It's worth visiting just for Roar-O-Saurus. That little thing is one of the best airtime machines I've ridden. (The other ride I really like, beyond kiddie appeal, is their Splash Battle. The Polar Coaster was the perfect ultimate thrill ride for my kid when she was 6.)
Even though I live in PA and Knoebels is my home park, New England sounds like it has a ton of great classic parks with nice charm. I'll have to take a New England park/coaster trip!
If you ever get to visit! Canobie Lake is the best! Been going to this park since I was a kid, unfortunately because I and many others keep coming back the park tends to be very busy sometimes but extremely well maintained and clean. The author of this video has the rankings spot on!
It feels so weird seeing Funtown on here, I went there for years on end and loved the big 3 rides. They replaced the galaxy coaster for wild mouse which was a down grade imo. I know the park is doing well, especially since it's connected to splash town but it could really use a new star attraction.
I've lived in the area for 30 years now and am finally going to visit Six Flags New England for the first time this summer! Living near Canobie for the past decade and a half, I never prioritized SFNE highly because people keep talking it down, but it's got two bucket-list coasters, and a couple others I'm curious about. As the area's only BIG theme park, I guess I should give it a go. The ones I have been to, repeatedly, are Canobie, Lake Compounce and Story Land, which are all just nice places (and Water Country, which I guess doesn't count for purposes of this list--I am honestly not much of a water park aficionado but I am married to one). I want to rate Canobie and Compounce a tie--they've got different strengths. Compounce has higher highlights (Boulder Dash, Thunder Rapids, a better water park--they used to have that awesome skyride, but it's gone). Canobie is the more charming park overall and is better for families with young kids while also having some good thrill rides. Oh, and a really pretty amazing collection of game arcades. What park that size has multiple arcades? Canobie has, like, 5, in addition to the midway carny sorts of games which it has in abundance. I was looking forward to visiting Funtown Splashtown on a road trip through Maine a couple years back, but the weather got kind of cool and drippy and my companions who would have been mostly interested in the Splashtown aspect nixed it.
I’m partial to Lake Compounce because I worked there in 1999 and 2000, and it’s a really nice park. It was a lot different back then, and my second year there was when Boulderdash opened. I haven’t been there in years, but it’s 3 miles down the road from where I live so I drive past it occasionally and I’ve seen all the new rides they’ve been adding every year. I haven’t been to Six Flags since it used to be Riverside Park lol
I've only been to Lake Compounce and SFNE. When I was at Lake Compounce, Boulder Dash was actually running 2 trains, but Wildcat was only running 1, and a bunch of other rides were closed.
If Canobie were to go down the route of a spin shot, I think they'd maybe try something where half the seats rotated and half didn't since the park attracts a lot of families. Ultimately, I think they'd be better served going for a separate inverting flat. The park in New England I could see getting this is Six Flags New England. It's a cheap and marketable addition. And Scream has multiple towers.
Thank u so much for your vids. I live in New England and love water and theme parks. I gotta mention for everyone, quassy is really fun now for adults. And idk if it was the conductor that day but the little train ride went slow but then blew fast through the tunnels surprising my bf and I. Lol. Their water rides are def the best with small lines. The boulder dash in lake compounce was the best to me for years. But honestly, as of 2021, the boulder dash has gone so downhill. It's very jerky and in serious need of re-tracking. I remember it used to be fast and smooth. But twice recently it gave my bf and I headaches after such a long wait in line. It's a shame their star attraction is like that and I hope it'll be fixed.
2:35 - I went with my mother to that park when I was 5. We finished our day there with a ride on that ferris wheel. It was raining and no one else was there, but neither of us seemed to mind. It was a blast!
Atlantic beach park was great when I was a kid (late 90s/early 2000s) They would usually have 3-5 flat kiddie rides outside, plus the carousel and bumper cars inside. Also a big arcade, mini golf, and a lot of coin operated baby rides. They were never a big park, but it was a treat to go there every summer. They would also switch up the flat rides every year or two, so it was always exciting to see what would be there.
New England doesn't just love their indoor scramblers, they love their S&S Towers! Dragon's Descent, Starblaster, Scream, Downtime, Sasquatch, Double Shot, and Blast Off (yes, I included New York) are all within a few hours of each other.
