    How did you manage to ground the antenna?

    Cool video, I'm thinking about the cool tech. Oh your bump stop for the spare is a little short .

      Chris Hunt thank you, that’s not a bad option from what I hear. With my new wheels it’s definitely too short. I’ll have a dedicated tire carrier soon to solve the issue.

    I’m guessing your setup doesn’t have optimal performance because I don’t see where you established a ground plane.

    I like the antenna routing you came up with👍

    • @AmericanJeeper
      @AmericanJeeper  6 лет назад

      Rumrunner Adventures thank you! It’s not perfect, but the best and easiest route for me. With the JK you could run it up the roll bar and hid things with the padding, but the JL is a little trickier! 🇺🇸

    Just a heads up that your sound effects (intro) and some spliced in audio is significantly louder than your whispers of sweet nothings .

    I can't find an antenna mount anywhere for my JL. I don't know if the JK mounts are compatible.

    Don’t understand why you made a bracket in the Mopar hinge reinforcement, I used the hole in it and works outstanding.. The hole in it is all you need.

    • @AmericanJeeper
      @AmericanJeeper  6 лет назад

      Mark Darnell that stands to reason, but the base I had was too big for that hole and needed a more shallow mount, so I improvised. Glad it worked for you as intended!

    • @markdarnell2792
      @markdarnell2792 6 лет назад +1

      American Jeeper I had to order a longer antenna mount to fit the hole because the thickness of the hole, also couldn’t get a great ground off of the tailgate had to run a ground off the rear side innerpanel out to underneath the mount to get solid ground.. really enjoy your soft spoken videos, keep them a coming.

      Just a hoop or two, but worth it for how clean it looks and well it functions I am sure. I appreciate the compliments and you watching, and will definitely keep it up. Is there anything you are after specifically content-wise? I have a few things in the hopper but always want to hear suggestions.

      American Jeeper I bought my Rubi on March 1st. Been modding it ever since. Have Skyjacker 4” lift and 3/4” front and 1/2” rear spring spacers. Total lift from stock 5” with 37’s. I had RC 2.5” spacer lift it was ok but very pleased with new set up. To answer your question I really enjoy trail riding vids. Not many mods out for the Rubi inside or out that I don’t already have.

      @AmericanJeeper  6 лет назад

      Mark Darnell it sounds like you have really put some work into your JL, and I bet it sits really nice with that lift. More trail vids to come soon 🇺🇸

    Bad antenna choice, bad mounting position choice, it will work, but it will not work well. Rock on bro

    • @AmericanJeeper
      @AmericanJeeper  5 лет назад

      Jack son I am sure there are better setups, but I’ve used that same antenna for years in multiple Jeeps and it has worked reasonably well. What setup do you prefer?

    • @jackson4861
      @jackson4861 5 лет назад

      American Jeeper For your particular scenario that’s probably the best options, all I said was, it wouldn’t work well. If you think it’s working reasonably well, then you don’t know what well is. Well is…75 to 100 miles.

    • @AmericanJeeper
      @AmericanJeeper  5 лет назад

      Jack son that makes sense. For my purposes, there is little need for that range but I am always interested in how to improve.

      @@AmericanJeeper The other commenter is quite the critic, however, most Jeep drivers will NOT be inclined to mount a higher gain antenna on a better ground plane, say on the hood for 'reasonable performance'. Your setup is fine for your intended purpose. I'm in the process of installing an HF radio setup in my Jeep including an 8 lb. motorized antenna. Thanks for your presentation.

      JasonPalmer everyone has a right to their opinion and I appreciate the open feedback. It sounds like you are working on a nice setup!

    Good job on the video. While i prefer a more permanent mounting solution, i understand what you mean about the antenna being too tall for most garages.

    • @AmericanJeeper
      @AmericanJeeper  6 лет назад +1

      JK southwest appreciate it. I wouldn’t mind running my antenna all the time, but should have built with 9’ garage doors 🇺🇸

    Be careful hanging the mic off the rear view mirror,,, it’s going to swing around and crack your windshield. I seen it happen

    • @AmericanJeeper
      @AmericanJeeper  6 лет назад +1

      MUDTRAIL thank you for the heads up, and I wouldn’t expect that. I loop it around the back of the mirror to hang towards the front and it doesn’t dangle far. The spiral cord grips pretty well, too. I can’t stand the noise when it bounces around but that’s wild it would crack a windshield. Appreciate you watching BTW!

    FYI, the amount of vibration caused by that "mount" is going to make that radio worthless in a hurry.

    • @AmericanJeeper
      @AmericanJeeper  5 лет назад

      Nun Ya thank you for your insight. I have used my CB countless times since this installation and it has performed quite well. There is a little vibration or interference. Did you have a poor experience with a similar set up?

    • @NunYa953
      @NunYa953 5 лет назад +1

      @@AmericanJeeper
      No. I've been a CB nerd for 20 years. The solder joints are all going to break causing all kinds of problems. The pots inside are going to vibrate out of adjustment causing your transmit and receive to get out of wack. I'm also an avid Jeep guy and understand that it's not an easy solution finding a good place to mount a radio in a Jeep but having a radio with problems is the same as not having one at all.

    • @AmericanJeeper
      @AmericanJeeper  5 лет назад

      Nun Ya thanks for sharing! That bracket is all one piece. Actually, now that I am running that roof top tent, I need to find a new spot for my CB antenna. What do you think, any suggestions?

    • @NunYa953
      @NunYa953 5 лет назад +1

      @@AmericanJeeper
      I used to mount in the back as well just because it's easier but for my last 4 Jeeps I switched to putting it on the front driver's side. They sell a flat "strap" or "plate mount that fits between the gap on the hood and top of the body. Yes, drilling is required. I also use a "whip" style antenna. Some people don't like that cause it can get hung up on a tree or something on a narrow trail but I'm all about performance. The shorter the cable is between the antenna and the radio makes a HUGE difference. You you also want to length to be in a multiple of 9. So 9 feet or if you need longer just to 18 feet. It has to do with the length of the radio wave in the CB band. I also despise the cigarette lighter power hookup. I hardwire the radio in the fuse box. I also have mine hooked up so it will turn on without having to turn the ignition or accessory mode on. That's personal preference.

    • @AmericanJeeper
      @AmericanJeeper  5 лет назад

      Nun Ya that’d exactly where I was thinking and I have already drilled quite a few holes in this rig, so what’s a few more. I believe my cable now is 18 ft., but I’ll double check that. Also I think hard wiring is a good idea. I have the factory six switches and there is an extra accessory and hot wire. Thank you!
