    Excited to see this iteration of the Blue Eagles. Sort of fun to be the underdogs coming in, but am confident that we will be able to spring some surprises. Nothing we can do about the dearth of offensive weapons, I think the focus of this year's team will be on defense because they have the personnel to be aggressive and disruptive. Their bigs now are quicker and you can see that they work very hard on PNR D, blocking out, and position defense. Their forwards and guards will be the lynchpins of perimeter pressure. I hope they can create a lot of offense out of disruptive defense. And it seems the guys are more united and more motivated to prove doubters wrong. OBF!

      100% agree, especially on your point regarding defense generating offense! From how they played in Taiwan, they will make use of a lot of presses, traps, and switching on multiple coverages. We will see how effective it will be especially against bigger teams
      Btw, we are big fans of your channel ♥️

      @@bolerosph Thanks!! Love your takes as well, agree that you can never count out a Tab Baldwin coached team. I guess the skills and strategy are kinda set, the players just have to overcome the physicality. The UP guards are built like NFL running backs for example, remains to be seen how our perimeter guys perform against physically mature opponents. Maybe use the mantra they employed in the finals of S80 when they were determined not to be outphysicalled by the Archers from the get go, for a full season.

    Key takeaways from Ateneo’s Championship run in Taiwan.
    1. Chemistry has improved, they play at a faster pace, less horns actions. Still an emphasis to generate a lot of threes through zoom actions, dribble handoffs.
    2. Bahay and Espinosa don’t seem to play well together. Its understandable as they’re both floor generals who need the ball to be most effective. Espinosa and Nieto play better together off the bench, as Nieto is efficient on spot up 3’s
    3. Mason’s departure really opened the door for Andrew Bongo. I expect Bongo to step up this season, he has come a long way.
    4. Espina and Reyes are newfound gems for Ateneo.

    • @bolerosph
      @bolerosph  3 месяца назад

      I don't think we'll see a lot of Bahay and Espinosa together given the size disadvantage on defense. Also, you are correct. They both need the ball in their hands
      Agree with the rest of your points. The faster pace will be key for them. They need to generate easier baskets because the classic Tab Baldwin halfcourt sets will not work, as proven by their Filoil games - Gab

    Agree with your list and here's my projected depth chart:
    C Porter, Ong, Balogun
    PF Bongo, Lazaro, Edu, Reyes
    SF Koon, Tuano, Espina
    SG Quitevis, Nieto, Gamber, Asoro
    PG Bahay, Espinosa
    I don't expect this team to challenge for a championship but, after what I observed from that Taiwan stint, a 4th seed slot in the final 4 may be within reach. I love the improvements shown by guys like Bongo, Tuano, Lazaro and Espinosa. If there's one thing coach Tab and his staff can hang their hats on, it's their ability to actually develop players and not over rely on recruiting or "poaching" ready-made stars from other schools or abroad to form a competitive team. The proof is in the pudding. Guys like Asistio, Andrade and even Isaac Go were not highly recruited and last guys off the bench types when they started, but ended up as starters, main rotation players, and eventually pros after their years with the team. Hopefully coach Tab and staff can continue to work their magic with this iteration of the Blue Eagles.

    • @bolerosph
      @bolerosph  3 месяца назад

      Agree. Coach Tab and his staff have consistently churned out pro-ready players over the years. And yes, tama ka. A lot of these players weren't even blue chip or highly touted recruits
      We just really have to be patient as fans also - Gab

    Really excited to see Espinosa this season. Maganda nilaro nya sa Filoil. Losing that Starting 5 spot is okay dahil he will be relieved of the pressure given to him when he was the main PG. Bongo, Porter and Tuano I think will play a pivotal role for ADMU. Pag nag click yang tatlong yan. Kakabahan mga teams fighting for 3rd and 4th spot.
    Great Show Sam, Gab and Maui! Sana lahatin nyo ng teams sa UAAP. 🍻🙏❤️

    Bongo and Tuano I really expect them to have a major step up this season, I hope Bahay will live up to the hype, and we Coach Tab is known for slowing the pace and relying on half court sets for majority of the game, now I'm happy that he's trying to make ADMU a team who can rely on pace to generate offense which is a big positive sign.

    • @bolerosph
      @bolerosph  3 месяца назад +1

      Agree! I said after Filoil that they have to pick up the pace in order to generate more offense and easier baskets. I'm also happy that Coach Tab has adjusted

    Hi Guys! I generally agree with your picks for this Ateneo Blue Eagle team. Allow me to add a few of my comments.
    1) Bongo and Tuano were the two players who showed this pre-season the biggest improvement. They are both aggressive offensively and in rebounding and this should help overall the performance of the team.
    2) I always thought Espinosa was under-appreciated last season. Yes, he is small; but he was one of the few players to take the shot. He will be one of the best point guards coming off the bench.
    3) My single disagreement is with your assessment of Kyle Gamber. I haven't seen much improvement as he keeps making turnovers whenever defended. I consider him a bust.
    4) There is some hope for Ateneo with their defensive performance during the Taiwan tournament. Yes, this was against inferior opponents (including UE); so it would be curious to see how they play in their first game of Season 87, which is likely against the UP Fighting Maroons.
    5) Maybe Koon read about the sudden proliferation of the bank shot free throw in the KBL season 2023-2024. Majority of the Korean players are shooting this way and have improved their accuracy, If Koon proves it works for him, others may follow.

    • @bolerosph
      @bolerosph  3 месяца назад

      Agree with Espinosa. He is finally playing a role best suited for him.
      In Taiwan, it was not only the defensive performance but also the offense that was shocking. They weren't running any of those plays during Filoil. All of their sets were designed to give as much space as possible and opportunities to shoot threes. They have quickened their pace also - Gab

    so, is the preseason photo shoot a good indication of players who will make the team? if so, tama kayo kay Sam Reyes, Asoro, although I saw Adam there as well. I actually had Adam making the team because he can shoot the 3 and is pretty wide-bodied. pwedeng makibanggan sa loob.

      There were more than 16 players in that photoshoot so I don't think that's a good indication. Even in the recent Taiwan tournament, they had more than 16 players. I think it's a good indication of who's in the pool of potential players to make the roster though - Gab
