Single phase induction motor is not self started because the rotor get the clockwise torque then immediately get anti-clockwise torque in a AC cycle due to alternating magnetic effect. So the motor can't be self rotate. By boosting the rotating torque in a specific direction, the motor can be rotated. This can be possible by adding extra auxiliary winding or shading ring or capacitor.

Sir single phase motor is not self starting because the force of upper conductor of the rotor ,and lower conductors of the rotor is cancels each other as a result rotor not experiences any torque.

Single phase unable to create phase difference and therefore various methods like split phase is used and therefore it runs like a two phase motor. 😊

Single phase induction motor is not self starting because its rotor is move to one side during first half of AC and then move in opposite side in second half of AC and we know that AC change its direction very quickly so the rotor of the single phase induction motor will vibrate to its mean position and will not start
To start the single phase induction motor we use Auxiliary winding which is used to start the single phase motor
