- Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX Review & Demo - New Serato DJ Lite Controller!
Numark’s Mixtrack Platinum FX is an entry-level four-channel DJ controller for Serato DJ software, and a direct replacement for the Numark Mixtrack Platinum, which came out in 2016. Broadly it improves in all areas on its popular predecessor, and if Serato is your choice of software, it’s a winner.

I bought this based on this review because I needed a smaller controller for mobile gigs and so far I couldn't be happier build quality is super solid love that it's plug-and-play with no adapter needed never thought that I would go back to a Numark mixer but this thing is absolutely the best controller for the money in the business
It is indeed very well made for the money.
Just won one in a free giveaway so been binge watching these videos, this one has been by far the best one so far
Glad to help, enjoy the controller!
Sweet, I'm jealous! Moving on up!
Great showcase, fully in depth and no bull crap, buying one this week so thank you for this video 😄
Glad it helped
Great review. Just upgraded to this Numark model from the Numark party mix 2. I'm so happy i found this video, it made my life a lot easier to learn those functions.
Great upgrade! Glad it helped.
Your videos are so. damn. good! Thank you for these reviews. Your delivery is the best in the business in my opinion. Much appreciated!
Thank you
I got gifted one of these last night so I'm just getting schooled up before I let loose haha.
Awesome :)
This is a GREAT Review and Demo Video of this controller! Hats off to you sir! Very informative, and I enjoyed watching you showing all of the features as well!
you're welcome Richard.
Really enjoyed this review. ordered this as my first hardware after years messing around with software from time to time, ,
in the 2000 this stuff was only for 'real' djs. costing you a arm and a leg. pretty amassed what you can get today,
The big wheels WITH displays and FX buttons was a big selling point,
I think you will really enjoy it
Thank you Phil !!! I've been playing this controller for about 2 weeks now and it's really cool !!! This device is not only for beginners)))
Not at all! We really liked playing around with this one
Would you have to pay to use the dj when using say virtal dj?
@@nathanielmighty2447 i play with serato dj pro
I bought this based on your review. I love it. $50 for the jog wheel and the 4 channels, I think is well worth it over the Pro model. I use Virtual DJ and found that the Platinum works well with VDJ too.
Nice one Kenny
Can use Pro serato
Hi Kenny, may i ask how did you get the controller to work with VDJ? Did you have to buy the license for the controller for $100 or not? Regards
Can you use a Apple Mac book air M1
@@michaelroos1893mapping
I love your voice!! & Thank you for this tutorial... mine just arrived yesterday and I’m excited to learn!
Hope you enjoy it!
Great Showcase. Definitely going to buy when I can find it in stock. Birthday was on may 18 and all the pioneer ddj 400’s have been out of stock (in uk). Now that I have seen this I will definitely be getting the Mixtrack platinum. Thanks for good review
Nop roblem!
Numark really came strong with these! The best features are the jog screens, long throw pitch, and the effects switch which is far better than the effects on the 1000srt . Whose idea was it to implement effects like that?? I just wanna activate my effects immediately, not worry about what channel I'm on. The loop functions are redundant, and there should be a standard xlr out at that price point. But overall good controller!
This release literally came out of nowhere! Thanks Phil
Early feedback seems like pretty much everyone LOVES those new FX paddles. Looks like the gambler has paid off for Numark...
Such a great review. Very informative. Thank you.
Thanks!
Loved the review, thank you. Everything I wanted to know.
Glad it was helpful!
Love your review I have one of these decks and you are spot on you do need to get Serato Pro
Thanks Keith!
Great video !! Can’t wait to start mixing my jams 🎉🎼🥁🎸🎧
Go for it!
Thanks so much. I can't seem to find any official documentation about how to use all this stuff. This video helped
You're welcome
outstanding review. thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the great review video, is the only one video i found is explaining exactly what do each bottom function playing music,
Glad to help :)
Just ordered this to be delivered tomorrow, excited to improve my DJ game
Awesome, enjoy!
@@digitaldjtips I cant get the mic to output in streamlabs OBS its a Numark WM200 mic
man the mixtrack series has come a loooooong way since the very first model in 2010, literally night and day in terms of quality and functionality. its pretty crazy if you consider the bang for the buck.
Hasn't it just - and that first one is still a great controller!
Super cool controller! Really like the idea of this, almost another version of the ddj 800. Those pitch fades are awesome tho
Definitely more entry level than the DDJ-800 feature-wise.
