      It reminds me of this one line from Kim Possible: "Everyone in the future is ripped!" Except with JoJos, it's the logical opposite. The farther _back_ in time you go, the more ripped people are. As the universe goes on - and Araki formalizes his art style - everyone gets slimmer. Less steroid-abusing weight lifters, and more swimmers or gymnasts. At the start, though, if the character was male, they were swole as hell. Even the children.

      late response but... I believe the best genre to suit a JoJo game would be a graphic-adventure game like Monkey Island for example. Each fight would be its own puzzle to solve and seeing how contrived and crazy the solutions are in the manga it would fit right in with the old Lucas Arts and Sierra games.

    • @God_gundam36
      @God_gundam36 5 лет назад +14

      @@retardedfishfrogs1 The golden wind game got very close to being a perfect adaptation. Every mission is a puzzle boss fight. Game's like fury pulled that off too so a jojo game that has you take part in most of the fights from all the parts would be dope. Maybe add a multiplayer 1v1 mode and custom fight scenarios with the added effect of using certain stands would break the match like vanilla ice being able to one shot people but your screen goes black while you use it.

    Part 1 is personally my favorite, but I am far for oblivious to its flaws. I agree the middle of it is just.. not very good. but I love the start and the end of it, and the anime version was my introduction to the series, so I'm a bit nostalgic for it.
    I think the best part of it is the relationship between the main villain and the protagonist, because in all the parts that follow its really not that very interesting when it comes to thag aspect. the motivation for Joseph is just to kill the big bad to save the world, Jotaro wants to save his mommy, Josuke wants to.... i don't even remember? Johnathan has some stakes and past with Dio at least which I like quite alot.

      Yeah I love how Johnathan struggles between him wanting a brother in Dio and having to kill the murderous vampire that he truly is. As I've mentioned in another comment, I think the Tarkus and Brufford fight actually has some symbolism to his inner struggle with this in an interesting way. It's this constant want to forgive and love Dio despite all he's done that makes me love Johnathan so much and makes the ending one of the best.

    It's weird that they picked Part 1 for this. A part with very little action for the first half, and not too many memorable fight scenes past the the initial setup of situations. Part 2 would've been a much better fit if they wanted to keep it to pre-Stand fisticuffs. This movie being infamous for being shelved after its short theatrical premiere for unknown motives and to this day, the only footage that exists of it on the internet (other than the short trailer) is some work prints that a student has given as a part of a university project.

      Manuel Mateo
      I agree with most of what you are saying. Part 1 was expertly (or perhaps accidentally) crafted to be a franchise bedrock. It set the moral standard of the series. Jonathan gets called boring by impatient tasteless plebs who want every character to be an overwritten mess of flaws (#notall), but Jonathan is the perfect Jojo. However Jonathan is only the perfect Jojo because Dio is the perfect Jojo villain. Their rivalry and how it develops is Jojo's Bizarre Adventure in its most distilled form, a battle betwern good and evil and through these battles each gets stronger until one overcomes the other.
      My favorite aspect of Phantom Blood is how Jonathan and Dio keep getting the upperhand over eachother. From Dio kissing Erina, to Jonathan beating Dio into submission (at least that's what Jonathan thinks), to Dio poisoning Jonathan's father, to Jonathan informing the police, to Dio becoming a vampire, ecetera. Both have this begruding respect for one another, but both want to overcome their fates and be free of eachother (but tragically can't). Jonathan's journey (episodes 4-7 of the anime, which Snakerer dismisses as boring) is great, because its a story of how Jonathan's physical strength and discipline are being tested. Dio becoming a vampire gave him a clear upperhand, but Jonathan had to earn the power to face Dio, which couldn't have been brushed over with a montage. We, the readers/audience had to experience it as well.
      Not to mention the excellent pacing. We get the core plot and key characters in the first three episodes, but to keep it fresh Araki introduced Hamon and Zeppeli, and Jonathan's relationship with them was expanded in the central chunk of PB. In the Joestar Manor fight, we get to see Jonathan be a hero in the face of an overwhelming enemy. Learning Dio is still alive and the fact that Jonathan barely survived the encounter makes for a triumphant feeling in us when Jonathan not only starts to learn Hamon, but starts going up against horrors comprable to vampire Dio.
      I could go on, I especially love the Bruford fight and talk about that in length, or how awesome it was when Jonathan did the most brilliant villain takedown in the franchise's history (setting his fist on fire to fight Dio's flash freeze? So simple it's genius). I'll just close my thoughts by saying that no matter what part I'm reading, I always think back to Jonathan and Dio, and how their rivalry sent a shockwave down generations, and even universes. It's a short story, but it nails a hero's journey with fun shonen battles and memorable characters in a nice tight package. What's not to love?

