i saw this movie many times... but i cried with her like when i saw that movie first time.....
I agree that was an excellent reaction video. She has a good heart indeed and so perceptive and full of empathy as well, which makes her reaction videos so great to watch.
Here's a break that she can take with a fantastic comedy from about the same time period i.e. the early 90s - "Cool Runnings". It is not the usual, run-of-the-mill slapstick type of comedy, but one of those rare movies that you remember for its excellence and its positivity. And it is based on actual events.
And if she wants to see a more serious movie, "Rain Man" would be a great choice.
It warms my heart that she didn't rejoice when the warden shot himself.
Dasha, I am sorry you took the death of Brooks so hard. It breaks even the toughest of us.

Calling this movie “Escape From Shawshank Prison” is like calling Star Wars Episode V, “Darth Is Luke’s Dad”
It's an unfortunate problem of the Russian language. With some languages things get lost in translation, but in Russian too much gets added in translation. For example the movie "The Usual Suspects" in Russian is called "The Secret Villain".

And it entirely misses the point. The movie is about the “redemption” of Ellis Redding.
Maybe it's about the redemption of the warden. He does the only good deed he is capable of, making the ultimate sacrifice to rid the world of his evil presence. The only good Samuel Norton is a dead Samuel Norton.

“The Green Mile” is usually next, another Stephen King novel and same director as The Shawshank Redemption, plus Tom Hanks stars in it!
I absolutely love this movie and never knew Stephen King wrote it after all these years.

@SlickRicHelicopter THAT'S one of the parts that hits me so hard ALSO. I deal with a lot of people who commit suicide while in jail or prisons. I'm an international prisoner advocate for OVER 35 years. I deal with every level of the system from my juveys TO my people on Death Row. I can tell you one thing, it doesn't get any easier with time. It's very hard to go through when you get that phone call from a prison or family member telling you that your client has committed suicide. That's the reason why I ALMOST NEVER turn my phone off. Since there's three different time zones here and others globally. I make sure that my people can reach me whenever they need to. The ONLY times my phone is turned off is when I am at a wake OR at a funeral. Many people don't understand when it comes to lawyers, paralegals, prisoner advocates, and so many others who work in the other legal community. We really don't take the usual holidays off that other people do. When it comes to holidays such as Thanksgiving but especially Christmas. THAT IS actually are busiest times when it comes to self harm incidents and suicides. People feel a lot of depression, anxiety, psychotic breaks. Many people inside can't deal with the separation from their family more about those times of year. I'm pretty sure that you're aware of with Kalief Browder because his casemade the news nationally. HE was one of "my kids" for almost the whole time that he was inside. When I lost my Kalief~that absolutely took me down to a level I've never been at before in all these decades. He literally broke my heart into pieces. He is one of "my kids" that I love and miss and think about to this day. I had to pull back from my advocacy work because I could not function for a little over a month. Even after all the of the deaths by old age, violence, suicides and through executions. I had never stopped advocating until I lost Kalief. His death came with the heels of me losing an innocent man on death row..ALSO it was right around the time of.a suicide of a woman's case I had spent over a decade on. We'd managed to get her OFF of Death Row decades ago. It was about a week prior when she had shot herself in the head. THEN I lost my Kalief and I pretty much lost my mind~I could no longer focus. I was literally sick for a month with all that was going on. Between not being able to sleep, intense headaches, hand trimmers, and vomiting~the stress was really getting to me. People have to understand that when all these things come back to back. Especially when it comes to death row cases and some of them in multiple states of running back to back. These symptoms along advocates and others are par for the course. But this time it was just really bad for me after I lost him. I realized I was going to be no good for anybody else until I was able to pull myself back together. So for the first time in over 35 years, I had to fall back and collect myself. This movie affects me because not only do I deal with guilty people, but I also deal with innocent people in the system. I understand where Brooks is coming from, because I work with an advocacy group specifically for what we call long-timers. These are people who have done at least 20 years or more, many of them are disabled now and no threat to the public. They go through the same emotions and disorientation as he did since the world has changed so much. Some of these people have been in for almost 40 years, they have no idea how to even use the cell phone because IT JUST DIDN'T EXIST BACK THEN. They have to learn how to navigate through a brand new world with things such as ATM machines, microwaves, computers, credit cards WITH THE CHIIPS IN THEM, escalators, and many other things that just didn't exist. It seems like such a simple thing for us, but in many ways it's a scary thing for someone who hasn't been around for 40 or in some cases 50 years if they got locked up and they were 16. There's a lot of issues of almost panic, when they stand on escalator and all of a sudden it begins to move underneath their feet. Brooks in a lot of ways is one of my favorite characters in this movie. In my advocacy I have to say I do love dealing with the elderly population. Not just because they deserve to be released because they serve so much more than their actual time. But because I love to see the joy that some of them have on their faces sometimes at discovering new things when they come out. ❤️
Just imagine it though - back then social security for OAPs was barely existent for many.
For ex convict OAPs it would be completely non existent, no choice but to work until his body gave out and then starve/freeze to death with no money to carry on.
Barbaric.
The weird thing about the guy who played brooks is that he lived almost 20 years after the movie was made and even then he already looked very old
Once Brooks is paroled and he's riding on the bus to the half-way house, notice him gripping the metal seat grip so hard due to his nervousness. A very small "action," but so revealing and telling.
What a wonderful reaction! You wear your emotions on your sleeve, which is very touching and amazing to watch. Seeing your reactions to these movies, makes us feel as though we were watching them again for the first time, and feeling those same emotions. Plus, I have to say that it is very enjoyable watching how intelligent you are and how quick you pick up on things, like guessing that the rock hammer was hidden in the bible when the warden first had Andy's cell searched. Not many people guess that, and it becomes a big reveal in the end when the warden opens Andy's bible and sees the hiding place for the rock hammer. I always look forward to your reactions and can't wait for the next one!

