I'm calling it required due to the time limit. Kofize made a video where he turned off the timer, and he was able to get this score without the stuff in the trash can. But he got every other item. 4 minutes just isn't enough time for that.

I dont know if this helps anything at all, but i figured out that you can get a second mandarin peel from inside the trash can by rolling into the back of the trash can. but in order to get back behind it you have to go under the dresser though. quick dashing under the dresser from the side where the ironing board is seems to be the safest way to go under it while larger
That's interesting. I've gotten the second peel before, but I always got stuck trying to get back out. It's nice you found a safer way. I have my doubts that 19cm9mm is possible, but the second peel could make 19cm8mm easier. If someone were to get both peels, they could probably be a lot less thorough with small items.
I'm not so great at it myself, and it varies between games (KDR/WLKR). But yeah, you can't just keep boosting without eventually "huffing" (getting tired). It's tricky to know how long you can do it and then stop for a bit so you don't huff. The real pro speedrunners rarely huff, but most of them have had a lot of practice.
Eh, for better or worse a lot of them are. Just do your best, pay attention to what works (and what doesn't), and try to do a little bit better than last time.
I think there is another mm to be had somewhere. Maybe picking up a bit of the smaller stuff at the bginning like the ants will get you over the line? What about the piece of wood at the left end of the katana?
I've only recently got myself a gaming laptop after years off from gaming and always loved beautiful katamari so this game is definitely top of my list now. I'm playing it to death. It's great to see such good records set (by you), something to aspire to ThumbsOfSteel. Now if I could only master Dash!

Probably not. My gut tells me this is the maximum diameter, but it's impossible to say for sure. New strategies are discovered all the time.