I am planning a 10 day New England coaster road trip for when I graduate high school in 2023. The general idea is to ride all 45 roller coasters between Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine (this includes Mountain Coasters)
I had issues on that one with someone slow ahead of me. They let me go a second time when it happened the first time, so just bring that up if it happens.
i want to go to lake compounce to ride Boulder Dash but it doesnt seem like it has much else besides that, maybe when i go to SFGAdv i can quickly stop in on the way and get a half day ticket or something since its almost directly on the way there from where i am
I have only been to Six Flags New England, it was a semi spur of the moment visit, but I really enjoyed the place. Canobie Lake Park is on my radar for it's atmosphere. I do need to get my rear end up to Lake Compounce for Boulder Dash. While I didn't ride anything, Playland in Old Orchard Beach seemed like a nice little park.
The funny thing about Wicked Cyclone is that it's voted in the top three RMC made coasters since ot came out. And it's actually one of the smallest. They just have such great pacing on it and once it gets going through the day ( like any coasters usually) it gets better. And Superman is always great. Even with the extra restraints.
I live in old orchard beach so I’m around funtown and palace playland. A funtown season pass was the best 100 dollars I’ve ever spent. I’ve went around 20+ times this summer. The only complaint I have are the prices of food and water. Palace playland is a good once and a whole thing to do while you have the whole downtown old orchard during your time there.
Good list…but I’d place Lake Compounce, Quassy, and Canobie over Six Flags. Six Flags has some good rides and a nice winter attraction, but is usually overcrowded and filled with riff-raff and troublemakers in the Summer. And yes, it’s too corporate and themed too heavily on superheros. Us locals miss the original Riverside…especially the Saturday night car races when the speedway was still there. Most missed former amusement park is Mountain Park that was on Mt. Tom in Holyoke Mass. Nice shaded old school park with Coney Island-like attractions and an incredible wooden roller coaster…the Mountain Flyer. I know it’s not a true amusement park, but you could possibly include the “Big E” which runs for two weeks every September. More than a traveling carnival due to the sheer size of the midway and all the other attractions of the fair.
I don’t agree that funtown allows re rides. It is 3 years later, but I recently went to funtown and tried to re ride Excalibur and the staff crew rejected me. Later that day with a different crew, they also rejected me. I was sitting in the back row and only the front row had a line
That is true….they were planning a park in Stonington Ct. I believe it was met with resistance from the locals. Then Premier ended up buying Six Flags and retaining that name…and ended up rebranding Riverside Park.
Ugh it breaks my heart that The Haunted Graveyard had to leave Lake Compounce. We’re at Quassy now though. Much smaller for now. We’ll see what the next few years bring.
The other reason why I put six flags lower on the list is because they're Platinum pass is not as good as Lake compounds Platinum pass the 2022 get you into all of Palace entertainment parts in the United State's and New England is home to two amusement parks one water park and one aquarium. Not to mention splish splash in New York is also not too far away for a lot of people from Connecticut. And if you're feeling adventurous kennywood's only about 4 to 5 hours away from Connecticut. So if you're balling on a budget Lake compounce or story lands Platinum pass is more worth it then six flags.
Yeah when you got 4 people you are buying tickets for and you have DVC dues because you do Orlando every two years you got to make choices 😂. I might do more 6 flags stuff when I have teenagers.
Oh man, those pictures of Atlantic Beach Park are so depressing. I visited when it had the kiddie coaster, and while not a great park, it at least felt full of life and a great spot to grab ice cream and a few rides before hitting the beach. Completely agree with the order of the list. The New England parks have such a quaint and classic feel that's different from most other parks out there.
I didn't realize Atlantic Beach Park lost the coaster when I finally made it there. But at least there was (the now defunct) Water Wizz water park across the street.
If this Covid stuff keeps happening im really gonna miss funtown. Me and my family went camping there a long time ago and got year passes and went every day for about the whole summer.
