The Punt Gun was used for commercial duck hunting. It'd be loaded up on a small boat (called a "punt"), load it up with like a pound of birdshot pellets and they'd sneak up on a flock of waterfowl. Then a normal gun would be used to scare the birds into flying up and this cannon would kill and entire flock in one shot, then they'd collect all the birds. It was so effective that it had to be banned from duck hunting bc there was a real possibility it'd make the wild ducks go extinct in places 😬
Fun fact the punt gun was used for hunting birds Edit Mainly waterfowl and is a muzzleloading shotgun that might better categorized as artillery and we used that to hunt f$&king ducks
Punt Guns were put on the back of boats, and taken out into marshland. Then, an ordinary gun would scare up a flock of birds, and the Punt Gun would then turn said flock of birds into a fine red mist.
Flechettes are no joke. They used them in Vietnam and they terrified the VietCong. Whenever the trees started talking, they'd fire a cannon filled with flechettes and the trees went quiet. Lol
You are the first reaction to notice the same thing I did when he did the buckshot... you can see a 5 foot circle shadow appear where it hits. Yes, this is a small cannon, a 1 pounder to be exact. With 700-800 pounds of recoil from a 150 pound gun, the "equal but opposite" rule tells me the ball is being kicked out by thousands of pounds of force.
"You would actually be ok, you can see it went through the seats"... the driver and shotgun both need new pants, and lottery tickets. I would have loved if he tried the engine block next.
I am beginning to wonder if this guy is related to Cassius Marcelus Clay, simply because he has this gun. You know it is almost as if it is his "home defense cannon". I bet he would also agree with the statement that "This is standard behavior of a Kentuckian."
Punt guns were popular in the 20's and 30's and used commercially for waterfowl hunting. They were attacked to a long boat similar to a canoe, the gunner would paddle out toward a flock of geese or similar and at around 25-30 shoot said flock of birds. These birds were sold on the commercial market. Thankfully punt guns were outlawed for use on waterfowl, as they were decimating waterfowl populations. They are found now only in Museums, and some are in private hands for experimentation and target shooting to see just how much damage they would do. I've got a 1.75-inch punt gun that I inherited from my grand dad, He never used it on waterfowl as they had already been outlawed for that purpose. Just something he picked up at some point. If it a beautifully made gun reminiscent of a old English shotgun and it is clearly a blast to shoot.
Everyone's already pointing out that the punt gun was used to hunt ducks, so I'm gonna point out a fun fact about that wax slug. Wax slugs are actually a Great Depression invention and were actually used in hunting. People couldn't afford to buy real lead slugs to use for deer hunting, so they'd take birdshot and lead fragments and glue them together into a slug with wax. It was less effective than the real thing, but as you could see it would get the job done.
As an expert, I can confidently say that it's called a "Punt" gun because it punts you several feet back, and its used for hunting TRexes that hide behind sauropods. Or 3 elephants at the same time. Source: Dr. IMadeItTheFuckUp, PhD.
@@OldManReacts yeah it was made to hunt ducks, it later had to be banned because it would take out an entire flocks of ducks all at once leading to a massive depopulation.
to make a point about punt guns, strangely enough, you don't blame the americans for creating... you blame the british... no really its a british thing

The rowboats they used for this type of commercial duck hunting was called a punt, hence the name.
Correction. A lot of ducks like hundreds of them.
AKA muzzleloading flak gun
Some boats had 3+ of these guns mounted side by side as well. That's wiiiiild to think about.
20:30 No we have some idea of how damaging canon was.
Turns out the weak link in the truck's armor is field artillery.
Or naval guns
Punt Guns were put on the back of boats, and taken out into marshland.
Then, an ordinary gun would scare up a flock of birds, and the Punt Gun would then turn said flock of birds into a fine red mist.
Not mist, that would be counterproductive. it would rain birds, though.

Ah yes, the M50 Ontos. AKA "The Thing".
Such a ridiculous grunts and crafts project that it could only have been thought up by farmers and Marines.
The trees didn't go quiet, they went Bye-bye...
Something tells me Kentucky Ballistics lost his marbles long ago, and we love him for it.
Hey, I think I saw some of my lost marbles there....Oh, well, never mind. That's more than I was going to use them for anyway.

I'm just watching it and I need new pants.
@@OldManReacts I wish he had brought this along that day he did modern bullet proof glass... I want to see if 1 pound of lead would be stopped.

*insert "What the hell is even that!?" meme.
I can just imagine The Fat Electrician, Nick and Scott standing on an Ontos, firing it, and hearing, "She be kicking!!"
The Ontos used recoiless rifles. Nah, what they would be hearing is Adam from BHS saying “got back blast?” Lmao.

A space marine would have a field day whit this gun
He'd be like "Hey Adeptus Mechanicus give this thing a magazine and a speed loader!" >:D
This gun is in Tremors IV...used to kill a Graboid...well, attempted to. 🤣
Missed with the first shot, nailed the target on the second, and disabled before the third.
You missed! With a *cannon!*
Pretty sure that armored car is handgun proof and nothing more. Still impressive.
You should watch the video where he actually shouldered fired it.
Wait what? What video was that in? Or are you just pulling our legs?
Watch the first video of his about the punt gun! It is hilarious! Also he has a Garage Channel too! Kentucky Customs!
The punt gun is for duck hunting with cheat codes turned on.
He's had that punt gun for nearly a year now. you should check out some of his other punt gun videos.
This is the kind of shotgun the emperor keeps for home defense.
The Punt "Gun" is a "Gun" in appearance only... It is rightfully a cannon
is kentucky really such a state of uncharted wilderness like in the video?
You have clearly never seen Tremors 4.
I'm just impressed at the area it hit. Those guys in the front still would have been fine, minus needing new pants.
What your daily conceal carry?
Scott : field artilliry
Remember when we hunted ducks using muzzle-loaded artillery, fired out of a f**king John boat!?
Pepperidge Farm remembers
"Why does he do things like this?"
A question for the ages.

I suspect the armored should in rather massive air quotes
That’s probably the biggest duck gun you’ll ever see
should someone tell him that it was made to hunt birds
it was made to hunt a what now?
@@OldManReacts yeah it was made to hunt ducks, it later had to be banned because it would take out an entire flocks of ducks all at once leading to a massive depopulation.
@@OldManReactsya it put some duck species into the endangered list s they band it from hunting no lie.
Players, please replace your divots.
Yea it would be cool to see the armored car restored, but I could only imagine how that would cost.
