I love how Soken brought back bits and pieces from old FF themes for battles in XVI. This is an orchestral version of Uematsu's classic FF bass line at the beginning of normal battles.

The boss I associate this with the most is the Akashic Dragon. Something about the sheer scale of that and the battle arena and all the destruction going on around me just did it for me.

The camera angles and effects when you pull off a perfect dodge counter spell were peak in that one, I want to go back into that fight so I can camera mode arcade mode

Whenever this theme came on, always on the edge of me seat.
This theme hits different when handicapped with the imperial infantry blade and put on an increased difficulty mod.

@@Antilurker77 but not for every boss fight. But as I have played through the story I can see battles where other theme were better suited for the atmosphere of the battle but still and yet this is my favorite boss theme from the game.
@@Antilurker77 It was the mini-boss theme in the demo, which is when this was uploaded. Now that the rest of the game is available and since they use it for some of the actual bosses as well, I suppose I can change it.

It's odd, but I enjoyed this theme more than the boss theme. Those drums and horns are really something else, especially once the classic FF theme kicks in.

Played the demo but man, so far this battle music is crafted to really give you not only the nostalgia feels but really makes you feel like you're fighting something that isn't going to be a pushover. Feeling at 2:00 is great after a successful dodge or attack, too!
Nothing in this demo will be as satisfying as hearing the old school Ff beat and defeating the Gigas with that big fricken wing of pheonix for the final hit, and watching the game go in slow motion then lets me know...

Y'know what I realized?
While the motif and overall direction of the song is different, there's a very similar feel to a major portion of another game's feel from 0:42 onward here.
Shadow of the Colossus - mainly with The Opened Way, but it works with some of the others too. While that one makes you *feel* like you're fighting a massive giant and winning, this one makes you feel like you're fighting something nearly as mighty.
And either way, it's a _powerful_ thing.
Beginning sounds like FFVIII’s battle theme. Soundtrack is great !

On the shoulder of giants doesn’t fit this fight. To fully enjoy the tune, you need to be fighting a tough boss while smacking it with everything you got.
NGL I never really enjoyed this theme. Just sounded like a 14 2.0 dungeon with a tiny bit more production value. Sokens got way better hits than this one for sure

I think it's great but if it's not especially impactful it's probably because it's, you know, the midboss theme. It's not supposed to hit that hard, that's reserved for serious bosses where you get tracks like "No Risk No Reward"

This theme kinda reminds me of OST in the Drake's Head and the Sanbreque motiff at 0:42, even tho its a bit different... maybe its just brain playing since we fight so many Imperials and Dragons with this song.
If anything, it's the official miniboss theme.