I am always thinking of ways to enhance that fun so the experience becomes physically mentally financially spiritually beneficial and rewarding. Example the roller coasters should include some kind of test to see how well a person may keep their composure under high intensity excitement. Like being able to write your name and address before the ride ends. I think would be a fun way to test one's eye hand coordination similar to astronauts and jet fighters. Equally as true all roller coasters today should automatically have an electronic system that is constantly scanning the track for weakness fractures rust and corrosion. And with today's technologies should be no problem to upgrade any and all other roller coasters which will maximize on safety so people may have extreme fun on every ride
@@CanobieCoaster It is and I know it will be effective in being able to improve upon one's overall functionality. However the safety precautions I mentioned which would be able to detect any weakness fractures rusting in corrosion within the entire track seem more important. Fortunately they can both be accomplished fast affective cost-efficient.
I agree as well! I remember as a teen being so happy that Riverside was going to become a Six Flags but now I’m just glad I got to experience it before hand! Only good to come of it imo was mind eraser and superman...although I liked batman too...now it doesn’t even look like the same park.
I lived down the roads from ocean beach it’s really nothing the rides are just very small kiddie riders like under 10. Don’t even remember the last time the waterslide was open. The arcade is awesome really outdated but they have a lot of classics give you alot nostalgia
You can just go to Six Flags NE. It has everything and more. Insane coasters and you'll spend the same amount or less. These are definitely charming old school types of amusement parks but I mean dam
I never visited either unfortunately. My parents wouldn't take me to Whalom since they thought it was run down. The only defunct New England parks I've been to are Six Gun City and Enchanted Forest. Both were awful.
I was wondering if anyone would mention my beloved Rocky Point... If you haven't already, I highly recommend watching "You Must Be This Tall"...a great feature-length documentary about the park
I have a core memory of seeing a big red button as a 4 year old, and hitting that big red button. That big red button was the Emergency Stop button on the raft ride at Story Land. I don't remember it, but I guess my dad got a lot of shit looks from the entire line that day, lmao. Took them half an hour to reset the ride. They were apparently cool about it. Funny enough I ended up as somewhat of an automation engineer, so....in hindsight, keep your emergency stops in smart places where small spaz children can't smack em.
It would be a nice fit for the park, but they haven't bothered paving a path to it and it has sat idle for 5 years. I suspect the park thought it was in better condition than it was.
It's a shame that Boulder Dash gives distant visitors such poor experiences, with long lines that move at a snail's pace. That does take away from the ride for travelers, causing us to under-rank it. I liked it a lot, but while Superman & Wicked Cyclone are in my top 10, Boulder Dash is far out of my top 50. I only made it to 3 NE parks in June 2019, and I actually liked Quassy more than Lake Compounce. I know I'm being unfair to LC, but it was a bad experience, the only time that I couldn't wait to leave a park. I hurried to SFNE before their 4pm closing, and it felt so awesome walking into that park. I walked onto Superman in the front row. Quite appropriately, Superman saved the day. I totally loved my 2+ days at SFNE, one of my all-time favorite parks.
I agree Boulder Dash can be a bit problematic for distant travelers. Since they only run one train, it's impossible to get a lot of laps per day in the peak season. And in the summer, it's near impossible to get night rides. The best rides on Boulder Dash are on Friday and Sunday nights for Haunted Graveyard when the line usually isn't awful. It also needs to be ridden in the front row to experience its full potential. Other seats have worse air and a rougher ride.
Yeah, I did back row right after park opening, maybe first train of the day. Cold train, mostly empty, so it wasn't very rough, but not much airtime. Later, I waited out the huge line for a 2nd ride, and went for the front row, which was much better.
Boulder Dash also can take a bit to warm up, but when it's running fast the airtime up front is nuts. The gauge is if you get airtime before on the boulder camelback. If you do, it's warmed up.
I love Quassy dearly. The operators let me ride WW 14 times in a row without getting out when I was 9 or 10. It just was fun and has a great atmosphere with an INSANE restriction that SFDK is lucky not to have. Easily put it higher than Knobels in my park rankings
Honestly I would have put six flags over on the list not much lower but I don't like the corporate feel of six flags and I personally think they have too much roller coasters. Yes, I said they have too many roller coasters. The last time I was there I brought very young kids and I felt like there wasn't enough to do for them whereas Lake compounce, canopy and storyland were great considering the age of my kids maybe when I have teenagers my opinion will change but as of right now six flags isn't even on my consider to go list.
