I must say PQ, you have help me a ton since i started watching your videos about a year ago now. You´re one of the rare ones that give a honest view of what your doing in game but also the way you tell it. I really appreciate the work you put in. Many thanks man :)
I personally feel that stealth radar is one of the only counters to DDs that can think and breath at the same time. Unlike a DDs ability to torp undetected an entire game, you only get a couple of radars to spot them, and the further the range the shorter the duration. It seems entirely fair to me to be able to counter a DDs stealth for at least a few seconds.
Excellent content. What makes me hesitate about upgrading from the Gearing is that the Gearing gets the legendary hull, which drops the concealment down to 5.6 km. It doesn't seem like much, but having that little bit of advanced warning before a super ship is able to see you can be decisive. Especially if the opponent doesn't have RPF to help find you. On paper, I can see why some would favor Daring over Gearing. In a 1v1 match, I think Daring should win most of the time. But I think the real strength of a Gearing is that it plays well with other ships. Daring's gimmicks mostly benefit only itself, but a Gearing smoke can hide supporting ships for minutes at a time, allowing them to reach advantageous positions or fire with concealment. If you put a smokescreen down for a Worcester, they can easily follow behind you, support you with sonar, radar, and defensive fire. An enemy DD might charge the smoke, thinking that he's about to get into a 1v1 with an inferior destroyer, only to find himself within 7 km of a Worcester and a Gearing. If you're a USN destroyer captain, you try to create these sorts of opportunities for unfair fights.
@@Caninoization No one hates them more than me, but they can only spot you locally. A CV is on you whenever it chooses. Subs are more cancerous than CV's I think, but as far as spotting goes, CV's are the worst.
I am back playing this game after a several year break and I never realized the flashing lights on enemy ships when they have damage con activated. Thanks for the tip!
other fun facts about gearing and humphrey's 21mm armor yes, it will shatter smaller he. however, it being ever so slightly thicker also means it'll arm a lot more ap every gun 127mm and smaller will full pen a gearing/humphreys that is broadside 127mm in particular is dangerous because it'll full pen with both he and ap
PQ, thanks for the video! I wasn’t going to get a super ship but I’m reconsidering it now. I would definitely get a DD if I do. The Humphreys is one as well as the Yamagiri. o7
I'm absolutely wrecking in the gearing, not because of the guns but because of the damn torps, 90 sec reload with 16,5km range, 70kts AND 1,4 concealment is just insane. Now imagine this in a platform that also has just more HP and burst fire to keep those screeners at bay, yummy!
I beg to differ, the stealth mino radar is alright because the ship will blow up if not positioned correctly, and even if it is positioned correctly, it will take a fair chunk of damage anyway.
Was hoping to see the burst fire gun mode vs non burst fire, and an explanation of it. What commander did you have on this? She's pretty funny in a way.
Just saw a message in clan chat about aslains mod update fixing all the broken mods from this update, and it got me thinking…. Have you done a video explaining your mods, how you have them set up, and why you use them?
I think in order to show a fair representation of the fun&engaging (tm) experience created by Wargambling, you would also need to show a game where you get dumpstered and spotted to death by a super CV and your AA does nothing which is about 50% of games.
I'm sure this as been asked a million times, but how do you get your screen to look like that with these beautiful ultrawide vistas? Is it some kind of fish eye mod? I play on max settings 2540x1440 and it still dosen't look anything like this.
the ghost radar, or stealth radar, is honestly just a gimmick like all the other gimmicks. I personally find it very annoying when I'm in a cruiser being spotted by a DD or worse yet, sub, and there's nothing I can do about it because he's outside my radar detect range yet can still detect me. I think we could have them have the same value or similar at least. the plymouth is a good example where the detect is 9.3km but the radar is 9.0. you wait a couple seconds after your detected and hit that radar
Gearing line is one of the very few I actually haven't completed. (I have Somers, Benham, Black, sherman etc....) Do you think it's worth it for this boat alone?
No it's not worth it. The problem with tech tree destroyers is that they are completely powerless when they come across the likes of Smaland or Marceau, both of which are very common. Additionally, Humphreys is essentially a bigger and clumsier Gearing with an F key, that is to say it's more of a side grade to Gearing than an upgrade like the other 3 destroyers at tier 11. If you really want a super destroyer, Yamagiri, Dalarna, and Zorkiy are all significantly better than Humphreys
The tier 11 SHOULD be this good. You are top tier with some substantial advantages over lower tier ships. The US DD line is very good. It's a hybrid line. Good at a lot but not the "best". If you understand that the low tiers are more gun boats you will do well. Tier 7, you can actually play as a torp boat but you should be using both styles from there on up. Past tier 6, you need to understand that you don't get a heal like most of the other DD's. So you really need to pick your fights and adapt your play to your opponents capabilities. Don't ignore your guns. They are very good, especially up close where the trajectory stays flat. Long range does not favor you, but you certainly can pick your opportunities to use your guns at range to get fires after a flood, chip damage and just being really opportunistic.
@@slip6699 It seems that some people don't fully understand or appreciate the benefit of the USN DD line, which is balance. They are good at both guns and torps. Guns can save you in a brawl, the torps can sink everything from BBs to DDs.

I've got a commander like that in (I think) my Jervis. I hate her yak flapping so much that I don't play that ship. I found a way to shut her up but it wound up being temporary. (do to patches?)
The problem with this ship is, much like gearing and the rest of the USN DD line, is lack of utility in the current meta game. It may do good occasionally, but it’s not a great gun boat or torp boat. Z-52, harugumo, kleber, Marceau, and Halland are still far better ships a tier lower due to their better capabilities in one way or another. This ship demonstrates in my play, why the USN non-premium DDs(and some of the premiums too) are still mechanically obsolete in the meta and need to be rebalanced.
The benefit of the U.S. DD line is balance. They generally have good torps and good guns. Some torp biased boats can die to the better guns of a U.S. DD.
@@LoanwordEggcorn By balance, I assume you mean the jack of all trades, master of none mentality. The reality is that there are branches that are better jack of all trades. The German 12.8cm branch has significantly better guns and solid torps with more utility in the consumable department. The european DD line is better overall as a jack of all trades in terms of guns and torps. The IJN gunboat line(Aki and onwards) also do basically the same thing but with far superior gunnery. You could even argue the russian Grozovoi line is also objectively better as a jack of all trades. Outside of the IJN torp branch, and the mid-low british, winning gun fights is pretty much a pipe dream(assuming head to head at full). The USN DD line falls largely into the master of none half of the above sentiment. @@LoanwordEggcorn your comment is really contradictory. I’m not sure what your trying to decipher about my comment(s). You have to keep in mind that the IJN gunboats have torp reload booster, which gives them a wall when they need it or the ability to get a close in dev strike. However your torps are pretty good as well so you can be flexible in how you approach things as the game state changes.
