I rarely post comments but this is the second time I have posted on your series of lessons. I am an "ear" player so my musical theory is poor but it is really great to listen to your playing and learn the sounds, although I do stop and pause the lesson to at least try to fathom out the chords and intervals. Thanks so much for this lesson.
Why doesn't everyone have the bass notes?!? I get so lost in youtube lessons wondering where the beats are and what chord the notes go over. Those bass notes are everything!
Ross Harrell Dude he is not only telling you the root chord ( and therefore the bass notes) he is explaining exactly what bar every chord changes on and what type of arpeggios to play over those chords to bring out sexy flavours. Maybe you weren't really paying attention? This is a KILLER lesson. Make no mistake.
That's exactly what I'm saying, Martin. This lesson IS killer. We're saying the same thing- maybe read before you start arguing- we're saying the same thing.
He plays C9 which is an extension of C7. He says C7 which is the basic chord of the progression and then corrects what he said to match the C9 chord he played. C9 is also often used in place of C7.
He should play the chords exactly first in time and rythm, before explaining this very advance stuff. We need to know how long every chord is played right?
Herr Schnupke Are you kidding. He did the changes TWICE. Once in real time and once slow. Then as he breaks down the solo he explains EVERY change and appropriate arpeggio over top and what bar to play it on. He left no stone unturned. Maybe you should watch again and take notes. This is an amazing breakdown of jazz blues. You must've missed something.
best be-bop soloing lesson in years! so detailed, thank you!!
instaBlaster.
One of THE best, clearest and well taught/executed lessons on RUclips. Two thumbs up 👍🏾👍🏾

Jimmy is an amazing teacher!

Yeah yeah, I get it but are there really any money notes in jazz?

Nice playing great stuff , I'm really not confused now ...
This is great but I can't find the page for the PDF.
Great work jimmy
What was that classical word you used for notes a half step below the chord tones? Also great sounding SG.
He said "appoggiatura" :)
The link for tabs is no longer which is unfortunate.
It was great playing and I wanted to learn more as this is a new style to me.
Link is working for me, you'd just need to take a screenshot!
Great lesson,, and wow,, what a nice vintage axe,,, git specs please ?
dope
Great lesson, but when you go to the link for the written lesson, you don't see any notation, but tabs only.
REALLY NICE!!!
Killing. Just wish it was in notation and not just tabs, easier to "see" and employ musically. Great playing and phrasing too, keep it coming. Thx!
Where can I get the backing track
how is it c7 and/or c9 at the same time 2:22

What is an altered chord? It looks like it's a 7#9 but I can't tell.
any DOMINANT chord with an alteration to the 5 and/or 9. Eg. Eb7(b5#9) or Bb7(#5#9) or A7#9
damn that shit sounds good
Wow. This is scholarly stuff. You've captured everyone. I think you might like Grant Green the best though
:-}
Nice guitar😤
thank you!
This is hard? the first lesson I come across in long time I can't play? I will shred you
JIMMY PAGE AAAAAAH!
Jimmy page? what part? you shouldn't have to explain , I should just know it by now.
Danny Hood he looks like page

Damn I need to get high to break this down
Sounds better the slower version

Herr Schnupke steht in der pdf.
Matter of fact, thanks!
its a blues
many people expect players to know the chord changes to a blues
You should be able to hear those chord changes and know the progression off by heart before attempting to solo over it.
g7 alterted gm 2 f13 bla bla3 3rd of g.
way too complicated too follow
five people can play better than this, I guess