You send me a link to the music you used as the background music I will love to record it on my 3DS and blasted that occasional parties with my self and my plushie yeah I'm 11
@@CanobieCoaster I only did storyland once, and I was very young. Been to Santa's Village at least twenty times. I live in Vegas now. Gonna take my kids to NH soon and do both parks.
@@CanobieCoaster Now if only Canobie could upgrade its psychodrome to that level. I also think it would be cool if Santa's Village got something like that, they could call it the Yankee Swap and have the music be either Wizards in Winter or Carol of the Bells by Trans-Siberian Orchestra
nah you lost me a six flags being number 1 when i went the park was a absolute dumpster trash everywhere rides were lack luster terrible atmosphere not to mention little care for safety all that alone pushes it to easily number 7 and that's generous

Quassy. It has the charm of an old theme park. And it may not have the thrills, but it has the same charm as Knoebels.

Lake Compounce has added quite a few modern rides and given a whole facelift to the water park.

any thoughts on canobie getting a s&s spin shot since they removed their major thrilling flat ride equinox
If Canobie were to go down the route of a spin shot, I think they'd maybe try something where half the seats rotated and half didn't since the park attracts a lot of families. Ultimately, I think they'd be better served going for a separate inverting flat.

That sounds like a neat way to add reridability as long as articles are secure.
@@CanobieCoaster It is and I know it will be effective in being able to improve upon one's overall functionality. However the safety precautions I mentioned which would be able to detect any weakness fractures rusting in corrosion within the entire track seem more important. Fortunately they can both be accomplished fast affective cost-efficient.
i thought at first u were gonna be biased by putting canobie at #2 but now i can see why, for what the park is they rly couldnt have done much better
Canobie's height restriction and land really caps them, but the park is so charming. It jus can't match SFNE's coasters.
@@CanobieCoaster agreed
First, also quassy #1
It's not quite 1, but Quassy is great for what it is!
Nah lake compounce is number 1
UPDATE (11/26/23): the dormant Kersplash at edaville family theme park is now officially cancelled as the ride has just recently been torn down
Yes, I saw it was taken down.
@@CanobieCoaster not surprised by that BTW.
My top 3 favorite rides in New England are Excalibur, untamed, and wicked cyclone
Nice!
Polar Coaster was my first ever roller coaster
One of my firsts.
It is a shame that Salisbury Beach Mass closed down its Park. It would have made this list im sure!
I wish I could have made it there.
You didn’t mention the cork screw at canobie,
It's not a signature ride for me.
SFNE is definitely number one but all the other parks are more charming
I'd agree!
I agree as well! I remember as a teen being so happy that Riverside was going to become a Six Flags but now I’m just glad I got to experience it before hand! Only good to come of it imo was mind eraser and superman...although I liked batman too...now it doesn’t even look like the same park.
Canobie just has that European park feel
Sort of!
I lived down the roads from ocean beach it’s really nothing the rides are just very small kiddie riders like under 10. Don’t even remember the last time the waterslide was open. The arcade is awesome really outdated but they have a lot of classics give you alot nostalgia
I still wanted to ride the coaster to say I had been on all of them in New England.
How does a little park in Mass beat Six Flags for a Thomas area?
The park invested heavily in it.
Edaville main focus are trains and railroads, not so much Six Flags.
So sad that the funhouses and the ferris wheel are gone from york's wild animal kingdom
They removed them? Dang!
Maybe im underestimating Roar-O-Saurus here but.. really? better than at least one of superman, wicked cyclone and boulder dash?
Roar-o-saurus is the 4th best coaster in New England after those 3.
At story land I when on the bamboo thing like 11 times
I used to marathon that a lot when I was younger.
Why did I miss the video when it was live?
No worries!
@@CanobieCoaster Good!
This may be the first time I've ever heard anyone mention Six Flags New England and the words "Number One Park" in the same sentence.
While the park does have its warts, its overall a good park and the strongest in New England.
