    If you're looking for a chunky knit blanket tutorial, check out our flat-knitting technique - It's the easiest way to make a super chunky knit blanket!
    This tutorial will show you how to flat knit, it's easier and faster than the arm knit blankets. Plus, with the flat knit technique you can put your throw down, walk away, and come back later to finish. It's also not as taxing on your shoulders as the arm knit versions.
    You can finish an entire blanket in under two hours, a bed throw in an hour, or a lap throw in about 45 minutes.
    The yarn I'm working with in this video has been hand dyed and felted for durability, it's not raw roving, which will fall apart and shed everywhere if you knit a blanket with it.
    Want to learn a different chunky knitting pattern? Check out how to do a seed stitch here: • Video

    This tutorial was PERFECT! I have never knitted ANYTHING- But wanted to handcraft something special for my 73yr old mom- a giant 'hug' so to speak! I DID IT! Not only was this the first thing I have ever attempted to knit, I am Left-handed, and was easily able to switch hands and hand knit a chunky lap blanket-shawl for my mother!! This young woman is AMAZING! It took me only an hour from start to finish! Thank you so much! Would HIGHLY recommend this tutorial!!!! Everyone should try!

    Perfect, Easy to understand directions! If I think I'll pull up this video when I start just to make sure I'm doing correct and then again at the end where you cast off just to make sure I'm doing correct! Thanks for the information on which "yarn" not to purchase bc that had me concerned and also had never heard of the needle and felter matt I think you called it. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! The info on How many pounds is also something I needed! You're amazing and so fun to watch!

I will be giving this a try and following your channel. Looking forward to seeing more of your work. Thank you for sharing.

    I use to make these with my Grandmother when I was a little girl. Except we pulled the knits tighter We used old sheets and unused sewing material. If we had a lot of old towels and other materials we would make rag rugs either by knits or weaving...depends on look or shape we wanted

      Try the by hand method with small regular yarn. I do that in the store with a strand to see how it looks done up. Yes, it is not as finished, but it would let you see how you do. It is actually quite simple. I stopped knitting because of using 2 needles and I favor crochet because of being able to hold the weighted item. Her first long chain is similar to what crochet is. You can do it. There is chunky yarn you can practice on for confidence.

    I am making the blanket at this minute! It is so easy. I am succeeding. Tried under another person yesterday who leaves a loop at the end and you go back and pick it up when you pass through next time. That somehow confused me. Both my sister & I were trying and got frustrated. So I turned to your way today and was sooooo glad you use every loop & don't leave any behind for "next time". Already I have gotten so far that I buried a knot & joined 2 skeins together! Ahhhh! Progress! You might be my new favorite and yes I did SUBSCRIBE!

    • @colleengoldberg8774
      @colleengoldberg8774 6 лет назад

      How did you join them?! I'm stuck! I'm using Red Heart Irresistible acrylic/wool blend and ALL the videos I see join wool which isn't the same process as dealing with a blend :)

    • @janetnolle9955
      @janetnolle9955 6 лет назад +1

      To join the 2 skeins together you first have to have a knot near the end on each strand from the 2 skeins you are joining. That keeps the yarn/wool from unraveling. You then tie them together which makes a big knot since you are using such fat yarn. When I am making that big knot I leave enough tail on each strand so I have enough yarn/wool to weave in easily.

    Can you offer any advice about how dimensions/stiches for a king sized blanket? Also, I'm a total beginner - any advice if you need to switch to a new ball of yarn? Thanks so much! Thank you!

      Thank you Deborah!
      If you need to switch to a new ball of yarn, I would use a felter and mat like the one in my video. For a king size throw, for the end of the bed, you will want to cast on 32 stitches.

    I am a beginner so I appreciate your tips, thank you. Does hand felting to make the roving (spelling) strong over time?

    This is awesome...seems so easy to make! Would I need one skein to make the 30x40 throw?

    How much yarn do I buy for a 78X80 king size bed blanket with a 18" drop. At the prices I see I am wondering if it will cost a fortune. I love it though. Tutorial amazing

      Hi Niki, If you want the blanket blanket to cover the whole bed, you will need 13kgs. Send me a message on Etsy and we can chat prices! I also think a 100 x 40 inch throw works really well to lay across the end of a king size bed and you only need 5kgs for that size

    Thank you so much!! Much easier than the arm method!! I bought some cheaper yarn from Michael's and it sheds all over my grandchildren's clothes and the floor. Do you know another cheaper version of your Merino yarn? Thank You.

      Hi Dorthy, unfortunately I don't The trouble is that the felting process is time intensive so the yarn is expensive

      Hi Dorthy, I had same problem and a clerk suggested the Bernat Blanket Big yarn....I have made a few blankets using it same results super soft and machine washable...Only thing they don't keep many in-stock in the store

    I really want a chunky knit blanket but they're pretty expensive on etsy. Seems worth giving it a shot to try on my own since it looks fairly easy and if all else fails then maybe I'll buy one. Thanks!

    I am planning on making some chunky blankets a Christmas gifts for family this year and the color selection is outstanding. I have a quick question. Can you add colors together or is it best to be solid. It's so hard to choose just one color from y'alls website. Thanks.

      Hi Candace,
      No, I love the colors added together! A contrasting border is beautiful and stripes are super fun!
      You just have to join the ends, so would recommend purchasing a clover needle felter and mat!

    Love that technique and the blanket. Thank you for that tutorial. I would love to make two blankets. The first one I would like to have a bit of cable design...is that possible? And can I dye my own...thinking I would like an ombré effect...not sure how that comes through on a large loop blanket.

    • @broadwickfibers938
      @broadwickfibers938  6 лет назад

      Hi Laura, you are welcome! Yes, you can absolutley do a cable design. Let me know if you want me to send you through a pattern with your order!

    Not sure if first post went thru, I’ve used chennile yarn which is very soft. My sides look awful loose and I’m afraid it will come apart, any suggestions
