I love this outboard. I bought an upgrade boat for walleye fishing on lake Erie. This outboard is fuel efficient and very quiet. It works well as a kicker with my trolling motor. Very happy with it.
I have an 2001 model. It has a oil change reminder every 100 hours. When You start the engine and rpm goes over 2000 you hear a loud beep and the oil pressure light comes on. Very annoying. In Suzuki`s DF70 counterpart motor You can reset reminder easily. Turn on the power and pull the emergency switch three times in a row, that`s it. Evinrude has a different remote control box with a different emergency switch. Key and the switch together. Do you or any reader know how to reset reminder?
we have this motor and it stumbles and misfires at low rpm and throttle. Seems ok if you are cruising. We don't have any service records but we do change the oil and filter annually. Please advise
Came back from dealer and there is no more pressure coming from the low pressure fuel pump.if i remove the pump is the push rod can fall down,or something else i need to know thanks
Hi just bought a boat with a evinrude 70 hp 4 stroke 2001 and they told me i have a problem with the poppet valve. The engine alarme starts as soon as a hit 4500 rpm and the engine stop . Do you know where is that poppet valve on that engine ? Thanks for your help
Hello I am checking info on this motor but 2000 year. Common problems, and any other facts that may come to mind. Maybe purchasing the motor and doing the research.
I have a 1999 Evinrude 70 HP E70PL4EE and it does not pee. I removed the side panel and cannot find where the problem starts. Any tutorials or guidance is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
@@AaronRankin That makes sense & I hope you are right. Just before I attached the garden hose, I unplugged the hose that attaches to the pee hole. I have not tried it on a lake since I unplugged the last hole. I assumed since the garden hose made it pee, the muffs would too. Many thanks
I'm not a know it all, I was told by an evinrude dealer that you don't use muffs on this motor. The water intake is on the bottom of the cavitation plate. So you need to submerge it below the plate by using a barrel or such.
Hi. I just got one of these, and we've had it out twice. The engine seems great. Just purrs. However it isn't peeing. We backflushed it with a garden hose, and checked all the hoses we could find. All clear. Does this sound like an impeller issue? Thanks in advance.
@@AaronRankin Thanks so much. It's been very hard to find much about this particular engine. I figured that might be the problem, so I ordered a kit for replacing the impeller/water pump. Do you know of any instructional videos that would help?
I just got a new to me boat with this same motor. I had little water coming from the pee hole also. The guy I bought it off of said he just replaced the water pump. After I got it out on the water the first time I noticed that the engine wasn't warm. I ordered a new thermostat and when replacing the old one, the old thermostat was stuck open. Since then the water flow had increased tremendously with no problems. I don't need problems 10 miles out on lake Erie.
Im picking up a 98 model tomorrow that hasnt been ran for 10 plus year... well thats according to the seller. What step should i take for preparation to get it start?
A strong battery or new battery, empty old tanks fuel, add fresh ethanol free fuel, clear old fuel out of fuel line from tank to motor, check oil levels, look at spark plug condition.
Hello I have the 99!E70PL4EEC on my pontoon. I’ve looked everywhere for a water pressure gauge kit from OMC . Any ideas on where I can find one and where to connect to the water port? Thanks
Mine is doing the same. Mechanic told me the water thermostat sensor may need replaced. The old thermostat is telling the motor that it's overheating when it's actually not. Putting the engine into safe mode.
@@AaronRankin It needs ethanol free gas. This engine hates ethanol and requires ethanol free gasoline.. In addition, WOT will bog in a barrel for protection. It needs to be under load
can you tell me if that water dump is because your running it in a barrel or should that be wide open as well, I just bought a used motor and it has water trick ling out the hole to the left?
If it's trickling, it may have a mud dobber wasp nest in your water outlet, or the water pump is worn out. If it's a mud dobber, use a thin wire to run up the holes.
At 52 seconds in the video I show the oil drain plug. Open that and catch the oil with an oil pan. Once all the oil has drained out, remove the oil filter. Now put drain plug back in. Replace oil filter and add a light coating of oil on rubber filter gasket seal and hand tighten. Add new oil to engine. Goodluck. Check dipstick to check oil level.
Changing the water pump impeller on one of these. Do you know if the transmission linkage needs to be disconnected or is it a spline-type shift rod that will just slide out once the lower unit is removed like the drive shaft will?
@@AaronRankin found it. Needs to be disconnected, there’s a gap where you can see the linkage right above the lower unit and below the lower motor mount. Figured I’d share here, not a lot of info about this motor online.
How to adjust the idle? Starts fine, back out of dock and kills when shifting to forward and takes several try’s to restart, but once restarted runs fine. Seems idle is too low?
I've had it out 5-6 times. Had to change fuel pump. $80 online. It's been running much better, and fuel is no longer getting into my crank case from the low pressure fuel pump.

Hello I am checking info on this motor but 2000 year. Common problems, and any other facts that may come to mind. Maybe purchasing the motor and doing the research.
My 1999 had raw fuel going into the crankcase. I found that the problem was the fuel pump. I replaced it and it's running great.

Most likely needs a new waterpump impeller.
@@AaronRankin thanks for the reply. When I attach a garden hose directly to it, it will pee. It does not pee with the muffs on. Thoughts? Thanks!
@guesswho1918 Mine did the same with muffs. When I put it in the lake, then it started peeing. Maybe the muffs don't have enough pressure? 🤔