I regularly watch your reviews and would love to buy this mixer, but Numark and Alto have decided not supply to my local supplier in Bristol or to other smaller shops nationally but will only supply to the larger companies. I understand this is a national issue, so this means if I have to travel to Reading or Birmingham which is bad enough for me but even worse for DJ's further down South. Granted I could order from the internet but I prefer that personal touch, these smaller shops show you how it works before you buy, you can take it back easily when under guarantee, have it pac tested and serviced. They are great for young kids and teenagers looking to get on that DJ step ladder. I know we are living in difficult times but we DJ's need these smaller shops which have been slowly closing down over the years. Thank you for your Video.
That’s a shame but I guess that’s the way things are going. Doesn’t alter the fact that this is a superb controller. 😀
Them jogs are stunning jesus numark have stepped up.
Yeah they've done a great job here and we liked the old one as well!

Cool!
Does it work with SERATO DJ pro?
Thank you very nice review!
No problem Mike!
Top review, well explained.
You're welcome
great review helped me a lot thank you
Glad I could help
Thx for good review.
thankyou so much for this video, it answered all my questions and concerns for this controller. sad to say, those limited/doubled up features for the loops and pads just were a complete deal breaker. like you said and shown, their the exact same feature just different buttons. greatly appreciate you!
you're welcome Alaya
Get on it Pioneer.. Good job Numark
Agreed, nice little updates here :)
i had a mixtrack for use in Vienna and at the time that was all i could get for that place .I had a fully pro set up in London .The mixtracks cross fader lasted less than a year and it had no independant gain on the mixer section.I took it to the U.K as a present for anyone that might want a controller.I have a new set up in Vienna with a new Mac Book Pro ,the Numark Scratch and some older Pioneer CDJS and some cheap direct drive decks that will have to go once i have the money to replace them.I still will need a good portable for when i am on my travels though.
Well the new one has definitely got the gains. :)
Love this controller especialy for the price great for mesing up in bedroom
Nice one :)
Always a great informative tutorial on dj controllers. Is.there a way to record your voice while making a mix or playing live. Thanks & cheers mate
Only by recording the actual audio output. You can't do it in Serato.
Legend Love ur vids
Thanks!
Gotcha. Thanks for the video still helpful.
@12:00 I think you actually can change the effects on the device w/out using the Mouse!
I have the Platinum (previous version bough brand new - only had for 30 days now, but I'm willing to bet, that feature can be turned on/off in the settings OR work through the "SHIFT + button??"
The version I have works work by pressing the "Shift + "FX1, FX2, or FX3" buttons. So, it just stands to reason that it works the same way, BUT IT MAY NOT.
Thank you for all that you do "Digital DJ Tips"
Ah cool :) Thanks!
Fantastic review, as always. Couple questions: the FX section actives the standard Single FX, but does it allow for usage with Multi FX? Thinking about it in terms of using a specific Echo Out. I suppose this could be done with midi mapping the paddles or does it mapping even recognize Hold and Temporary?
How much bigger would this be compared to say a VCI-380?
Thanks, Phil!
Maybe it would be possible in Serato DJ Pro. the way it works now is that it activates the first of the three available effect slots simultaneously for both effect engines.
Best demonstrations
Thanks!
Great review, I’m torn between this and the Inpulse 500, if you had to choose, which one?
I'd choose this, I think the jogs and the build quality are slightly better.
Is it possible to remap the 6 FX buttons to other effects in Serato Pro? Also, to allow multiple effects in the same time somehow?
One important point that I never saw mentioned in videos before I bought mine is that at least half the imported tracks aren't analysed properly by Serato, so you don't get the bpm or loop capability.
Personally I use that as an opportunity to mix purely by ear, but it might be important for some.
Not sure if that's also the case on Serato Pro. I'm using the Lite version that was included.
Depends on your music, but usually it is easy to fix an auto beatgrid as the software will have got close.
Thank you for the informative review Phil! I recently purchased Algorddims Djay software and noticed that it works with this Numark controller. I imagine that you could re-map the pads to do other things in the DJay software. Have you tried this yet? I am debating whether to move on from Traktor gear to this controller or the Pioneer ddj-400. The Numark's displays are pushing me in that direction because my eyes have gotten worse over time and I want to avoid using the computer for basic info like the bpm and the time of the track, setting cue points during times of a track is essential to apply fx at certain cue points. Seeing the time of a track helps with timing for cues and effects on the fly and for prep work.
djay is pretty easy to map, but no we haven't played with remapping this controller to that software.
Ave got numark scratch with pro serato..so might get one these in white
3 years after: I'm buying one of these because I think having the displays on the jog wheels are super handy.
