Well the point is moot anyway because according TO that calendar, Jesus was born somewhere between 6 and 4 BC so even Christ came BEFORE Christ. Look it up.🤷♂️
Actually the founder of the Christian era is Dionysius the Humble (born in today Romania who worked as a secretary for the Pope in the 6th century). He's the one who proposed the Christ's birth as a reference for counting years and did the math for setting up the chronology. Of course, this chronology was gradually adopted through the rest of the world (first in Italy, then in France, then in England) and took about 1 millennium to become universal. What the author of the video talks about is a different thing: the Pope Gregory adjusted the structure of the year by adding an additional day every four years thus creating the leap year. He did that to compensate the fact that the civil year was a few hours shorter than the astronomical year. But he did not interfere with the way years counted.
You are correct in this. The Gregorian calendar was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582. He corrected the Julian calendar's errors, creating a more accurate system. Christopher Clavius and Joseph Scaliger helped with the reform.
I don't want to sound like a know-it-all, but Neil got it wrong... the AD usage started in early 8th century England by the Venerable Bede, a Catholic monk in Jarrow England in AD 731. He is credited with using "Anno Domini"... "in the year of our Lord" and "BC"... "Before Christ" dates based on the (estimated) year Christ was born. What Neil is talking about is establishing the exact calendar (how many days are in a year).. and that happened in Rome in 1582 (wasn't accepted in England until 1752, and still is not accepted in the Orthodox Christian world, hence their Christmas and Easter are 2 weeks later).
@@digiorno1142 "Before Christ" is in English. The later term, "Anno Domini", is in Latin. It seems odd to 1. Use different languages 2. Use the older language for the newer period.

He just wish to point to a better One that we have an impossible time understanding without a lot of help. "Eating" that One is the help over the impossible this world is to us.
