  • I think I finally found a way to solve this mission effectively - it is still very hard and your missile avoidance maneuvers will be tested.
    Let me know if you found a better way to complete the mission.

    Just learned how to quick save. Dear god I don’t know how I almost completed this mission without it. Took me hours to get down to the last air target and get killed by an off bore sight missile 😔

    When I played this mission, there were npc wingmen who crossed the lake to deal with enemy fighters. All I had to do was fly along with the 3 anti-ship planes, pop up above the mountain range, and blast any radar source with an anti-radiation missile (AGM-126& AGM-88). After that, I just had to wait for Xray to slowly launch all of their cruise missiles at the enemy boats. I only had to take out 2 enemy planes while Xray was launching their cruise missiles, the rest were taken out by the other wingmen who went across the lake.

    • @kruger78
      @kruger78  2 года назад +5

      My wingmen were simply destroyed in most cases they went about on their own so I had them orbit the safe area instead until I sorted out the SAMs but, the good thing about it is that there are unlimited ways to complete the mission so you never get tired of playing over and over again :)

      RIP wingmen who crossed lake first... they never came back. I tried to stop them anyway.

    if i safe and die and load the safe point like in 12:20 The X-wings turn back to base and will stay there forever. I think it’s a bug or am I doing something wrong? I really need help I spent 7hours on this mission and keep failing:(
    because of that I only have one try in the mission (I can’t load because the mission is impossible after that)

    • @kruger78
      @kruger78  2 года назад +2

      Tradex, you are not doing anything wrong, the save feature has become buggy since the last few updates and if you load the mission, things become weird and I spotted several different oddities - check my mission tutorial with flying tanks, in this campaign, to see what I’m talking about. The mission you are trying to do is the most difficult mission I ever played and doing it on a single attempt is not impossible but very very difficult. I don’t think I was ever able to do it in a single take. When I recorded this, save feature was not perfect but less buggy. If you follow how I did the mission, you might succeed but you have to be patient and keep trying. I wish there was anything I can do more.

    I was able to do it by AGM 65's and AIM 120's only, probably why it took like 6 tries

    • @kruger78
      @kruger78  2 года назад

      I found GPS bombs to be the quickest and most effective way to destroy multiple targets and you can pack more of them. AGM 65 is my preferred ordnance but they didn’t cut it for me here.

    How do you see those triangles that mark the radar targets? I've been trying to make those appear and haven't figured out how. Thanks! Awesome video!!

    • @kruger78
      @kruger78  2 месяца назад +1

      @@jakobcoltmyre There are two things here, not sure which one you mean but I’ll explain both. Triangles mark GPS points that you’ve set on the map via the map or TGP. It will display the active GPS target or point. You should be able to see them in your HUD straight away and outside the hud if you bring the visor down.
      Radar targets are marked by diamonds and that option is activated on your ARAD display where you turn the HUD to ON. Mind you, in the older versions, radar targets were shown exactly which made it a bit too easy so they changed the radar signature to be a bit more vague and the mark will now hover above the target so you will still need to visually spot it. And it works also on radar seeking missiles. It will show all radar targets even if you don’t use ARAD.

    Didn’t even know you could save lmfao, I’m using the valve index pro so I have no idea how to save

    • @kruger78
      @kruger78  9 месяцев назад

      Well you can always save directly from the in-flight game menu via one of the MFDs but this can be difficult to doing a hurry. What you see me using is called a radial menu and it’s always a combination of trigger+grip and one more button. I believe it’s B button for Valve Index controllers but test it out. Holding trigger and grip and moving joystick around allows you to make some basic hand gestures too.

    Love that there is no tanker but there literally is a tanker that takes off in front of you. I guess they use that as the AWACS asset in VTOL as well though.

    How to aim that missile lock with looking like in 19:23?

