cured!" and people were flying around with jetpacks. When Stewie asks where they were, Brian says, "we're in a dimension where religion was never invented and therefore wasn't able to hold back science".
This trail is obsidian The grip of winter uncoiled A lover would follow me cast out and sworn to the dark Take the road where devil's speak God is dead, God is dead The wealth of darkness Inside you, telling you "now" Your Senses corrupted Controlling a poisonous will Take the road where devil's speak God is dead, God is dead In the corner of my eye You are tearing flesh from bone. its called a paradiddle, a drum rudiment, more often used in jazz and all kinds of similar stuff. in that case its a bit more complex than a single paradiddle. look it up, its interesting
I wouldn't say that at all. There will be slight similarities being as they share a genre (PROG), but it sounds much closer to PFM or Gentle Giant than Yes.
Indeed, its Pain through to Heaven by Popol Vuh for the soundtrack of Werner Herzog's Nosferatu (bloody great film!). I was surprised because I always got a bit of an Opeth mood whenever listening to Popol Vuh, I didn't expect Opeth actually used a bit of it live haha
KaathariaRandall Also I can't recall a better Popol Vuh vibe more the "Atonement" from Ghost Reveries. It has that exotic tribal world feel with that pedal note thats very Popol Vuh, it was so unique that it pop out from the album for me.
"Take the road where Devils speak God is dead." They don't claim that God does not exist. Nonetheless, you should have a jetpack and I should have one too.
I knew that. I really like this band. But actually, I did what you said and let my imagination go where it wanted to go and ran my original comment from there. As they say, you can't believe in the devil without believing in one of those gods. One of the ways OPETH works is that the gods and fantasy fiction go well together.
If Mike only had less of an ego and hire someone for the grunts, they could still rock. Opeth was always at its strongest walking the prog/deatrh line. Heir apparent, Blackwater Park... that stuff \m/
It does sound like he's gotten a little bit better at singing now. If he really wants to turn it up to eleven he should do the fashionable thing and quit smoking.
I wouldn't blame so much the scientist, but the system we're all part of without choice. Scientists come up with solutions for "problems" posed by corporations and governments. Yeah, sure. They have great ideas, but if they don't fall within political interests, they're disregarded or even "contained." Look up "water engine is outdated" in youtube, for example. I'm sure you'll find something interesting
Just read the title of the track! They don't say "God is that" out of blue... It's a line in a specific context. Let your imagination play it's role, dammit!
Science ain't perfect that's for sure, but a lot of those bad ethics and morals you are speaking of come directly from the religions. As they say, it's not the parts of the Bible I don't understand that worry me so much; it's the parts I do understand that scare me the most. And... All good ideas start out as blasphemes. God certainly should be dead for the good of us all.
Sometimes, but the truth wills out usually. I'm willing to live on that particular edge partially because the jokes are funnier. And I wouldn't be comfortable being with the crowd that's forced to say, "God's not dead, He's just useless." Thanks though, bro.
I just noticed---Axe looks too big for that downsized kit, lol. Yet, for some reason he sounds looser and more playful than ive ever heard him otherwise.
Yeah I get it but most scientist are hell bent (see what I did there :P) on making new inventions yet they don't realise the destruction some can cause because they don't think about it. I don't mind belief or science but as soon as you threaten people with hell for not believing in your religion or as soon as you don't think about the repercussions of your invention bad things happen. I understand what you are saying and I agree but they are both bad but yeah religion is a little worse
Kyle, if you don't mind, I'll venture forth and say that religion is a lot worse. God is really just an imaginary friend for adults, and that's not a safe thing really for an adult to have.
Fedir Belenko not pop at all, it's pure prog rock and it's completely fine, since opeth isn't and has never been a death metal band, they are a prog band that happen to incorporate death metal elements to their songs
I hate the way Mikael has started to sing since Watershed and forwards, it's really fucking annoying. That constant rockstar vibrato and those little falsetto "eh" sounds, just stop it, it sounds incredibly forced and corny. Just because you can it doesn't mean you should. Pre Watershed vocals >>> Watershed and onwards vocals. Actually, this goes for the material itself too. Watershed sounds disjointed, forced and cheesy and so does Heritage and Pale Communion.
Interesting. I think his clean vocals sound better than ever. I think they are stronger and more resonant than his early cleans. It's fun to see what Mikael's songs sound like with the melody in the vocals. To each his own, but I'm having fun watching the evolution. They still play the heavy material live (i.e. practice it constantly) and they have played deliverance over 800 times live alone so the hard songs are deep in their nervous systems. It's not like the heavy vibe will ever leave entirely. Ozzy sang in Black Sabbath and they invented metal.

