  • In plants any bud can undergo a spontaeous somatic mutation giving rise to a new leaf, flower or fruit characteristic that may or may not be beneficial. This will not be passed on through the plant's seeds and cuttings, layering or grafting will be necessary to retain it. Reversion can occur back to the wild type. In Ivy green leaves may become variegated or even albino. Green leaf reversion will eventually outgrow the others as they are larger and grow faster because of their higher levels of chlorophyll. These sports can be induced by viruses, chemicals, temperature extremes, etc.

That's some particularly beautiful Ivy. Amazing it can survive with such little chlorophyll!

Super video. You can even make variegated ivy interesting. Can you find some bindweed and explain to us it's characteristics Thanks.

My common house ivy was brought from Scotland to Ireland and planted 5 years ago.
This year the leaves are 2x bigger and a Bright radiant green rather than the smaller darker previous growth. I water and mulch but no fertilisers

Sounds as if you are giving it all it needs.
