Ah, that sandbag! The person who suggest that deserves a shout-out! 👍
I've been using one for a couple of years now....makes life so much easier.
The '70s era had a lot of cool and unique looking cars, and this emphasizes that perfectly, great job!
Beautiful piece of British automotive history! Love the plum and tan.
Your persistence paid off, you made it look good in the end Rob, great Job.
Another amazing transformation from scrapy to glory. Great job in the end after all the effort put in
"Hearing-aid beige" made me realize my first car, '70 Riviera, was hearing-aid beige and brown! Love that Rover, we never got them in the states.
I currently have an '82 Oldmobile in those same colors. I drive it every day and get unsavory looks from Prius drivers.
Reminds me of the old _Top Gear_ episode where Clarkson and May looked at Soviet cars. "James, that is the color of a _prosthetic limb."_
We did get them in the US, just not very many and not for very long. A few years ago I came across a car carrier trailer behind a barn in a rural part of New Jersey (!) that had three of these on board. All were rusty and neglected but someone must have cared enough for them at one time to gather them all together.
@@teenchy well, I'll be damned. I'm a 55 year old car nut and never saw a Rover car even at a car show. I'd love to have one.
@@billhowe3867 They only sold about 1200 of them, largely because BL barely had a US dealership network, and what little advertising they bothered to do was mostly for other cars. (The 3500 was also pretty expensive vs. its nearest competitors in this market-IIRC the British pound was worth something like $2.40 at the time.)
the color suits this car perfectly looks great with all the details
Hearing aid-beige interior! Lovely!
That is a very 70's color scheme, annnnndddddd I LOVE it 😀
Thank you, for your perseverance!
Wow! The bubbling at first glance, looked like rain droplets and I thought you were getting a little “artsy” but the finished product looks great. Totally worth the time you took to redo it.
Oh my god Rob, having to paint it THREE times, nightrmare! It turned out great, although I would prefer smaller wheels. I use to walk by a brand new brown Rover 3500 on the way to school, back in the mid 70's when they 1st came out. At the time, it was the only car I looked forward to seeing on that walk. I thought they looked so ultra modern. Fabulous shape and interior. I still like them.
Really nice job with that Rover SD1. The colour is superb.
Absolutely fantastic restoration and color wheel choice
Persistence paid off it looks fantastic 👍👍😊
I feel for ya Rob. I had two finished and they rolled off my little table when it was bumped and chipped the paint. Both had to be redone. You bounced back with a nice looking car!!!!!!
Its a far cry from what it looked like in the beginning another beautful restoration Rob I luv the color you used as well looks beefy with the tires as well
Nice restoration and paint job 👌
Showing us that perseverance will in the end bring us an awesome job!
Nicely done, sir. Colors and detailing pops on this one.
Oh no! This brings back memories. Thirty odd years ago I ran a licensee's warehouse. Our boss had one of these. He was a big bloke. Had to have his clothes specially made. He was that big. And the Rover 3500 was bright yellow. I'm worried about flashbacks now. Ha-ha.
Nice 1 Rob,
my dad had 2 Rover SD1"s in the 80s - 90s and they only had about 150 bhp but loads of torque, great for donuts.
good job Rob
Interesting wheel choice for the Rover. But, it works so well for the time period. And the colour is absolutely gorgeous. I've got a soft spot for earth tones, and by golly that's a winner right there! Love the great work, mate. Looking forward to the next one
Horrendously beautiful sir! I love the SD1 and you have done a fine job!
Great job with the Corgi Rover 3500 .
Nice Job as always Rob. That colour is perfect.
You know we say 3 times a charm thanks for the shout out man appreciate it it turned out fantastic I'm sure George Hodges spotted those Chevy wheels I'm sure he did I have a pack is coming to you shortly we scored on some paint
Thanks Tony
What a great colour combo! Love it Rob. It seems all the good ones put up a good fight. Cheers.
Thanks for your perseverance on this one
My absolute favourite car when I was a kid. I used to have the Corgi one as a police car. That colour looks like the old BL colour tobacco leaf. Triumph Dolomites looked good in that too
Third times a charm came out great. Very nice.