I am dumbfounded they call this "Escape from Shawshank Prison" in Russian. They're blowing the entire third act in the title!! Unbelieveable.
Yeah they took the meaning from Redemption and translated it wrongly into Escaping. It's like calling Return Of The Jedi The Defeat Of The Space Nazis...lol
Yeah I think it's a mistake, but the movie isn't based on the evasion of Andy. I think it not remove the emotions of the movie and there's not a huge suspense in it. So it's basically not so stupid, it not ruin the film as you think.
Yeah, I'm confused on why they don't just call it Shawshank.
@@fafenel Yes, I agree. It's as much Red's story as it is Andy's. I think Red had the greater redemption arc.
The people in charge of the translation
had probably already seen 1979's
"Escape From Alcatraz" & realized
that this was the same basic idea,
just tweaked a bit, sort of contrived
&, also, "...Alcatraz" was based on a true story.
In Brazil this movie is called Um sonho de liberdade, or A dream of freedom.
As hope is central theme to the movie it should have been called "Uma esperanca de liberdade".
Nice name - I never really got the name Shawshank Redemption.
I never really saw that Andy had anything to redeem but for being a distant husband, and to be fair that makes his wife the transgressor for not divorcing him first rather than shacking up with a random guy (which ironically got her dead anyways).
@@mnomadvfx When you harm others unjustly you lose a piece of yourself and you have to redeem yourself through atonement. Redemption can also mean when things are taken from you unjustly and you win back what was wrongfully taken. It's the perfect word because it can work both ways. If you haven't seen it before you might think Andy is guilty and will redeem himself through his actions in prison. It turns out he is innocent, but the life that was stolen from him is redeemed with his victory in the end. It probably also has a deeper spiritual meaning too, because life can be so screwed up that it doesn't seem like life should even exist, but the victory over evil can be so sweet that it redeems the concept of existence overall.
@@JWar-- I think the redemption is for Red. Rednwas on the same path as Brooks. Andy saved him and help him redeem himself. Hope is a good thing...

Brooks death crushes me every time. He was so lonely, so disconnected.
To Brooks, it would be a totally alien world, filled with things he only saw in comic books.
To think when Brooks went to prison in 1905, there were only dirt roads for horses and wagons. The Wright brothers hadn't invented the airplane. Everyone used gas lamps, no phones, and no running water.
By the time Brooks was released, two world wars had happened. There were paved roads. Everyone had a car, TV, and radio in their house. Jet planes soared overhead, and the space race had just begun.
Shawshank Redemption is a masterpiece. It is regarded as one of the greatest films of all time by film critics. I'm happy that you enjoyed it!! 😀
Not just film critics, the general audience too which is rare.
@@FrancoisDressler It's actually even the highest rated movie of all time among audiences, at least according to IMDb. It's the go-to-movie to reccommend to anyone and be sure that he is going to like it.
@@FrancoisDressler Not film critics at all, really. The critics have considered this to be a very good, but not great film - e.g. it ranks 72nd on the American Film Institute’s top 100 films. Shawshank Redemption is a viewer favorite, not a critics favorite.

