He's the one who proposed the Christ's birth as a reference for counting years and did the math for setting up the chronology. Of course, this chronology was gradually adopted through the rest of the world (first in Italy, then in France, then in England) and took about 1 millennium to become universal. What the author of the video talks about is a different thing: the Pope Gregory adjusted the structure of the year by adding an additional day every four years thus creating the leap year. He did that to compensate the fact that the civil year was a few hours shorter than the astronomical year. But he did not interfere with the way years counted.
