Whatever you do, be sure to research it thoroughly for your personal needs, your type of vehicle and the roof weight of your vehicle.

I am 5’1”
You can stuff the excess cord into the pouch on the upper hook on each hullavator unit. The pouch has a small Velcro flap and does it good job at keeping the excess cord out of the way.

I am getting a thule kayak rack installed on my crosstrek tomorrow. I have a 12'2" Pungo120 that weighs 50 lbs. Fingers crossed that it works as easily as you made it look!!
Be sure to read directions, ask for a demonstration from the business that installs it, and don’t force anything, it is easy if you know how it works. I hope it works for you, too!
Learnt how to tie it from your video
Great! It’s so important to learn how to tie boats correctly to the car/rack. Check out other videos to learn the knots, like the daisy chain I use on the front to easily handle extra length of rope. Public Library has great knot books.
My daughter's mom had a double set of these. She bought the first on sale + another discount for signing my as a REI member. The second was a return with missing parts. I am an engineer so replacing those parts was simple.
The hullivators work well IF you read the instructions. Both Mike and Jeff insisted that they knew how to use them and both broke them.
Mike broke one set by grabbing the handle, ignoring the lock and instead of raising it, pulled it away from the Jeep. After I, again, instructed them, Jeff grabbed the hand-lock, released the hand lock and pushed it up, damaging the lock.
I am a good teacher and go 9into details and why these details are important, BUT, when the student thinks that they know everything, they tune you out and do amazing amounts of damage.
READ THE FREAKING INSTRUCTION BOOK!!!!!!~!!
A tip we learned over the years wit hthe hullavator straps. If you locate the cam buckle down at the lower cradle, the pad on that cradle has a velcro tab you can open and shove all of the extra strap into it like a pocket.

Great demo, Karen! Just got two Hullavators for our Hurricane Pacer 16.5 footers on our Chevy Tahoe. I'm trying to like them, but the instructions and packaging was the worst- parts not shrink wrapped and lettered, wrong instructions and missing steps. Interesting that you adjusted the upper cradles with the adjuster knob (like the instructions say) but if I assembled correctly, the upper cradle cap screws are torqued same as lower cradles, which prevents the upper cradles from sliding. Okay, so I locked mine in to fit our kayaks. As for loading/unloading, not a problem for two of us, but I'm still trying out tricks to make this doable by one for our set-up - weight, length of cockpit, height of Tahoe and roof rack. Very awkward lifting our kayaks to near shoulder height to rest in the cradles. Found a way to save our knees and not strike a curling pose to release the handles by doing one side at a time and pulling up a little while standing. Next dilemma is how to hold handles and push our kayaks over top. I'm literally using my head (head butt!) but I may try your step ladder idea, even though I was hoping to leave it behind with these over-priced racks. These are more wobbly than our Hull-a-Ports, so I have to use bow and stern tie-downs for safety (per instructions). Wish I had tried these before buying. For us, so far, a folding kayak trailer would answer our prayers for ease of use and time savings.
So sorry they aren’t working for you. Yes, they are high priced! But it’s working for me . I’m 5’ and it just barely works for me to reach, therefore a step stool. An old milk crate works for me to keep sponge/bailer/ropes etc and then step on. Yes, we considered a trailer. I hope you figure it out. Did you buy at REI? Check return policy.
We always use a bow and stern tie. Safety is important to me. Glad you are, too.

loading, unloading and strapping down a kayak on a roof isnt easy task, this by far makes it so much easier.

This is great! Thanks so much for the demo. I’m currently using an inflatable but would love to switch to a regular kayak. This would make it possible!! Do you have a little trolley to get it down to the water from the car?
No, at this time I am able to carry my kayak on my shoulder that far. That could change in the future and then I would need to decide what to do about that.

My wife and I are getting ready to purchase the Thule Hullivator system for our minivan.
We also have Hurricane Kayaks.
Both are the 116. Mine is the same green as yours and hers is the teal blue. She also has a Skimmer 116 sit on top.
Any issues with the Hullivator set up?

Great! It’s so important to tie boats correctly! There are better videos than mine out there for learning different knots, etc. I’m so glad you found it useful!
If you haven't made the purchase yet, see if you can try before you buy, especially with a car similar in height to your own. Less of a problem if you will always use two people, otherwise your height, strength, wingspan, and your vehicle and roof rack height can make or break your ease of use. IMHO.
Buy a used light kayak and use car ramps to add height so you can lift into place!
Very fiddly, but handy if that assistance is needed.
This enables me to load the boat without assistance.

what bars do you have and how long are they please.
We have Timberline racks that go on perpendicular to the car installed racks. We have one set of bars and a different set for the canoes we take. They come in various lengths. We have Timberline Towers. The Jracks are Yakima. The Hullavator is Thule.
It is best to ask a professional who knows what is best for your particular vehicle.
Does the hullavator come with the 2 arms for $900 !?! Or just 1 please

@@JJRutolo They are not round. We have round bars for the canoes and we switch them out for the flat bars for the Hullavator and kayak.
hullavators dent kayaks where the hull touches...do not buy!@!!
Hm. We have used it for several years on five different kayaks, including composite. No dents.
@@KarenandBradStoriesNFlight I meant a heavier kayak at 65 lbs. Anyhow check your kayak manuals. Most of them say to not transport a kayak with hull on the supports. They will say lay the kayak sides on the supports.
If you have a really heavy kayak, a trailer may be the better option.

Price must have gone up since we purchased ours, but yes, it is VERY expensive. We saved for it. We don't spend much money on other things, movies, restaurants, vacations, etc so for us it made sense because it allows me to put the kayak up by myself if my husband isn't around.
Then don’t buy it just because they can afford it and you can’t
