We have just moved and the new place has popcorn everywhere!...I painted it at first but soon realized that it still looks terrible. So I have removed it and skimmed in two of the smaller rooms... the mess was ridiculous...like cat litter everywhere!...today I have watched your videos..I am so happy to realize that I can now go at the rest without scraping the popcorn off. Many thanks for your help!😀

Hi. Really was confirming the way I am handling a popcorn ceiling that had been removed by inexperienced people that did a pretty good job except made a lot of gouges and also messed up the tape that runs along the top edge of the wall to the ceiling. Most all will need to be taped again because its gone in most areas. I let the ceiling dry a few days and sanding poled the entire home yesterday, then started skimming. (Gotta love the dust). Anyway, this is the same technique, (the technique you are using) I have used before and have begun on this job as well. Thanks for the video. I have now been reassured that I am going about this correctly.

#drywalltube I started watching your videos after my son bought an older house in 2017. It had wallpaper on every wall. We tore a wall out when we remodeled the kitchen and dining room. Though there are a lot of videos out there about drywall finishing and remodeling, I think yours are the best. Thanks for all of your help.

#DrywallTube Thanks I have a house full of popcorn ceilings and want to start perfecting this technique. I’m going to begin practicing on the basement ceilings the previous owner plastered but did a very messy job, and while not popcorn the surface is very ruff. It doesn’t need to be as perfect as the other two floors. These are very helpful and I want to avoid sanding.

Do you have a video on sanding and scraping popcorn off ceiling before skim coating

Do you recommend skim coating over a concrete popcorn ceiling in a condominium or using a quarter inch board and then uh doing joints on that which do you think is more clean looking and more economical

We scraped our popcorn ceilings this past weekend and it was hard but went well but left many imperfections where the scraper dug in a bit or screws at sheetrock joints weren't covered well because it wasnt necessary due to popcorn etc.
I sanded my ass off and my wife sheetrock mudded her ass off and it looks a million times better but still has enough imperfections to be frustrating.
Is it possible to skim coat areas of an entire ceiling rather than the whole ceiling? I dunno. Seems to be the only option to get a nice flat, smooth ceiling surface.
Thanks for your work and sharing!

Can I skimcoat wood panelling? Is it a good way of making old 60's thin basement wood panelling look new?

Hey Paul, a few weeks ago a huge oak tree fell on our guest house! (No guests there, lol!) The repairs are ongoing, and I asked our contractor if he knew of a texture guy or gal who might be able to skim coat the ugly popcorn ceilings in the kitchen and a couple of small bedrooms while the little house was undergoing repairs. He replied that the crown molding would have to come off because the mud would be much thicker. How much thickness would one coat of skim coat (or two if needed) add? And couldn't the crown molding just be reattached after the skim coating?

Loving these videos, Paul. Thank you for posting! We just bought our first condo and have started scraping the texture. Gotten it down to a fairly flat place and are ready to do 2 coats of skimming. If we want to keep them flat, without adding any texture, what are the next steps after the 2nd skim coat to get ready for painting?

hello! can you skim coat a non-painted popcorn celing? can you please share the steps? it would seem like you'd need to knock off the parts that will come off easily before you try to skim it.

#DrywallTube. So glad I subscribed! I've got 3300sqft of crows feet dating my house! I think this approach will save me a ton of time since. U might a drywall vacuum sander to take the feet down. Thinking I can lightly level them and come back with your skim technique. Awesome!!!

The freestanding tub upstairs allowed water to peel the ceiling paint below. This is a plaster ceiling and after scraping lots of loose paint off I now need to skim coat the plaster. I'm told that drywall mud won't work. Suggestions?

    Should I prime before skimming?

#drywaller is what you said? So my stepdad already scraped the popcorn ceiling and it pulled some of the paper into almost a fuzzy coating. Is that just 2 Skim coats to be ready to stomp?

    • @PaulPeck
      @PaulPeck  5 лет назад

Right on Roy!👍🏻 Yes, two skim coats over the frayed paper should be fine. Then a light sand and you’re golden to proceed with the stomp texture. Sounds like you’ve got this man! Thanks so much for watching and subscribing!😎 -Paul

I scraped the popcorn off the ceiling and hired someone to come in and finish off the ceiling and paint it. When the sun shines I see a variation which looks like uneven paint. I cannot upload a picture, but to me it looks like the paint is flashing”

My ceiling in the living room needs redone. Either the original drywall contractors were terrible OR the peak of the vaulted ceiling cracked from settling and an amateur bad skim coated and retectured it. It's bad. You can see where the corner and edge of the mud knife dug into the mud. There are large smooth areas along the peak. Whoever did it was really really bad. I'm no expert but I did my fair share of mudding and taping back in the day. Now I'm getting to old too be up on a ladder to fix that crap. Forget stilts lol. #Drywalltube