Fair enough!
I bought a new one, mixed in the earlier day's with vinyl, switched over for Radiosets (TranceStoned & PsyStoned) with MixMester, now the absolute beginner with the Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX, but I learn fast
Look at dj.studio, it's Mixmeister on steroids
@@digitaldjtips Checked your link and what they say about MixMeister vs DJ Studio .... I do not complain, MixMeister still perfect running on my both W11 pro devices, make my radiosets on MixMeister, fast recording!, 3 hour set in 8 minutes. MixMeister still have support.
Is it possible to use slicer mode on the pads with platinum fx if we use Serato DJ Pro?
@DigitalDJTips How do the EQ knobs feel? & what effects can be used with virtual DJ software? I'm keen to buy one but I am researching the product so I hope you can help. Thank you for your time.
such a good vid so useful
Thanks Peter!
@@digitaldjtips i’m getting one on the 19th and i need to learn how to use it
Cool, we can certainly help with that. The Complete DJ Course would be a great starting point: djtips.co/completedj-course
Im gonna order now..😎
Enjoy!
How is
it ?
I wanted to buy this one i love the FX section but only one effect for both decks lol 😭 might still get it for those tempo faders
It's a great bit of kit :)
I was bidding on pioneer SB3's for weeks on ebay but due to the pandemic the prices were crazy.. I've pre ordered this for release in the uk and its coming 30th June.. hope it's worth the wait
Awesome, enjoy!
Nice review. Can I use 8 pads after upgrading to Serato Pro?
Yes you can
i prefer the deck layout on this and those jogs look good.
Cool!
Hi thanks for your review! I bought the previous version Mixtrack Platinum in 2017. Have loved it since I bought it but REALLY enticed by this new version Platinum FX. In general, do you think the upgrades featured on the Platinum FX justify making the new purchase only a few years after buying the Mixtrack Platinum? Thanks again!
Probably not if you're still happy with it, it's an upgrade but it's not going to be night and day different
You could likely sell your Mixtrack Platinum for $150 on Ebay or something and bag yourself a nice shiny upgrade for little outlay :)
Roland 202.
Its got the Classic Roland built in Drum Machines and programmable Sequencer plus more effects and more Pad functionality, 4 Decks ect.
Only thing this does better imho are the LED Jogs and long throw pitch faders.
DDJ400 is pretty sweet also so is the SB3.
Thanks for pointing out the DJ 202!
waiting on mine
Awesome, have fun with it :)
Got mine a month ago and haven't really touched it yet... cuz ttbs are fun but carrying them to small events is a headache. Now gonna have the time to try it out and honestly don't wanna read a manual lol. Thanks
for the video. I honestly only bought this for the effects paddle. Wanted to get the rane one but very skeptical about first gen products, especially for that price. It's obviously a a good controller but I'll wait for the better version... the second gen.
Glad we could help, you might still have to dig into the manual but we're here to help if you need it :)
@@digitaldjtips Let's see how goes lol.
Like to see upgrade to the ndx500's before i go and purchase them for the numark scratch i have.
Hopefully we'll see more stuff coming from Numark soon :)
I've often heard the jog wheels being too heavy for scratching, which is something I would be interested in doing. However, it offers so many features for a beginner DJ like me as a proper first controller. I do not know if that should be a deal breaker, and go for something like the pioneer ddj-400
You can scratch on either controller you mention.
FINALLY FX paddles on a controller!
They are massive fun and inviting to use - and they are so simple to use.
This alone will make these controllers sell very well.
Most people seem to agree with you!
I enjoyed them on the DJM-909 (although they were more small switches instead of paddles). It makes FX so intuitive.
got the platinum fx from mixtrack pro 2, it's feel great i think,
the price that what i got
Cool :)
Great review!!! Is it possible it will work with algoriddim and ipad?
No, not as of now.
@@digitaldjtips Do you know if this has changed? I’m looking to get my first controller and love the look of this after watching ALL of your reviews (thanks) and would love the option of iOS IPad connectivity as well as Serato
Thank you DDT )
No problem!
Does the effects problem go away with Serato DJ Pro? I have the DJ Lite and was wondering if upgrading would solve the issue?
Thank you
Great review. Mine arrived today :-)
Am I doing something wrong or have Numark junked the 'Shift + push down the Browse dial' function for expanding crates in Serato?
We didn't test that! We'll have a look when we next set it up.
