I recommend doing a class “store” my fifth grade teachers did it, anytime a kid or kids do something king or really good on school work they get a “dollar” (a piece of green paper) then they get to “buy” something every Friday. PS there are different color for different amounts 1=green 5=orange 10=yellow 20=purple. Another PS you could do suckers, pencils etc as 5, larger candy, etc, little toy, trinkets from target dollar section or dollar tree
A tip for fifth grade is some of them get nervous putting there hand up for help so you could give each child a red green and amber card that they can put on the end of there desks so if there fine with the work green, a little stuck (amber) and really stuck (red). Also I know they like personal things so we got like a mental health ball that squeezes and it’s really soft with a personal name on it and it is good for kids with autism or just when the kids are stressed or in a test. If they play with it you can just take it off them but make your own rules up for them. I hope this helped!
It is so interesting to see how different schools are setting up during this unprecedented time. I haven’t seen one video that is actually taking the CDC guidelines into account. Meanwhile I am gearing up to teach remotely and NOTHING is normal. Even if we get back on campus there will be NO manipulatives, NO small groups....nothing NORMAL.
So exciting to hear a first year teacher with all your excitement. I still get excited too! One piece of advice I would give is make sure where ever you are teaching, make sure you can see the entire room. Don't back yourself in a corner. Make sure you can "see" the room. Good luck!
That’s true when I was a fifth grader I would do almost anything for candy! I’m going onto eighth grade this year and I would probably still do anything for candy.
I recommend that when they are good, and it is reading time, you tell them that they can sit in the corner. ( Fill it with bean bags, pillows, rugs, etc. ) They’ll LOVE it.
Hi! I’m also Emma lol. I’m a fifth grader and ik this was 4y ago but I still have some things/tips about fifth graders. First is Fifth graders will do ANYTHING for extra recess and sometimes my teacher does things like finish extra work or having the whole class have a great morning for extra recess time but of course you have to make it a bit advanced because we are all 10/11y olds. Another tip is points. Last year my teacher did all kinds of different points systems. Group points are the best systems which you basically give a few points to groups who are working together well or are all on task. We started with class points but trust me, and I really mean it, trust me, class points are a class meeting danger zone so don’t do them. Which that brings me to class meetings. Fifth graders are growing up and experiencing puberty, real feelings, and insecurities. Class meetings are a great way to let your kids talk about bullies, incidents, feelings, classroom problems, etc. you get the point. My next tip is lunch time. For some kids lunch is a stressful situation. Growing up in a small school I didn’t have this problem, until fourth grade. Fourth grade was super stressful and it was very hard to sit in the loud noises and food throwing (stuff like that.) A great opportunity is a once a week classroom lunch where you can pick a few kids to come in and eat. You can use like coupons are tickets. Which brings me to my next point. Coupons. My fourth grade teacher had coupons for winning table groups every Friday. They can just hand them in when they use them and you can put them up on a board or something. My last tip is about desk setup. The best way to arrange desks during the first quarter is randomized so you can figure out what groups work best by changing it up around 2-4 times in the first quarter. After the first quarter it will be easier to arrange desks in a way where almost all students are comfortable. That’s all I have right now and please like this so she can see because this took me almost an hour to write 😅. What can I say, I’m in writing club. But thank you if you made it this far.
Omg the little portable classrooms are so cute and the bridge between them all the most aesthetic school ever just wow it’s like out of a fairytale I love it!
This is one of the things that I can’t wait for when I finish college and get my first classroom- setting it up. I’ve had so many ideas about classrooms, ever since I was a student in elementary my own self. I’ve even come up with a theme I love and hope to be able to do it at my future school, because it fits me so well! Happy classroom and I hope you have a good year!
Willow Talley Happy Campers/Forest, I love the idea of having a fake campfire where we can all sit around and talk about our weekends or what to expect from the week. Having a little tent for indoor play or even for a student to win as a prize to read in the tent
