✂️Making My 1st Lolita Dress! | Re-creating A.P's 'Lovely Tartan JSK' ❤️ (Lolita DIY)

- Hello Everyone! ❤️
In todays video I share the process of how I made my very first handmade lolita JSK! I attempted to recreate an existing dress by the lolita fashion brand Angelic Pretty called the ‘Lovely Tartan JSK’ that I came across on Lacemarket last summer. At the time the listing for this dress on Lacemarket was set at $200 +shipping and looking at the dress as someone that can sew, I just felt like I could easily find all the materials needed to make this dress myself for much less than $200. So I did lol! I spent $60 in total on this D.I.Y and was able to make a dress that is exactly what I wanted for a fraction of the price!
I really had a lot of fun making this dress and am super exited to share more of my D.I.Y lolita projects with you all in the future! Let me know what you think of this D.I.Y and also let me know if you’re interested in making some of your own lolita clothing! Or if you’ve already made some of your own pieces, what have you made so far? I’d love to read about it!
Anyways, Thank you all again for watching and I’ll see you in my next video!

For future if you haven’t figured it out yet, you can sandwich the bodice between the skirt and a sewn in pettieskirt 💕
Is a petticoat the same as a pettyskirt

This turned out amazing! I've recently been sewing more dresses and I always get so tangled up in figuring out lining and hiding seams. (my favourite way I've seen recently to hide the waist seam allowance is to attach them all together with the complete bodice in between the skirt and skirt liner so its only visible if you lifted up the skirt but not the liner, if that makes sense)
Thank you so much!! 🥰 Also yess!! That was another method I had thought of doing which I think works just well, I just wish would have thought of doing it sooner lol 🙃 But there's also ways a next time, and next I make something with lining I'll try make sure to walk through my process a little bit more on the off chance it can help someone else avoid the mistakes I made.
your dress came out looking way cuter than the original because the gathering at the bottom is way tighter making it look so much fluffier i absolutelty love it 🥺
Omg thank you for uploading this!! I'm starting to get into sewing lolita and these kind of "sew with me" videos are really helpful 💖💖🎀
No problem! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Good luck to you on your sewing journey 😊🍀
Go to a sewing class they are the profesionals
this is so cute, what an amazing recreation! I haven't worn lolita in like a decade but this makes me wanna pull out all my mooks and start sewing haha.
Thank you so much! ❤️ Yesss, do it! Touch the spindle! Touch it!! LOL 😂
Yes! Lovely video! I love sewing videos and pockets of course. I now regret throwing out the old english GLB that came with full patterns when I moved in 2009. I have too many other sewing projects on the go right now, but it makes me wish that lolita brands would sell their fabric sort of like places like marimekko. I love so many prints, but skirts and jsks are always so short and I spend a lot of effort trying to find pieces that are below my knees and have pockets.
Thank you! I too love sewing videos and pockets 😂 lol! If you're interested in getting any of the GLB's or even the Otome no Sewing books to try and make your own lolita pieces, you can find them for a pretty decent price secondhand on places like Mercari, Rakuten, Frill or even on Lacemarket every so often. I purchased a listing on Mercari for just the GLB patterns a few months ago (last unboxing video) and it ended up being around $2 per pattern (I think I got 5) which I don't think is too bad. - Also that's definitely the benefit of making your own clothes, you're completely in control of everything so you never have to worry about whether or not something is going to fit you properly or have pockets!
I've been sewing Lolita dresses all winter long. It's been so refreshing! Love your dress!!!
😊 Thank you!! And that sounds so nice! It's starting to warm up where I live and I'm really looking forward to expanding my wardrobe by making some fun lolita summer themed pieces to wear!
