- Hi friends!! The time is FINALLY here!! I finally get to setup my classroom! Today was the first day in and I didn't have too much to do, but I wanted to take y'all on the journey from start to finish!! Hope you enjoy!!!

Heres a tip: FIFTH GRADERS WILL DO ANYTHING I MEAN ANYTHING for EXTRA recess
THIS IS THE MOST TRUE THING EVER😭
So will 4th graders.
Actually I have no friends cause I’m socially awkward 😅 so extra recess is just more time suffering out side for me 😂

I recommend doing a class “store” my fifth grade teachers did it, anytime a kid or kids do something king or really good on school work they get a “dollar” (a piece of green paper) then they get to “buy” something every Friday. PS there are different color for different amounts 1=green 5=orange 10=yellow 20=purple. Another PS you could do suckers,pencils etc as 5, larger candy, etc, little toy, trinkets from target dollar section or dollar tree

My school used the exact same concept in 4th grade, and it is a pretty cool idea
Especially for a kid
A tip for fifth grade is some of them get nervous putting there hand up for help so you could give each child a red green and amber card that they can put on the end of there desks so if there fine with the work green, a little stuck (amber) and really stuck (red). Also I know they like personal things so we got like a mental health ball that squeezes and it’s really soft with a personal name on it and it is good for kids with autism or just when the kids are stressed or in a test. If they play with it you can just take it off them but make your own rules up for them. I hope this helped!

Omg THANKS!!! It’s a good little atmosphere around the portables! We are hopefully getting a bunch of picnic tables to put in the grass soon ☺️

It is so interesting to see how different schools are setting up during this unprecedented time. I haven’t seen one video that is actually taking the CDC guidelines into account.
Meanwhile I am gearing up to teach remotely and NOTHING is normal.
Even if we get back on campus there will be NO manipulatives, NO small groups....nothing NORMAL.

So exciting to hear a first year teacher with all your excitement. I still get excited too! One piece of advice I would give is make sure where ever you are teaching, make sure you can see the entire room. Don't back yourself in a corner. Make sure you can "see" the room. Good luck!

I recommend that when they are good, and it is reading time, you tell them that they can sit in the corner. ( Fill it with bean bags, pillows, rugs, etc. ) They’ll LOVE it.

I am wondering about that also.
In Illinois at least Chicago and cook county we goin back but it’s hybrid so like group a (a-k) r going 2 days a week they would go Monday and Wednesday while group b is on remote learning on zoom or google meets on the smart board and group b (l-z) would go Tuesday and Thursday while group a is on remote learning on zoom or google meets on the smart board and Friday is all remote learning /deep cleaning days
We can choose between online or in person in my school in Mississippi

Yo we don’t have bathrooms or water fountains in our room so it would be really helpful because kids are always asking to get waters to get out of the classroom

This is one of the things that I can’t wait for when I finish college and get my first classroom- setting it up. I’ve had so many ideas about classrooms, ever since I was a student in elementary my own self. I’ve even come up with a theme I love and hope to be able to do it at my future school, because it fits me so well!

Willow Talley Happy Campers/Forest, I love the idea of having a fake campfire where we can all sit around and talk about our weekends or what to expect from the week. Having a little tent for indoor play or even for a student to win as a prize to read in the tent

I’m in middle school and I have two doors as well! I found it’s easier to make one the entrance door and one the exit! : )
I’m just using one as the student door and one as my door because otherwise they’re going to be all up in my stuff with the new way I arranged my classroom after this video!

I'd love to teach in a portable! I was in a portable (nothing like your's… it was a literal trailer) in second grade-it was one of my favorite school years.
I remember trailers to and they definitely weren't as nice as this portable. I homeschool my little brother but I remember trailers from when I still went to public school.

fifth graders love when you tell story’s! When I was in 5th grade I love when my teacher told story’s from her child hood or funny memorjes!

As a 5th grader myself, make sure you get extra pads in a storage space in the bathroom cuz most girls, like me will be 11 and are going to be getting their first periods. I’ve already had mine 3 months ago, so be prepared!!!(also get ready for helping the first perioders!!)

We did that too. We got to choose 3 pieces of candy if we won a Kahoot. Good times 😪

My 2bffs going and my other one not she taking online classes.they also said if you take online classes you have to be on zoom at 7:00 in the morning or else they will count you as out. I feel sorry for her because she wake up late

Wow. Thank you for this video. It is helpful for first year and not new teachers set up. God bless you for your help. I like that you have a bathroom and drinking fountains in your room. Also the outdoor space is awesome. I would put blinds on the windows so students don't get distracted when I am teaching. I would open them in the morning when they eat breakfast so that they can have a nice start to the day with the morning sunshine. I would also open them during different times in the day when I am not teaching to add natural sunlight to the room.

I was a 5th Grader last year. The bad news is that I failed because of the whole quarantine thing and had to take online summer school. The good news is that I passed and now I'm in 6th grade! I love watching these types of videos. They're very calming.

Girl those are some NICE portables! I was a student in a portable back in 7th grade... it was just a rectangle classroom with a tiny window that the teacher claimed for his area! You having a bathroom in there blew my mind! I had a push-button light to signal that someone was in the restroom, then changed it to a sign that the students would flipped for “open” and “closed”. Obviously, neither of those ideas will work for this year... if you think of something for bathroom procedures, let us know! 😂
I wanted to use one of those mountable lights for them to push too! Oh well, not sure what i’ll do yet.
Curious of what your plans are for backpack storage. Also, would be a good idea to move your small group table/teacher corner to the left corner so your able to see all the students/room when working in that area.
They are building us storage outside for backpacks. Also I can see everything from the part of my room where the small group table is.