It scores very high in viewer reviews on Netflix, IMDb, etc., but has never scored equally high among film critics.
"Stand By Me" is another amazing Stephen King adaptation from the same set of short stories as this one.
I've seen this movie 20 times, but you had me absolutely bawling like a kid when you thought Andy had maybe killed himself. I was so wrecked by your sadness and empathy, and then so elated when you realized he had escaped...Uhhg, I need a nap.
This film is absolutely timeless, every other line is a legendary quote. I could listen to Morgan Freeman read a phone book

I hear ya... In 1996 there was a movie called "A Time to Kill", which was a courtroom movie about the trial of a father (Sam Jackson) who is accused of killing his daughter's rapist. Great movie. Great suspense... Unless you watched it in french, where they literally changed the name of the film to "NON-GUILTY". Holy spoilers... :/
Yeah the name in my language of this movie is "Rita Hayworth - A key to escape" Kinda ambiguous but still could guess what's going to happen

In German, the title is simply "The Condemned"/"The Sentenced" which is a rare example of the German version of a title not being completely crap. That being said, I prefer to watch movies in the original, because the dubbing is usually not to my taste...
If only more people could see the world through your eyes, this world would be a better place.
Escaping was a good enough trick, but cleaning out the warden's bank accounts was the cherry on top.

In Shawshank prison, hope is such a dangerous thing. Andy made hope the best of things. Cause you can get busy living, or get busy dying. Such a classic line.
I absolutely love that you watch this movie. But I was also so scared for her because I knew that it was going to be an emotional roller coaster that she was going into. People who don't understand how prison truly works, especially in the old days. This is a hard movie to watch for them. The fact that she has such a gentle heart in a way made me want to sit next to her as she watches this. I already knew ahead of time that some of these scenes would affect her deeply. I'm happy that you watch this and understood all of what was going on even though it is in many ways a dark movie to watch. There really not a lot of steady feelings of an ongoing middle ground when it comes to this movie. There is either the feelings for the viewer of jubilation or the feelings of impending doom and also of tragedy. This is one of my favorite movies of all time even though I've never read the book and I am a Stephen King fan. I tried to get into the book but somehow it just didn't engage me. But when I saw the movie it absolutely pulled me into the characters and I was deeply affected. People often say that the book version is better than the movie. I'm an avid reader but in this case I believe that the movie out did the book.

Fun bit of information, the picture of Red when he was a young man (the photo in his file when he goes up for his parole hearing) was actually a picture of Morgan Freeman's son. He also appeared in the crowd of people when the new prisoners arrived. I know they are father and son but it is still astounding to me how similar the two look.
Amazing reaction. You are so perceptive and intelligent. Figuring out little details, such as knowing the rock hammer would be hidden in the bible. And your empathy and sorrow is so moving in a way I can’t describe. And your knowledge of English as a 2nd language is fantastic for such a young lady. Keep up the good work.
The most shocking thing in this movie is the warden actually posting Andy's letters.
Not really, it's a minimal effort and expense for him to keep a vastly more useful resource happy.
More likely he just brought them home and had his wife mail them the next day anyway.
Or just had one of the guards do it on the way home in exchange for a favourable time shift/position in the prison.
Notice that he is completely deadpan/political about explaining why the state Senate was very unlikely to approve funds for his library expansion - that is until he actually looks at the expression on Andy's face and realises how much it means to him, at which point he offers to post the letters.
That realisation of how much it means to Andy is part of the leverage he uses on him to keep working after murdering his chance of freedom.
This is the movie I typically list as my favorite movie of all time. It's hard to pick a number one, but this movie has everything.
In case you didn't know this: this movie is considered by many to be the best movie ever made. It regularly has the highest ranking on IMDB, for example.
What makes it all the more a feel good story is Andy spent 20 years in prison and didn't look like he aged a day.
@@ckobo84 If you look closely, you can see where Andy got gray hairs around his temples and crow's feet by his eyes as he aged in prison. Also, he started wearing glasses.

I love to watch others experience this wonderful film. My daughter was diagnosed with flHCC at the age of 23. An ultra rare form of liver cancer. A 9cm tumor was removed from her liver. She endured 3 major surgeries and a 4th to clean up the mess from type first 3. Her scans have now been clear for about 2.5 years. We never lost hope. Partly because of this movie.
Rita Hayworth, a beautiful actress of the 1940's. She was very famous, especially during WWII.

The Shawshank Redemption is one of the best movies of all time. It has to be up on the top 5 best. By one of the best authors of all time, Stephen King.
And this happens to be one of the best Reaction videos to this movie.
That emotional ride from when she thinks Tim Robbins killed himself to when she realizes he escaped.
There are so many little things foreshadowing the ending that are easy to miss. My favorite one is Red describing Andy at the start of the movie
'He strolled like a man in a park like he didn't have a care in the world."
Why did he walk like that? Here's what Red says after Andy's escape.
"Turns out Andy's favorite hobby was toting his wall out in the exercise yard one handful at a time."
Those quotes are separated by a few hours but put them together and it's pure genius. Great job by the writer.

