This was the album and song that bought the band their freedom. After Caress of Steel with it's 20 minute concept piece The Fountain of Lamneth falling on deaf ears and not selling, the Record company threatened to dump them if they didn't come up with a more commercial, radio friendly album. Rush responded with 2112, an even longer, proggier piece that shocked the label but through mostly word of mouth took off and became their most successful record up to that time. After that nobody at the Record company ever questioned them again and from then on Rush was free to do whatever they wanted. 😊🇨🇦

This tour was the only time they played the entire suite. It was a real treat for the fans! About Alex's guitar playing.... he LOVES to play the guitar. He would warm up before a show by playing in the dressing rooms for a while (they'd all do their exercises). But after the show when he'd go back to the hotel room? He'd unwind by playing his guitar. The man is an amazing musician.

I was a 15 year old school band drummer in 1982 when I saw my first concert, Rush. I was lucky enough to see them another 14 times through the years.🔥🙏🤘🏻

    Just subscribed.
This song was a finger to their record label who were very unhappy with the prog direction the band was taking.
They wanted more radio friendly pop songs.
This was Rush's answer. A 20 minute suite that took up one side of the album. They kept their integrity and stuck to the music they wanted to play.
The album was a huge success and the record label never bothered them again.
    Rush took control.
Progressive rock borrows from classical music having a number of different movements in one song. There is a nod to the 1812 overture in the opening section. It's a masterpiece!
    Other songs
Digital Man from the Snakes and Arrows tour
Secret Touch from the Snakes and Arrows tour
Natural Science from the Molson Amphitheatre Toronto
    Cheers 🇨🇦

Really enjoyed your reaction. I was at this concert and I believe this was the last tour that Rush played the entire chapter and verse of 2112. 2112 , the song and the album, really brought Rush forward as one of the greatest bands of all time. That is not to say their earlier work is not great stuff … it is.

Geddy and Alex have been best friends since high school, and Neil was with them from their second album in 1975, right up until he died in 2020. 2112 was basically their way of saying "stick it up your @$$" to record execs who were threatening to drop them after their third album if they didn't come up with more short, radio-friendly songs, and its success gave them the freedom to chart their own musical course without any more interference. If you'd like to hear another epic masterpiece, I'd like to recommend Cygnus X-1, which begins as the closing track on their 1977 album A Farewell To Kings and continues as the opening track on their 1978 album Hemispheres. Cheers from Toronto!

With so much that can be said of why they made 2112...(watch "Beyond that lighted stage") history of Rush.
This in 97 was after they're almost 5 year stoppage. Neil lost his daughter and wife within a year, so Rush may have never came together again, but Neil healed in his own manner (covered two continents on a 50,000 mile motorcycle solo journey. Here they are having prevailed, and live shows after this you'll see washers and dryers, or oven -roasted chickens cooking on stage. They were All about having fun. I know you would have gone to that show over keeping me job, but tons of albums are here to enjoy. Neil wrote most lyrics. He was truly amazing and humble.

Neil’s hiatus was from 1997 (after the “Test for Echo” tour) to 2001 (started work on “Vapor Trails”).

Subscribed. Great performance and reaction. If you would like to explore more and expand your channel, may I suggest a reaction to BABYMETAL. They are unique and have a worldwide fan base (The One). Their music has a positive and uplifting message. They have a fun and awesome performance:

    Or:
    MAYA【Live Blu-ray/DVD「BABYMETAL BEGINS - THE OTHER ONE -」"BLACK NIGHT"】

You seem to like the "harder" music, I think, So here are a couple of good for you. Both from their 30th anniversary concert in Frankfurt, Germany. I would be interested to see your reaction to them. Thanks.