    • @kruger78
      @kruger78  2 года назад +5

      Lauri, I think you are referring to the way I use my head to aim the AIRS IR missiles - go to your weapon storage system (on the MFD) and select AIM9 or AIRS missile and choose head for tracking. Then when you select those missiles, the reticle will no longer be in the middle of the screen but slaved to your head so you can aim planes and shoot when you get a lock.

    I've failed this mission so many times... I can't figure it out

    • @kruger78
      @kruger78  2 года назад +3

      Doug, its a very hard mission and I never managed to complete it without saving and now it appears that there is a bug after loading which means the mission is next to impossible. There are few key elements in my walkthrough that should help: early engagement with the squadron going for the x-wing, leaving your wing behind whilst destroying the radars and sam launchers around both bases and dodging the missiles by using Aim9 or AIRS if needed. I find that after that the mission becomes a bit more tame.

    Not sure if you'll see this, but I was curious if you have any advice for the Northern Strike mission? I was able to complete the mission in this video, but I can't do the Northern Strike one. I counted and there is like ~20 fighter jets + Boat launched SAM's. I don't even know if the F/A-26B can carry 20 missiles lol.

    • @kruger78
      @kruger78  8 месяцев назад

      Hey there Wyatt, of course I’ll see it. I didn’t post any videos for long time and I only recently got back into VTOL VR so I was re-doing some of the missions and campaigns just to get reacquainted and get the feeling back but I have been engaging with the community and respond to every comment. My point is, I just finished off the Departure mission and I need to tackle the Northern Assault. I’ll do it over the next few days, maybe even record it and post on RUclips as this is where I practically stopped recording the campaign anyway. You just gave me motivation to do it 😉
      Now, if you look through the videos on my channel, you will see that I have this mission recorded but in my language which is why it doesn’t pop up in the RUclips algorithm. It might give you some hints how to go about the mission. It was a tough mission and you have to be really quick in juggling air and ground targets. This might not be relevant because VTOL changed a lot in the last two years - some aspects are easier, others are harder. I’ll let you know how it goes and if the mission pops up on the channel, it’s thanks to you 😁 Just hit the notification button so you’ll be alerted if it does.

      @@wyattsawyer5063 I had a first go at the mission last night. Wow, its a different animal altogether. I’ll have to see how to approach it. There are so many planes and they use advanced missile avoidance tactics and I was completely overwhelmed and they kept dragging me towards the carrier and the coast. I think I’ll have to do something about that carrier quickly as I think there is a substantial wing coming off it.

    • @wyattsawyer5063
      @wyattsawyer5063 8 месяцев назад

      @@kruger78 Yeah, that's the same problem I was having. I think maybe some AGM's for the carrier, and strike it early on?

    • @kruger78
      @kruger78  8 месяцев назад

      @@wyattsawyer5063 That was exactly what I was thinking. Drop two 89s to follow a path as early as possible, if they get there before they take off. But I think the key is in the mission itself. Its CAP so the key is to identify and engage different groups of attackers by using wingmen. I was not able to use voice last night so that made it impossible to manage them so I’ll have to try that too.

    Just wanted to add this on. The AIRS T is not a heat seeking missile its infared. Which means flare cant distract the missiles. But if you want to use heat seeking missiles use the AIM 9 Heat seeking air to air

    • @kruger78
      @kruger78  2 года назад +5

      Heat-seeking is just a moniker for the infrared missile. They don’t detect heat at that distance but the infrared radiation emitted by a heat source hence, heat-seeking. AIRS-T is all round a better missile (with better Counter Measure detection) and as long as you’re not limited by budget, you won’t be using Aim9 instead of it.
      Check the VTOL definition:
      “The AIRS-T is a Advanced Short-Range heat-seeking Air-to-Air Missile (ASRAAM) developed mainly as an alternative to the aging AIM-9 Sidewinder. It boasts a number of improvements over the AIM-9; it boasts significantly stronger CM resistance (ability to better discern between flare countermeasures and an actual aircraft), acceleration speed, maneuverability, and overall effective range. It is generally superior in all regards to the AIM-9 and is a better option to utilize if cost and availability aren't immediate issues.”