Brown cars were a staple in the day. Was that an ice cream van in the background at the end. Another nice 👍 job Rob.
3rd times a charm. Paint detail on headlights and tail lights made it trick!!!
It looks great, Rob!!! Love color and the wheels!!! 👍👍👍👍
Nice job. I love the detail of the back lights
I have a bag similar to that but much larger. We call it a shot bag and use it for hammering out dents in body panels on full size cars. Nice build!
A lot of patience needed for this one rob, definitely worth it though you have done a fantastic job, always loved the 3.500 rovers 👏👍
My grandfather an SD1, mint condition, only drove it a few times that I remember before parking it up and next time it moved was to the scrap yard.
I watch these kick butt at Goodwood. Some of the best racing anywhere ! Very nice buddy, nice balance. Your skills improve weekly, excellent mate.
Classic. Always loved those old Rovers. Dad had a later model, a 827 Vitesse Fastback
Rob, this restoration looks fantastic. It looks very similar to a Matchbox Rover that still resides in my collection, but maroon in color, with a sunroof, no opening hatch. Nice work!
Well it still turned out very good and the colors were great
The wheels and color go very well together. 👌🏻👌🏻💯
love this Rob!! looks amazing! the colour is spot on for the era!
My favourite real car. Nice job mate!
Nice job on the small fine details too!!
Hi Rob,what a nice car,the wheels do set it off, smart paintwork and interior painted, very tidy.
Excellent job as ever, wheels look like the early 3500S ones. Just a little hint, if you hit the tabs that hold the tailgate with a centre punch it tightens them up, then the tailgate stays open.
Love these old rovers, top job matey 👍👍
Three times and it’s a score .
Very nice 👍, I like the wheels .
Mike Espo . SOO KOOOOOLLLL
Perfect colour choice!
Rob , I was always told that practice makes perfect . LOL And Rob that car looks tough .
Beautiful Rover, perfect colour combination, so 70's and so brown 😄
Wheels are just right style, great restoration 😎
I had a larger Triplex Racer in 1:36 with 4 opening features AND the lifting parcel shelf. Currently a disgusting fudge brown and deserves to be black or gold...
This Junior I had in Grabber Blue (that pale mid Ford shade) also had a yellow interior. Also have a rough one in blue.
I have a mint Police Juniors and am quite certain I have a neat Triplex like this Touring Cars model
An EXCELLENT customization job!!.. Looks all ready to go back on the road!!.... Keep up the great work Bud!!
The Rover SD1 was a great design. The Vitesse and Vanden Plas were the models to own.
Third times the charm. I don’t think I would have been so casual in my response after seeing the blisters.. argh.
Nice metallic brown.
I feel your pain Rob! I emailed you a photo of my last model that done the same thing as yours. I ended up painting it 4 times before I got it right. Thanks for the advice, it worked.
That's much better quality than a 1:1 scale Rover 3500 for sure.
Makes me feel better about gluing cars back together, that it is not just me.
Looks absolutely great
Awesome! you got the jewelers sandbag ,I made that comment on the "Too far gone - Volvo 480ES video that you punched the roof out of with the hammer handle, I hope that works well for ya.
Another amazing restoration, it came out very clean and again spot on with the wheel selection.
Thanks for sharing
Mike from Texas,Take Memories,Leave Footprints
Thanks Michael 👍 It works a charm 😊
Very cool build! I always have those castings that give me a fit.its like they don't want to be painted. Lol. Those general motors Chevelle wheels will definitely make that little British car go faster 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hope you are keeping well George
Awesome restoration video
Heartbreaking indeed three times was however the charm!
Nice color choice and excellent details!
Nice color and great choice of wheels
gorgeous work, lovely color!
Excellent work as always Rob. Fair play for persevering, it looks wicked with the colour choices and detailing. Any chance you could edit in a bit more of the polishing up on your shorter vids as it’s very satisfying to watch! Keep em coming mate
Always love your videos Rob.
Lovely job Rob
Rover SDI, my dad had one in metallic red as a company car. It seemed so cool! I remember the SDI being featured in the Human League's "Don't you want me" music video too!