In Illinois at least Chicago and cook county we goin back but it’s hybrid so like group a (a-k) r going 2 days a week they would go Monday and Wednesday while group b is on remote learning on zoom or google meets on the smart board and group b (l-z) would go Tuesday and Thursday while group a is on remote learning on zoom or google meets on the smart board and Friday is all remote learning /deep cleaning days
I’m just using one as the student door and one as my door because otherwise they’re going to be all up in my stuff with the new way I arranged my classroom after this video!
I feel like you should do desk pets even though kids might think its childish i think its still super cute i know its more for like younger kids but still very adorable!!
Yo we don’t have bathrooms or water fountains in our room so it would be really helpful because kids are always asking to get waters to get out of the classroom
I'd love to teach in a portable! I was in a portable (nothing like your's… it was a literal trailer) in second grade-it was one of my favorite school years.
I remember trailers to and they definitely weren't as nice as this portable. I homeschool my little brother but I remember trailers from when I still went to public school.
@@theroadtocosplayandcomicco5840 Our school has so many of them, They are the only things that have air. The rest of our buildings have no air and are 100 or more years old.
As a 5th grader myself, make sure you get extra pads in a storage space in the bathroom cuz most girls, like me will be 11 and are going to be getting their first periods. I’ve already had mine 3 months ago, so be prepared!!!(also get ready for helping the first perioders!!)
It’s nice to have your door lead right outside! I don’t have one.. I can’t wait to see what you do with your room! I start setting up next week and I’ll be vlogging mine too✨
I was a 5th Grader last year. The bad news is that I failed because of the whole quarantine thing and had to take online summer school. The good news is that I passed and now I'm in 6th grade! I love watching these types of videos. They're very calming.
“This room is kinda tiny” Lmao when I was in 6th grade, we had a tiny trailer that was 10 years old and it was half the size of that no air conditioning, bathroom, or running water
Wow. Thank you for this video. It is helpful for first year and not new teachers set up. God bless you for your help. I like that you have a bathroom and drinking fountains in your room. Also the outdoor space is awesome. I would put blinds on the windows so students don't get distracted when I am teaching. I would open them in the morning when they eat breakfast so that they can have a nice start to the day with the morning sunshine. I would also open them during different times in the day when I am not teaching to add natural sunlight to the room.
So excited for you! I'm going to be a first year teacher, too. I was a Teaching Fellow the year before and and SPED Para before that. Hyped to have my own room!
I remember that in my 5th grade class the kids would always jump on the wood to try and break it when we were leaving our portable classrooms, the kids successfully broke it a few times
Here's a tip from a passed 5th grader *I'm in middle school* the kids will do anything for candy like if it's a prize if they win a kahoot game trust me it works
I’m going,my school said that you can do online classes or go to school. My 2bffs going and my other one not she taking online classes.they also said if you take online classes you have to be on zoom at 7:00 in the morning or else they will count you as out. You say that your classroom is tiny but you should see my classroom that I learn in. We are in the portables and it is sooo loud. You can hear all the screams from the children at recess
I am going into 5th grade. 1 more year till Middle School. Ugh. Anyways for some reason, I am obsessed with watching teachers set up their classroom space for 2020. I just like seeing how their space is going to look because of Covid-19.
Ugh I’ve never seen a brand new classroom empty, so nice 😍. I wonder why the chose to go with that type of flooring, that’s going to be a lot of extra work to upkeep for the janitors than just vacuuming
In Australia we don’t buy are school supplies from like target We buy it from our school uniform shop and the tables are already there from the previous year Edit: at the students get it not the teachers that’s what I have notice

My teacher did that too but 4 weeks into the 1st term she quit

My first and fourth grade teacher did something similar to this
My school used the exact same concept in 4th grade, and it is a pretty cool idea

‘This room is actually kinda tiny’ At my school, our rooms are half that size but have like 16 double desks in each one!😂
It is pretty tiny. Maybe it's just because of the camera
Its a room for fifth graders thats why stop thinking u alk dat smh