Homg, I absolutely love this!! You did such an amazing job!!!
Aww, this came out so cute! Loved seeing your process. I just recently came across your channel after finding your Insta, and it's so great to find more lolita sewing content!
Ohmygosh I want the green version! So friggin cute! ❤
I made really similar one but it was a skirt, payed only 10$. Im so proud of myself and i love how cheap materials are cheap
SOOOO STINKIN CUTE!! I just picked up sewing again and you have inspired me to make more Lolita style dresses 😍😍😍
It turned out super cute!! This is also one of my future inspired projects to do myself as well. Just seeing recreation/inspired clothing is always special because it has its own unique touch of the maker. I just adore yours! 💖
the dress looks so gorgeous on you and you sew so well !! i hope to get my hands on some lolita patterns and sew my own dress too
I just found your tutorials this morning and I love everything I’ve seen so far! Thank you for making everything so easy to understand! ❤
What a beautiful video! Loved the dress, the soothing sound of your voice explaining clearly all the process, and the final result. Overall 100% inspirational. A new subscriber from now on!
Yesssss thank you so much for this lolita sewing tutorial! Unfortunately these style of clothes aren't available near me in person and I've had to order online. This should help save me money!
I clapped with glee when I saw the title of this video, and I absolutely delighted with everything you did. And as someone who has been overthinking attaching a skirt to a shirring panel, I am so, so happy that you talked about ways to do it.
Ahh ❤️ I'm so glad you liked it!! Also next time I make something with back shirring, I'm going to take some time to walk through how I assemble that piece since I think it could be helpful to others who are trying to make their lolita pieces as well. It sucks that there isn't a lot of lolita related sewing content available on YT for people to reference, so if I can use my channel to contribute in that area I definitely will! Good luck on attaching your shirring panel! 🍀😊
I really enjoyed watching your video. It was so calming, informative and amazing to watch. ❤ I loved how you added pockets 😊 definitely will stick around for your videos you continue to make
Your dress is honestly very pretty ! And the way you did it looks professional. Thank you for doing this video
You absolutely nailed it! This is such a good inspiration for me. I've been considering trying to sew lolita dresses for a while but being a beginner I can't get my head around reading patterns haha. Videos like yours only make me want to dive in and have fun as you did :)
Ahh 🥰 Thank you so much!! Also I really hope you do dive into making your own lolita clothes and come have fun with the rest of us because it really is so much fun!
It turned out to be so pretty! I want to learn how to sew my own clothes.
the skill and how stunning this dress oml tyyyyy
This video made my heart happy. Im not into lolita fashion anymore but I used to do this often! It turned out so pretty too!
This is so beautiful and you look so beautiful in it!!!
How did I miss this one?! Great work!!!🖤🖤🖤
👏👏👏👏 Super cute - well done! You put so much work into this, and your diligence paid off - now I'm inspired to make a JSK with some fabric I just found. I've made everything BUT a shirred JSk and watching this has given me that positive boost I needed! 😀
making these dresses yourself honestly seems like such a great thing when you have the skill since they're so hard to get and expensive... i love how yours turned out, it's perfect!
Amazing work and looks perfect!
Your dress turned out so beautiful! I can't wait to see your next lolita sewing project!
Thank you so much!! 😊❤️
This is adorable 😍 I love it so much! You did an incredible job and the finishing is top tier.
😊 Thank you!! Despite how long assembling the bodice took, I think it turned really nice! I'm also trying to think of something else I can make so that I can use more of those heart buttons lol ❤️
This is so gorgeous! I have a few GLBs with patterns in, this is inspiring me to learn how to draw out the pattern pieces
wow this looks so amazing. great work!!!!!!