I’m starting to think the warden is arguably the most hated villain in cinema. From what I’ve witnessed in person to what I’ve seen from reactors, the level of disgust is unreal.
He is also one of the most realistic villains in any movie. He just calmly excerts his power over people without any hesitation and remorse. He thinks of himself as a pious man, and all the convicted are just beneath him.
Younger folks would probably say Umbridge from Harry Potter is a worse villain, but they haven’t experienced the real world yet…

The best movie of all time.
This film is ranked #1 in the IMDB list of all time greatest movies. It still brings tears to my eyes. I'm so glad that you had the chance to experience it.

If i had rewatched this movie alone the sad parts would have made me a little sad, but watching them with you and seeing your heart break, seeing your compassion and empathy, i cried like a little girl. This is what makes the differance between a good youtube reactor and a bad one. You are very much a good one and this is why the copyright claims or strikes are unfair. I agree. I get why RUclips has to limit what people can show for legal reasons but it's such a shame that these powerful human reactions can't be shared fully and freely.
In France, the title for the novel and the film was "The Escapees" so we were spoiled too.
So stupid. Why you would want to spoil the film for someone who is about to watch it is beyond me.

The actor who played "Red," Morgan Freeman, is one of America's best actors today. He's been in so many amazing movies. One that isn't as difficult to watch as this movie, is called "Driving Miss Daisy," where he plays the driver for a wealthy woman, set around the same time frame as this movie. Racism and segregation at the time were quite real back then, but it's a truly moving movie, and in fact, it won 4 Academy Awards. I think you might really like it. I can't say enough how much I enjoy your reactions. You're a very perceptive and sweet young lady.
This film has 2 happy endings. First when Andy escapes, second when they meet again.

As much as you loved watching Shawshank to where you want "...everyone to watch it!" that is how I feel about how fans of "Reaction Videos" need to watch your reaction videos, your reactions, your insight, your summation are all as close to perfect as I've seen.

I can see you really are emotionally involved with the movies you watch with us. The Brooks part really got to you. Same with "Good Will Hunting". You 're very compassionate in these heavy moments, but just try to remember... It's only a movie. But with great acting talent. Really enjoy your channel. Thumbs up!

Hey Dasha. @ 22:30 When Andy said "He's second cousin to Harvey the rabbit", Andy was referring to a 1950 movie that you would enjoy called "Harvey" starring Jimmy Stewart a very famous actor, and it won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for Josephine Hull who plays Jimmy's older sister. She was magnificent in it! It's a light comedy I'm sure you'll like and afterward you will get the little joke Andy was referring to. Granted Harvey is an older movie but I assure you there is a LOT of cinema gold in those old movies of the 30s, 40s, 50s on up! ✌️😎

Another great Stephen King Classic film that no body reacts to is The Dead Zone. It is one of the Stephen King adaptions that Stephen King actually loves.
Ii first watched your reaction to The Green Mile. That one was great, and this one didn't disappoint at all. You definitely wear your heart on your sleeve. The Shawshank Redemption is a movie that I watch anytime I see it on TV.
I first saw this movie 22 years ago. It's still in my top 3 favorite movies...
Brook's death is one of the hardest moments in cinema, I was so not ready for it my first time. I don't know how you could be.

Watching this: On my left was an example of the darkness, cruelty and sadness of the world. On my right, the sweetness, beauty, and compassion as the world should be. Dear, sweet Dasha don't ever change. If you were ever harmed by this uncaring world it would be a crime against humanity.
I've seen videos on RUclips. The tree where Andy hid his message and money for Red no longer exists. It got struck by lightning, and was eventually torn down.
As an American enjoying a great movie watching a Russian doing the the same it gives me pause. Why are we enemies? We Should not be enemies. Our governments suck. Imagine the power we would have as allies.

I think this may have been your best reaction video, Dasha. Thank you. My father passed away 20 years ago, but I had given him "The Shawshank Redemption" a couple of years earlier, and he loved this movie. It's always been a favorite of mine and though I have seen it many, many times, it still makes me cry. Now, you must react to "The Green Mile", another Stephen King story, from the same director as Shawshank. I promise you, it too will be on your list of favorite movies! Peace.

If you visit the United states. This movie was filmed at Mansfield reformatory in Ohio. They have tours. You can see the wardens office, the safe in the wall, the Brooks was here carved into the wood. Really worth a visit.

This is a great movie and one of my all time favorites. I can watch it many times over and never get bored. I love how the story comes full circle on the subject of Hope. In the beginning, Red tells Andy that hope is a dangerous thing. A man has no use for it in Shawshank. Then, at the end, in the letter to Red from Andy... "Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies."
Really love how invested you get in the story such a great movie and its crazy still today some people still get convicted for a crime they didn't even do thankful we have stuff like the Innocence Project to lessen that mistake
Rita Hayworth is the actress in that movie she tossed her air just before he asked for her.