@@digitaldjtips I messaged Numark support to ask about it. Not sure if it's my device or by design! :-)
@@digitaldjtips I'm really struggling to get anywhere with Numark, Serato or the shop I bought the Pro FX from. Can't find anything about this online either - do you know anyone who has this issue?? Lol feel like I'm going insane!! :-)
Wonderful overview. I'm, thinking about getting this but I'm wondering if it will suite my needs. I have a standard Numark M4 Mixer and 2 Technic MkII turntables, lots of vinyl and a MacBook Pro. I'm hoping that this will somehow tie into my current setup where I can capture samples from my vinyl in the serato software and create custom mixes on my mac. Unfortunately , I didn't see any analog inputs on the controller so not sure how I would funnel my vinyl through this device.. Or is there another device I should look for? Thoughts??Thanks
You should drop the M4 mixer and save up for a controller that can also accept turntables, of which there are many.
I just got this as a Christmas gift and now I need a new laptop to use it. Any recommendations for a relatively cheap laptop that I can use with this?!
Easiest thing to do is check the specs of Serato and find a laptop that works at a decent price
Nice Vid
Glad to help
Thanks for the really nice review,i just bought the specific controller and i think it is a vfm controller, nice and not ''cheapy'' build, nice interface,a nice controller overall at this price range. The only thing that bothered me is the browser features,to be more specific,if you have subfolders at your music collection you can't open and close them through the controller, you have to open and close them manually using either the touchpad of your laptop or with an external mouse.Other controllers does this while holding down shift button and the back or forward button depending on what you wanna do.....i tried to fix this at the midi controller mapping of serato but i couldn't do it so i thig it is not possible,if anyone has any solutuion let me know....
Would the Platinum FX work with iOS devices with Algoriddim Djay and the streaming services like Tidal that it accesses? If so, would the FX work and would other mapping be correct?
It's a supported controller so yes it should, haven't tried it though
Need Guidence, It is a great video but I want to know How to use beat fx like pioneer in numark?
Just picked up one of these, but what I’m finding is that when I put it in Scratch mode and I play the song, the track skips along when I press play. Once I disengage scratch mode the track plays normally. It’s annoying because all I can do is nudge the track and not go back and forth as you do in your video. Thanks for making these! I have learned so much from your videos.
Not sure why that is!
How can you save the sampler button asign
At the time of writing still seems the best laid out cheap controller. The only annoying thing is the fader cuts feature, if you don't use it, as it can't be remapped.
Thanks for sharing Vlad.
Having had an NS7FX I really enjoyed the feature of fading 1 deck in to the other with the cross fader firing up the deck with the waiting track. On this mixer I have to manually start the deck and then cross fade. I have the earlier 'mirrored' version. I sent this question to Newmark and received no answer, followed by a request to review how their help site - helped!
Help!
Most likely not possible on this controller, we definitely haven't come across that as an option
Hi, I have a question, if you are playing on deck one and your bass knob is turned all the way down and you swap over to deck three will the bass be set all the way down on deck three? Or does it remember what bass setting there are for each deck before the swap (layer)?
Good question Shaun! It remembers, and you need to move the knob to where it "was" before the knob becomes operational again (it's referred to as "soft takeover").
I am an amateur dj and been working with only software on laptop, and this review is awesome even for someone like me that has almost no clue about controllers and thinking about getting this.
I have 2 questions:
1. I will be needing to travel by airplane with it a few times, needing to have it in the baggage. Is it too sensitive (keys etc.) to travel with it? Is there a good suggestion about how to do it?
2. Does Serato Lite support the 4 decks or only the Pro?
Buy a Decksaver cover for the controls, it is a hardwearing acrylic cover to protect them in transit.
@@digitaldjtips thank you very much for answering. I was thinking about a full case because I thought that the cover wouldn't be strong enough, but now that I give it one more look seems perfect. Thank you!
i dont use lots of effects at the same time and usually its like an echo as i dont have the right bpm for the next track or the bpm isnt constant enough to do a beat mix as a transition..I like to use effects at the right time on the right track and the limited deployment here is not an issue.
We suspect a lot of people will be like this.
I know it's kinda off topic but does anybody know a good site to watch newly released series online ?
@Kingsley Bryant try Flixzone. Just search on google for it =)
@Magnus Payton yup, I have been watching on Flixzone for since march myself :D
@Magnus Payton Thank you, signed up and it seems to work :D I appreciate it !!
Great review, well done. However, which one do you really recommend, the Platinum FX or Pioneer DDJSB3? THANKS
Depends what style of effects you want, that would be the decider for me. Paddles, or traditional?