Thank you so much!! 🥰❤️ I am also very much obsessed with this dress lol I just need to find more items to coord with it so I can wear it more often!
I have been learning how to sew by hand and I feel like this might be a project that I might be able to do it will keep me occupied on those days when my pain disease is really bad and I really enjoy your videos they make me smile
You straight up nailed it.

I just found your channel, and I am so grateful to you!! I absolutely love lolita fashion but I can't afford 200$ dresses, so now I have a way to wear the style I love
Ahh the buttons and trim is soooo cute! You did a wonderful job ❤️ it’s all so adorable
Thank you so much!! 🥰 I need to find something else to make so I can use more of those heart buttons! ❤️

I’ve been absolutely obsessed with the heart lace since you posted your supplies!! Love this.

You look so beautiful in that dress! I always come back to this video once in a while, it's really inspiring. Think it's time for me to finally start a sewing project thihi :3
This is TOO cute, I wish I was better at sewing, I'd make this in a heartbeat!

you look beyond amazing! you and that dress are beyond gorgeous!!! fantastic job,. I would never guess that this was handmade. Inspirational!
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it 🥰
I'm also impressed! You look amazingly cute in this tartan dress! 😻 As a sewist (and craft-lita) I also love this feeling, when you succeed in making exactly what you had in mind! 🥰
Thank you!! Also I love the word 'craft-lita', I think it sounds sooo cute!! ❤️
The bodice looks so cute by itself 😍
This is pro! Fantastic work :D
This is insanely cute, you did such a good job!
Thank you so much!! ☺️💕
This is beautiful ❤
I'm 1000% going to make this dress! Best handmade I've seen. Your video is so well shot, narrated, and edited. I hope your channel beats the biased algorithm somehow and gains the attention it deserves. ♡
Thank you so much ☺️❤️ LOL I hope I can beat the algorithm too 😂
You did such a great job!!! You are so adorable!!
Ahh 🥰 Thank you so much!!
Awesome! Thank you!
SO CUTE!
Amazing!
oh, my god, absolutely good impression
love it!
Youre so skilled!!! The dress is GORGEOUS! I really need to sit down and figure out everything i need to learn how to sew
Ahh thank you! 🥰 Maybe in the future I'll make more of a tutorial style video on 'How to make your own JSK' or something to help people who want to make their lolita dresses 🤔
@@SewBlack if you wanted to i would definitely watch any video like that! I did really enjoy watching this one too though! This style of video is very relaxing and interesting!
so cute!
wow its a beautyfull dress 😍
You really did that. 👏🏿
I loooove this I want the bodice as a shirt!
Ahhh, I jumped on this video so quickly haha (was wondering when next you would upload). I love everything about your first dress! All the shots in the beginning, the step by step overview and the final end dress! It looks amazing! Proud of you too! Thank you for sharing the process ^^ I'll definitely try to attempt my own diy sometime this year xD
and you have TWO pockets! amazing
Ahhh ❤️❤️ Thank you so much 🥰 I'm happy that you liked it! And yes, please touch the lolita DIY sewing spindle! lol I need more of you out there wearing your own handmade pieces with me!
LOL!! Can you believe I own dresses with only 1 pocket? Like what did I do to only get 1 pocket? So of course when I made my own jsk I made it with 2 because I think I deserve 2 full pockets inside my dresses damn it! 😂 lol
You could use a bias tape to conceal the raw edges on the inside i love your dress 😁👍👍
Soo cute, reminds me of old school lolita , i love it!!!
Thank you so much!! ☺️❤️ I love old school lolita too and would love to try making some of my own old school inspired pieces in the future!
that looks so good! instant subscribe :)
Wow you really did that! Your projects are super cute and you're so inspiring! I'm about to go buy a sewing machine lol
Ahh 🥰 Thank you so much!! Also yessss, go buy that sewing machine and post some cute pictures of the stuff you make on IG so we can all swoon over how cute you look in it 💕 Go, Go, Go!! Lol
you’re so talented this turned out so good !!!
i have been thinking about making a recreation dress myself lately but i don’t know if i would have the skills it takes
Thank you!! Honestly it’s a lot easier than you think and regardless of your skill you’re the one who will be wearing it so it doesn’t need to be perfect and you can add or change whatever you want to make it exactly the way you want. Anyways, I hope you do try to make your own recreation, it’s a lot of fun! ❤️
Omg i'm only through the video to the bodice and it's so heckin' cute already!
I love this dress and can never seem to find it :( now maybe I'll just make it too!
I think the only thing I would have done differently construction-wise, is I probably would have made a tier at the bottom of the lining to add the lace to, so that it would have the same circumference as the skirt.
You did such an amazing job!!!
Thank you ☺️❤️
I honestly think your dress was cuter then the AP version and you can customize it to your exact taste
Oh my gosh! The dress turned out sooo cute! ✨ I really enjoy watching sewing videos and I really liked the relaxed feeling this video has! I think making the straps on bias, would have made the sewing on the curved part of the bust a bit easier too! Now I have the need to sew a new dress too, aaaah! 🙈
🥰 Thank you!! So glad you enjoyed it! I'm currently working to catch up on all of my Feb lolita projects, so I'll definitely have more lolita sewing content to share with you all! - Also yesss, go sew that new dress!! Be like sleeping beauty and touch the lolita DIY spindle!!! LOL 😂❤️
Wow thats a gorgeous dress
Thank you 🥰
So very cute 🥰
The dress turned out so cut omg!!
Thank you so much 😊❤️
You look fabulous! Gorgeous!
Thank you 🥰
it look soooo cute oh my gosh
❤️☺️ Thank you so much!!
If you ever have time, could you make a tutorial for the hairbow? It's so cute!!
Amazing!!! Where would I be able to find a similar pattern? Even just for the skirt.
it turned out so cute!!! im trying to get into sewing lolita dresses because they are not available for sale everywhere its so pretty where do i find the guide books?
god i wish i knew how to sew and read patterns, this is so cute
I promise it's a lot easier than it looks! It's really just about getting past your 1st project. Once you've made your first dress, blouse, pair of bloomers, etc. the process becomes a lot less overwhelming since you've done it once before and know what to do / not do. So even if you don't have a lot of experience, once you make your first project you can use all of the experience you gained and put it towards making an even better 2nd project! ❤️
Omg queen you are underrated asf
Lol 😂❤️ Thank you!!
Woww it turned out amazing! You really went the extra mile in getting all the raw edges neatly tucked away. (I'm usually too lazy!) I do wonder, Why didn't you like the way you finished the lining next to the shirring panel? I think it looks really nice!
Thank you so much!! And yes I did go the extra mile because I was too lazy to dust off and setup my serge at the time 😅 lol So I was really trying to make sure no raw edges were exposed which is what ended up happing on the back panel, hence the reason I didn't like it. Again I did end up finding a solution to keep the back from fraying like crazy, I just would have liked it a lot better if I had through through how lining the lower part of the dress was going to work that way I could have avoided the raw edges showing in that particular area. Next time I make a JSK I'll try to remember to show you all what I'm talking about, on the off chance it can help someone else making their own JSK!