I sent you a police car version - but it's good to see that the 'rear window theory' (in that there wasn't one) was correct. Thanks for the lovely comments, though - they cheered me up on a particularly dull day. Cheers!
Hideous 1970's colours? Oh yes. A friend of mine had a Morris Marina, in what could only be described as 'Baby's First Poo Tan'.😆
Your model looks astonishing - and those wheels do look like 'Rostyles' which would have been fitted on the real car. Nice one.
Love that paint job!
One of my old cars by looks of it top job 👍
Looks great Rob , perfect colour for a Rover 3500 l l'm aging it would've been a velour interior as was so polar in the 70s and 80s 😄
Rover sd1 on rostyle wheels, cant go wrong. Great job.
Love the SD1! I had a 3500SE in cashmere gold with the tan interior. Loved it! Good wheel choice Rob, look like the rostyle wheels on the Rover P5b 😉👍
Awesome job my friend
I like the color it is different keep up the great work.
Good job rob
Brilliant job Rob. Please don't call me picky, but the indicators on the rear should be on the outside of the car not the inside near the number plate. I had a few of these in my youth, back when you could pick them up for banger money, 2 to £300. You would be lucky to find a good one for less than 3 grand now. How things have changed since the late 80's. Keep them coming mate. I hope I win the draw for this one, brings back a lot of great memories.
Love the look of that one.
Great job Rob. The real SDI fell to bits. The only good thing about these was the engine. Dad had one and scrapped it!!
I had one in yellow as a kid. Well actually I can’t remember wether it was a Corgi or the Matchbox version or if I had both versions. But I LOVED that car. I think at the time it had sporty 4 door look to it. Nice restomod, the colour suits the car and the wheels although a slightly too big looks good as well
Nice shiny paint job...
Not a bad car in real life,Rob.A mate of mine had the SE Vitesse version, tuned to do 160!Good little makeover, mate.
Very nicely done.
in and ex terior colours coming from those lovely old brochures. like it
I have heard that color referenced as “Old Man Tan” because only old retired guys would buy cars in the color. 🤣
Super job, the wheels remind me more of a ford capri
Third time is the charm...I've heard of Land Rover , but not a Rover car. The '70s was sort of a pastel decade..
You painted that car almost the same color combo of my old '79 Chevette..
You do really good job on the cars you do keep on with you videos they have very much I nformation
Beautiful colour, a top job, maybe you should always do it three times 🤣
Great work Rob, bless, three times to complete this restoration must have really tried your patience!, this looks every inch a 70’s car, what were they thinking with those colours lol, I guess they were “groovy” back in the day 😂.
Beautiful color...love it ♥️
Love the colors!!
I’ve always wanted the real car. They just don’t exist in the U.S. We do enjoy putting the engine in our MGBs, though.
Third time’s the charm, eh? It was worth it. Perfect color combination and wheel choice on this one. Big thumbs up!
if you find the old buick V8 it is the same engine as rover bought the engine in from buick
US law states anny car above 20 years old could be imported.
You could find an old one for aprox 900 dollars, then spend 5000 and you wil have a gem.
So if you want with effort your dream can come true.
Of course the noghtmare of an old UK car wil come then.
Ellectrics, oil leaks, bad construction.
Better of with a Citroen CX.
Not perfect but better.
My daily driver (in fact my only car) is a 1979 MGB. I am well acquainted the perils and rewards of classic British car motoring vs modern car driving.
@@ruckusracing419 if it was built in the 70s early 80s and has a BL badge you are assured shite quality but then that's true of most car manufacturers of that period , it was the dawn of radical new materials like plastics etc being used so a lot of trial and error was going on
Grand job done there exactly the colour my uncles 3500 was and similar wheels
Love your work, would have been an easy model to out a back window in imo. Love the wheels, great stuff as always
I think 🤔 you should keep this one.
You put in so much time..
that being said, it turned out great 👍
Hearing aid beige :))) spot on! Yeah,, some crappy colours on cars here back then.
I had a blue one if these that was actually a wicked little Pencil Sharpener, you opened the tailgate and the shavings exited underneath.. Never seen another one!
I feel your pain. I’ve painted the same action figure I’ve been customizing 4 times already. Can’t get it right but won’t let it go.
