The Eastman sounds like an actual “old” guitar. Hard to explain but it seems like guitars made back in the day will “age” into that special tone. I’ve got an SB-59GB....it sounds genuinely old, but powerful. (The SB59-V with the Lollar Imperials, even more so!). Always in tune.....(LP trick, when you string the unwound “G B E” strings, make sure the winds stack “up” the peg. Reduces angle over the nut...makes a difference!!). Stays in tune. Part of theEastman sound is, I believe, that the bridge posts, screw right into the wood, (really good wood), not into inserts, like an original 59 LP.
I got rid of all my guitars after getting an Eastman sb55 then got an sb59 last week. To me they’re custom shop level. I cannot believe how amazing they play and feel for the price
First of all, thanks for these really informative videos! Second, I am so, so impressed with Jack's playing! John is no slouch either, but Jack is something special. I really hope to hear you on an album soon, Jack. Thirdly, those Eastmans...what a steal! Guys, get China out of your minds and just try them for what they are. Fourthly...bye :)
Sounds so nice! I prefer the LP standard, maybe because I'm used to the sound. But the Eastman surprised me. I'd never heard one before or even knew much about them. For some reason I had it in my head they were one of the cheap Amazon brands. They look the best of all these aswell IMO.
The 59, the LP standard, the Eastman, and the Gretch sounded best, each quite unique, I wouldn't be able to say which one "is better" without trying them ^_^'. Thanks for doing this comparison video.
I own an Eastman SB59/v and it sounds about as close to an actual old '59 as you can get... closer even than a Custom Shop R9. The Eastmans just have this old wood, played-in feel and tone to them.
When Mark Agnesi worked for years at Norman's Rare Guitars, he was a very cool, down to earth guy..Now that he got his high position job with Gibson, He has gotten quite obnoxious, cocky, and much too sure of himself. That's a truthful fact. Period.
IMO, R9 Les Paul has the Balls. PRS has a smoothness & stratyness nice if that"s what you want. Knaggs..clear yet still ballsy. Standard Paul..just a little less refined. All the rest still very good but the R9 and Knaggs had the mojo.
Only just seen this, guys. (A bit late to the party!!) The Gibson '59 wins for me, but I have to say, the Eastman is a very close second and extremely impressive for the money. Superb video and great playing. Thank you. One question: what are Eastmans like for consistency and reliability?
@@Nikoo033 I bought an Eastman SB59 which I play more than my Gibson LP Standard and just bought the T386 thinline and they are unreal. What a hidden gem Eastman really is!
That Knaggs is killing it! I love all the other guitars as well, and have been looking for an Eastman SB for a while now, but having that range of dynamics, and rich tone the Knaggs have, all the way through low to high volume is sick! :D
Well it's hard to say which one sounded better, you got amazing sounds from every single one of them. Maybe the Eggle and the Vigier sounded a bit more modern. The Eastman was surprisingly nice. For the Les Paul thing obviously the Gibbies sounded the best, but I really liked what the Knaggs and the Schecter put on the table. Great video.
you left out the Heritage H150...core collection is amazing with bespoke handwound pups made in original factory in Kalamazoo. more dna origin than gibson cs made in nashville!
Gibson’s sounded best too me. All of them really nice though. Surprised by the schecter. Although I shouldn’t be . I’ve owned 2 of them in the past. Usually impressed with knaggs. But didn’t really care for this one over the others. But it’s all just a matter of choice. They are all fine guitars and I wouldn’t turn any of them away.
What is the correct signal path used bij John in th edirty shirley..Which pedals, Delay in de loop ? His settings...That setup sounds fenomenal and definitly some great playing to
I love Gibson Les Paul Guitars and all my 'heroes' played Les Pauls too but the PRS is superb and the guitar to buy - especially online without trying first - as their quality is incredibly consistent and uniform - unlike Gibson. I own a 594 myself - the Doublecut version because its more 'PRS' in body shape and I wanted it to be 'different' to a Les Paul 'clone' visually. There is something 'special' to Gibson's tone and if you find a great one, its worth buying. I do think a PRS though is better to live with and use consistently - thanks to a better headstock angle and also has better hardware and nut to improve the sustain, the stability and performance all over the neck and regardless of string. The only issue is that Gibson have the history, the artists and their recordings and as such will probably be a better investment long term. People will want the Gibson because its iconic and their heroes played them too...
Great video guys. Wish you threw in a Maybach, but maybe you aint got those. Just one criticism: Anything sounds fat through Dirty Shirley, I don't think it is the best choice to test single cuts really. And the Mesa sounded better with these overall IMO. Cheers.
Garrett Story I think it is all your loving. Not sure about the name. It is from the blues breakers album. Where we were Introduced to Eric Clapton. When he played with John Mayall. I hope you haven’t heard the album. You are in for a treat!

I have a Les Paul Standard '50s and Standard '60s. Recently bought an Eastman 59 and it's as nice or nicer than either with a tone that's just about exactly mid way between the two.
dstateswimmer In this review the PRS. I own both a Les Paul and a PRS singlecut. Both guitars are great and I move back and forth between them regularly. The PRS has a more modern vibe. They sound quite similar. Bear in mind that the eventual sound is a product of the whole signal chain. Amplifiers make a massive difference and overall are probably more influential on the sound than the guitar construction or the pickups I'd say. If you go for a Gibson try to play before you buy, so you can make sure that there are no serious quality issues. PRS is low risk via the internet.

The Knaggs is insane, goes from clean like a tele/piano to even beyond the les paul's level of crunch. Clearly the best.

Jack is a monster.
You can't go wrong with LP or PRS. However, the PRS will stay in tune. The LP...not so much.
TC-50 and the Les Paul sounded perfect
Wait! Aren't teles single cut guitars too?
How old is that dirty shirley? It doesn't seem to have the gain structure switch on it
It's a used one we have in store, I'm not sure exactly how old it is but was obviously made before the gain structure switch was a feature.
Peach Guitars I’ve always wondered what position on the switch is supposed to be the original amps setting... great video!
Love the Gibson, but at 1,500 GBP (almost 2,000 USD) less I think the PRS is better value.
The 59 les paul, the eastman and the gretsch. Those 3 are gems. The rest are just stones.