What's about versus DDJ 400
@@digitaldjtips can you say which one has more accurate pitch adjustment with the faders between sb3, ddj 400 or the one you're showing here?
The Numark, it has much longer pitch faders
imo the numark is a whole lot cooler features-wise than the SB3 which is about 2 years old now. but do consider how easy it is to get a controller serviced in your area if you plan to keep the controller for many years. where i live, few people have spare parts to fix a numark, so i'd only buy the numark if i don't intend to take it out much or if i'm sure i'm going to take very good care of it. otherwise i'd get the pioneer. I bought a numark NVII couple years back and it has some problems now but it's too costly to fix, so I wish i had gotten a pioneer back then.
This controller is the one!
4:05 can you change the time from ascending to descending. I like my time to count down to Zero. Can this be done in Serato if it can't be done by the controller? Also, are the pads rubber or hard plastic?
Hard plastic for the pads. Yes, you can set that in Serato.
Is there a way to adjust the jog wheels for more precise scratching? I feel a slight lag whenever I backspin or just pull back on the jog wheel. It drags a little. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
No, you’re stuck with how they are.
@@digitaldjtips Thank you for the quick reply
About time Numark made a controller with a single loop button, why they needed to also put auto loop on the pad, could have added something else that’s useful.
Could always do some mapping :)
Whats the size comparison to say the DDJ400/800? Is it wider/longer or about the same size as those?
Bigger than the 400, smaller than the 800.
How to get the jog wheel to display the remaining time?
I own it and I’m unable to switch from elapsed time to remaining time on the controller itself (not serato).
BTW Phil, i purchased your complete dj course and I can only say good things about it!
Thank you for your inspiration and enthusiasm.
Hi JB, thanks for your kind comments. I do not think there is a way of changing that from the controller itself.
Hi, I had a question, when I set my crossfader to the center it makes both decks quieter, I noticed you had it in the center during the video, Is there a setting that needs to be changed?
It does that for a reason, so that when you are mixing two songs, the overall volume doesn't change. But you can adjust in in Serato's software settings, in the "Mixer" section.
Where did you get the samplers from? Especially the gunshot sound effects?
I think they come with Serato?
Useful, but like all reviews of this item there's not enough discussion of the four-deck function. For example, do you get the option of a four-deck onscreen display with the supplied software? At the moment I'm using a Vestax VCM-600 with the four-deck version of MIXXX because it gets me closest to what I want to do, but it's a bit of a lash-up (and has no jog wheels!). Can you advise?
Yes, the software shows all four decks.
This looks great for the price
Agreed!
D.J.Johnny Tapia aloha stranger
Hello, how can I switch the time played to the remaining time?
Helpful
Glad it helped you.
Digital DJ Tips ❤️
Am I able to use Rekordbox softwear with this controller via the mapping method?
We've not tried that, so couldn't tell you for sure.
Hello, can't this to work with the serato pro version
Thanks for a great run through on this. Been using mine for a few months now, and I truly love it. Bought this to get back into it and it definitely did the trick. Had a Traktor S2 years ago and it just wasn't the set up for me. Didn't really enjoy the software either. Serato Pro, this controller, and Tidal has been a game changer. It might be worth noting to some that you CAN switch out the Sampler for full Serato stems control. Been fun playing around with that feature and thought it was great to have on such a cheap controller. I do seem to have a bit of trouble with decks 3 & 4. Might chalk that up to just being a rookie DJ in general, but we'll seea lol. I think I bought it used for $175, totally worth it for me!
Yes, you can indeed!
Hey . Would you please do a video on the Numark M6 usb. Cannot figure out how to connect to my PC. Or what software to use.
I am afraid we don't have this mixer in the studio.
M6 will not work with windows 10. Windows 10 asks for a driver but when you contact numark they say it they dont come with a driver because they are class compliant. Its a load of crap. biggest waste of money ever.
i often have to use a manual loop as much of my stuff is before mechanical beats .
Me too!
I already have Serato DJ Pro...I understand that it can be installed on more that one device...so presumably I could add it to this controller? Cheers...
Yes
Great job, might get this for my back yard while i am BBQ, hercules is cool, but this is sweet, no need for my big rig for my small back yard, lol
No, definitely not...
Exactly man. I got my ddj 800. And i hate carrying that thing around. I just got. Eon one compact for small events like on a beach or in the woods. With no power. Just laptop n speakers. The sb3 was great. But after seeing this and using the ddj 800. I like that screen. So im definetly getting this for. Small/secluded events