      @Hope Bagel a bit late but I'd say your kind of correct. To get the full context of the start of part 2, episodes 1 to 3 and the episodes 8 and 9 are important. Technically William Zeppelis arc is not needed to know as Ceasar explains it anyways .
      I'd say half of phantom blood is needed for set up for part 2, as all you need to really know in context is the mask,and speed wagon.
      Dio has very little relevance to part 2 other then a name drop and the context of his relationship with the joestars matters mostly just in part 3 where Dios actions in part 3 are the most relevant to later parts.
      The odd thing is I'd say part one is more important to part two, but because of how removed the events of part 2 are to the rest of the parts the events in part 1 tend to only matter in passing in part 3. Due to part 3 events being the catalyst for the other parts and the phasing out of hamon for stands part 1 and 2 take a back seat when it comes to ongoing narrative.

    I could undestand people beginning JoJo's with Part 2, but I feel a big part of the appeal of Part 3 comes from knowing Dio's Part 1 story. Because without it, he is the plainest villain to ever exist in a series. He is totally just a background character. Sure he is kinda scary with some of the scenes he appears in before his final battle. But he is absent for most of the part and its honestly all fine as long as you know him and his backstory and his motivations from Part 1. So... yeah. I guess at least watch a recap or something.

    All I've ever seen of this game has been utterly bizarre, anyway interesting to see you're also into JoJo. In terms of Phantom Blood itself it is among the weakest of the part, not particularly through any fault of its own, it's just that the parts succeeding it are so good, though the current state of JoJolion is leaving me a little mixed. I wonder if there's going to be another JoJo game in the near future, hopefully an RPG or, in my weird fever dream of an idea, Lego JoJo.

      The Insane Penguin Lego Jojo would be solid just watch dio explode into Lego.

    Despite all the criticisms - all valid, don't get me wrong - I rather like Phantom Blood, and still think Jonathan is my favorite JoJo. His simple character was endearing, in a way. He was more archetype than true character; a member of the nobility who is actually Noble, in contrast to many of his aristocratic peers, who cannot live up to the standards of the Gentleman. This is why I think Speedwagon pledged himself to Jonathan: the latter wasn't fake like every other aristocrat Speedwagon knew, and it made Speedwagon genuinely believe in ideals he thought killed long ago by his hard life.
    Or maybe I'm reading way too much into this, and just want to justify my own affection for the first JoJo part I was introduced to. I still think Jonathan is a character I find more interesting than other JoJos, with the obvious exception of Joseph. I always found the others kind of boring, and less interesting than the characters they surrounded themselves with.

    Honestly, I wouldn't say to SKIP part one... But I WOULD say to watch it after watching part 2 at least, maybe even part three, and then go back to part 2 and then back to part 1, which sounds kinda weird but meh.
    Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I think Phantom Blood has it's merits but works FAR better as a tale than an actual story, like stuff Speedwagon would tell kids around a campfire, the legend of Jonathan's struggle with Dio.
    It's also kinda essential for context in later seasons, but on it's own it doesn't really stand up at all, it just works far better as a prequel to me.

    • @Tehsnakerer
      @Tehsnakerer  6 лет назад +2

      I'm not accusing you of misintenpreting what I said but my words were essentially to "skip it if bored" because what comes later is an improvement. I've watched through part 1 more than once and I find an ironic entertainment in it. I will disagree that it's essential for later seasons contexts though, those later parts provide all needed context, there's very little that watching part 1 will grant you that you can't get from later parts themselves. Dio ignores a lot of his vampire powers, his relationship with Jonathan is a bit different but pretty self explanatory (and not really that useful, him disliking his lineage is pretty readily apparent and obvious why, his vampire powers are basically ignored outside of allowing him to use The World without great difficulty and why he's relegated to the indoors during daytime)