You can tell this is mikael's favorite solo, just look at that reaction whenever they play this live, he really feels this everytime, amazing
Mikael doesnt play any solos in this song

Axe was taking a swig of water, lol.
Love hearing the Aussie crowd chant 'Opeth', they really accentuate the vowels
opeth is one of a kind. different level. holy shit.
Fantastic drum performance.
Just like everything on Heritage
And people say new Opeth sucks. Are you what..deaf?? This is a masterpiece ladies & gentlemen!! A true progressive work!!!
You are correct sir, fantastic musicians
holy shit this is way cooler than the studio version
instablaster.
This is definitely the most balanced concert (in terms of attention to each member) that Mike has ever put on.
if you dislike new Opeths sound, go listen fucking burzum
Opeth strives only to taunt me that I can never achieve the brilliance that they have acquired as a whole.
song starts @ 1:45

Never heard of them until now...Love em already!
Amazing Voice. Love you Mike!
yeah when the were touring this album hearing the old heavy stuff was great, but this album and esp this song was great live.
Holy shit! This is awesome! They sound almost exactly like they do on the record!
What is with all of these people discussing th existence o god in the comments? Not once in this song do they claim god is dead. They say to "take the road where devils speak 'god is dead.'" They're saying to take a path of hardship/criticism.

Does anyone know the origins of the beat that starts at 6:21 ?? I've heard it in 2 other songs
its called a paradiddle, a drum rudiment, more often used in jazz and all kinds of similar stuff. in that case its a bit more complex than a single paradiddle. look it up, its interesting
smells like steven... i love both.
did he forget the say first why or this is because that is live version?
Axe's drums sound so much more natural here than on the overprocessed Red Rocks DVD. Just wish the mix balance was a little better.
I wouldn't say that at all. There will be slight similarities being as they share a genre (PROG), but it sounds much closer to PFM or Gentle Giant than Yes.
şunun solosunu neden daha uzun yapmadın fredrick..
does anybody know what that acoustic intro around 1:20 is?
Heritage, track Nº1 from the album with the same name.
I think its on of Poh pul vuh track from the dracula soundtrack
Its definitely a great fit for live
SerjBassist
No it's not.

What song do they use as the intro?
Since when was this Otep? Last time i checked, it was Opeth...
2005-and then
maybe, but have you got any proof? The intro is from Popol Vuh BTW.
Dat bend. 7:40
Eargasm
6:42 Metropolis Pt.2
Michele Perrone Damn, never realized that.
The drummer deserves a better drum mix. Still, this performance is still unreal and sounds better than the record version.
God🔥🤘

Prog Metal to tasting.
Totalmente Sara 🙂 Saludos desde México.

Un disco CO JO NU DO
This is like eating blackberries all day and shitting in the forest. Mutual. Symbiosis.

aw man thats gonna fuck his voice up real fast
metal4bld what are you talking about bro?
Whatch and learn

I'm 3 years later but dude, it's not about his ego or if he could growl or not, he just dont want to. Hes MATURING
Black Sabbath disgrees haha. Both great bands before anybody starts. I fuckin love Opeth and Black Sabbath.
take the road where devil speaks ...
GOD IS DEAAAAADDDDD
Why did it say mosh cam if there was no moshing at all?
Agree ... I felt much better after droping that poisonous habbit.
Fashionable or not, quiting smoking is a wise decision.
that,s the show to drop a purple micro dot or 5.
Yes, because the early 20th Century was progress.
South Park WOW episode "How can you kill that which has no life"
they played so thrashy, so fast. but i dont say its bad.
since when was Otep spelled with an H?
It does sound like he's gotten a little bit better at singing now. If he really wants to turn it up to eleven he should do the fashionable thing and quit smoking.
Drummer is killing

Yep, sorry.
k.... really time to ditch that over-long intro track. Just come on out dudes and play.
God is dead and jet packs are never gonna happen. God'll make a return in new clothes by the time people have forgotten what a jet pack is.
Just read the title of the track! They don't say "God is that" out of blue... It's a line in a specific context. Let your imagination play it's role, dammit!

this is really not metal :D:D
Lukas Omasta What's it matter? Music is music!
Lukas Omasta its really pure bullshit pop music with long haired drummer :D
Lukas Omasta Yeah, speaks the fucking expert in the matter i see. Bitch please! Go listen to the rest of their albuns and then we speak.;) Cheers!
Lukas Omasta hehehe

Nobody needs your opinion and negativity. Suck it up and don't listen to them then.
slumbarian Because if an opinion isn't positive you shouldn't give it, yeah that's a good way to face life.
his clean vocals are better than ever in my opinion, just wish his growls were back but that probably won't ever happen sadly
Interesting. I think his clean vocals sound better than ever. I think they are stronger and more resonant than his early cleans. I absolutely love and adore Watershed. The mix of heavy and clean vocals is so goddamn beautiful. It legit opened my mind to the true beauty of music