Airtime Thrills with the best one-two punch
Number one park if you love boomerangs.
You can just go to Six Flags NE. It has everything and more. Insane coasters and you'll spend the same amount or less. These are definitely charming old school types of amusement parks but I mean dam
Each park has their own advantages.
Canobie # 1 for kidde land and thrill rides plus clean and great scream fest
It's a great family park.
Did you ever get to visit Whalom Park or Rocky Point?
I never visited either unfortunately. My parents wouldn't take me to Whalom since they thought it was run down. The only defunct New England parks I've been to are Six Gun City and Enchanted Forest. Both were awful.
I was wondering if anyone would mention my beloved Rocky Point...
If you haven't already, I highly recommend watching "You Must Be This Tall"...a great feature-length documentary about the park
@@christopherdeguilio6375 Yes - seen it. It is good.
Oh my!
Wait, head on collisions aren't allowed in America?
They are banned by most parks.
@@CanobieCoaster Oh, its banned nowhere over here in the Netherlands
Good to know!
That first park looks sad
It was awful.
kersplash looks like it could be weird and crazy i love miler for that crazy profiling
It would be a nice fit for the park, but they haven't bothered paving a path to it and it has sat idle for 5 years. I suspect the park thought it was in better condition than it was.
Canobie Coaster i dont want it to get fully scrapped :( i hope they just leave it there as a monument to lost dreams
Until they need that land (Edaville has a ton of it), they'll probably just let it stand.
Hull Ma nantasket beach paragon park
I wish I could've experienced Paragon Park.
My mom grew up going to Paragon Park at Nantasket Beach! I do not remember getting there unless I was a very young kid.
I agree it feels corporate, but the park has a better atmosphere now than it did 10 years ago.
Quassy solos because I go there every year and my grandma refuses to ride everything except wooden warrior and for those reasons alone, it wins.
Nice!
You send me a link to the music you used as the background music I will love to record it on my 3DS and blasted that occasional parties with my self and my plushie yeah I'm 11
All music is listed in the description.
@@CanobieCoaster thx
I see y no one goes up there gosh it’s barely any parks worth going to.
The parks are mostly small but charming.
There is NOTHING correct in this comments.
There’s lots of parks, all great charming and worth the visit, and lots and lots of visitors.
@@liam-wg3gf if that’s y you go to amusement parks 🤷🏽♀️
Lake Compounce has 4 coasters
5- Boulder Dash, Wildcat, Phobia, Zoomerang, Kiddie Coaster
@@CanobieCoaster forgot the kiddie coaster
Best amusement park; Six Flags New England
Best theme park? Santa's Village
My main man; CANOBIE CANOBIE COOOOOOOOOOASTERRRRRRRRRR!!!!!
I think Story Land has nicer theming than Santa's Village, but both are very charming.
@@CanobieCoaster I only did storyland once, and I was very young. Been to Santa's Village at least twenty times. I live in Vegas now. Gonna take my kids to NH soon and do both parks.
I feel as though the Astrosphere is the best flat ride in New England with ELO
I agree it's probably the best flat ride in New England. Dragon's Descent or SkyScreamer are close behind.
I'll always advocate for more indoor themed flat rides.
Only the cool people watch canobie coaster😎
Looks like you're one of them.
Ocean beach is the best
Go on a warm late July day, warm August day or a warm early September day
I tried this year. Pretty much every ride needed multiple riders per row.
U said Thomas the tank at one point
Oh I forgot engine?
Thomas the Tank is the lesser known cousin of Gustav the Railway Gun.
Lake Compounce is a nice park. Even though Wildcat looks nice at the front of the park, it's a horrible wooden coaster in my opinion
I wish the retracking came out better.
@@CanobieCoaster it ended up just backfiring for them it seems like
nah you lost me a six flags being number 1 when i went the park was a absolute dumpster trash everywhere rides were lack luster terrible atmosphere not to mention little care for safety all that alone pushes it to easily number 7 and that's generous
I have never had a safety issue in my visits and have enjoyed them.
Six Flags New England looks underrated, come at me.
Everyone talks about their top 2 (and rightfully so), but the park does have more to offer.
