  • Episode 29: Is Indian Aviation back to pre-covid days?
The industry is recovering after a two-year slump. Various positives in the market have been seen with the airlines slowly picking up pace. Tata has finally taken over debt-ridden Air India early this year. A major overhaul is happening at the airline in terms of employees, new recruitment underway, and proposed improvement of their fleet as well.
Furthermore, new entrant Akasa Air has been making waves ever since placing an order for 72 B737 Max at the end of 2021. They have been swiftly taking shape and are looking to commence operations in July, backed by some senior aviation personnel.
Jet Airways 2.0 is here! After the airline had to shut down in 2019, the Jet is ready to soar the skies after receiving its AOC from DGCA.
All this marks a revival for the industry and new avenues for budding aviators. New recruitments for pilots are also being announced, more flights have been added on-demand, and hopefully much brighter days ahead.
Yes, the Industry is back, and hopefully much better news to follow.

I need some guidance from you.
Want to become a pilot. I'm planning to take a cadet route. I am 27 right now. Did my bachelors in 2018 and since then working and trying to save as much as I can for this cadet pilot programs.
I am hoping that aviation might be picking up in 2024-25. So I am planning to apply for 2023 cadet programs as soon as they start. Also as I am attaining that 32 age Maro which most airlines keep for recruiting through cadet program.
I believe the cost of cadet programs will be now around ~1.1 crore INR.
So is it a wise decision to go for cadet program in 2023?
Or should I wait for 1 more year.

Hi Nikhil. See with Cadet program you are most likely assured of the job. Yes it is expensive, just plan it out well. If you consider Indigo whose cadets are all waiting from a while to be joining in. But having said that, they have more chance of getting it. Avoid taking loans for cadet program it's not recommended at all. You could delay it but your age could become a concern. So find out the basic requirements first before you get in with the airline. Also would urge you to complete your medicals and dgca exams much before you start the process. Also with every passing year many more are getting into the industry as well. See the entire picture and take a call

Mitesh, the only option is to study well. Join a job work and save up. Then invest for your training. Sounds like a long process, but it's doable.
