not to mention in most areas you'll never see a return on the initial investment as that thing is bound to blow long before you saved enough on water bills to pay for it.

I'd still be careful with consumption in certain areas. Depends on the state and global wind patterns. they never mentioned any freezing concerns or winterization issues with this system seeing as its permanently installed. even a thick rubber bladder needs to be cared for with regards to freezing and sharp pointy objects. Its not like this is a military-use fuel bladder...
If you have a slope in the yard you could use gravity to feed the water out and save from using a pump. or raise the bag higher on something to get more gravity.
I just did this with a smaller barrel .. The overflow is way too small (at least in my application..) My roof area is 24' x 22'.. I live in the Ohio River valley and we've seen nonstop rain for about ten days .. when it's raining reasonably hard, the barrel is full and overflowing coming out of a hose end at the bottom, and a 2.5" overflow at the top.. I'm going to try a 4" overflow.. hopefully it's enough, I was disappointed !
I hope the homeowner didn’t have to pay for this. 2 used food grade IBC totes will get you close to 700 gallons and you could put them up on cinder blocks to gravity feed the water, eliminate the pump and save electricity. And that thing is ugly, will likely puncture when a rock thrown by the lawnmower or trimmer hits it. I like TOH, but the landscape ideas they have sometimes baffles me.
ike fun Maybe he’s afraid that a cat uses it as a scratching post. I don’t think dogs have any interests in this waterpillow. And cats like something wood much more so i dont think this is an issue.
Yeah, that's sad isn't it?? I think that's mostly because you might get to a point where you don't need to "pay" the city for what what falls out of the sky!
@webbcityfilms BS. Go to the us government energy site, they have a map on it. Some states have a few regulations on it (like every other plumbing fixture) but the vast majority actively encourage you to do so. In Texas the HOAs are prohibited from banning the equipment.
I would imagine you need to drain the system and put the pump in the basement, it's a little extra work but if the person doesn't care then... No need to water the lawn in freezing temps if that all he wants to do ?
I think its for people who want to use it to fill their ponds in dry spells. I guess that's why they bury their tanks in the ground where its warmer in the winter.
this pillow crap is stupid, flexible pipes can kink and the pillow is just stupid, ever had a waterbed? they always leak eventually. just use some 300 gallon ibc totes
water beds only leak because people sleep or they bounce on them having sex. These pillows don't have people laying or bouncing on them so they may last longer.
Roger is a Legend! Love these guys, great memories, I hope they never retire!!
Roger already retired... They've got a lot of new people now as "apprentices" to do the work in an effort to get more people interested in the trades.

Rest in peace, Roger. You were the best!
Cool in the winter, wet in the summer!
very cool and i like the filter thing as well of course. looks easy enough
Very cool project Roger! Any concerns for freezing? Awesome and thank you 🇺🇸
"Roger, whats that pipe in your hand?"
I wonder how long it was before he wished he had thirteen 55 gallon drums instead of this thing?
First thing i would do is putting some walls around this thing because it is ugly as hell

About a month or two wheb that flexibke pipe degraded into powder
This Is A Brilliant System, I need It To
He said he can't wait to start saving water, but just put 650 gallons of water from the hose into that thing
You say that as if he's just gonna dump the water out and waste it. It will get used just the same.
@@black_squall not the point...the point is someone has to pay for that 650 gallons of water used to fill that thing

One thing though. Rain water is better than city water. So it may be worth it for some.

@@lifeisgood070 New Mexico and Texas have tons of coal burning plants. Oregon is getting theirs from China. Fracking is fine, it happens far below the water table.
could have used 130 or 250 gallon IBC totes instead of barrels
That's what I was thinking, and you can even paint them so they don't look terrible and they'll be a lot more durable than that pillow
What's a tahhhhp?
Its what you lay the waaataa pillow on top of for the waaata for the yaaad
We have 5000 gallons of rain water in our system. I'm posting videos of the system build now.
Put the pillow on tahp of the tahp.
How does he keep the pillow from freezing in the winter?
They don't you don't water your lawn in the winter.
Drain the pillow than block off the pipe to the pillow so if it rains in winter the water will go to the ground instead of the pillow
Now i can do that
That's a rain on demand:)
I think I need a good taap for my gaaden
Did this old house reimburse him for the 600 gallons lol
EL Brown I was thinking the same
EL Brown To be fair, I think anyone would have done the same to see if everything worked as it should.
it cost less than $3 for that 650 gallons
We don't live in california lol, id guess you're not in the midwest either. Here its a penny a gallon
Which type of filter pad is used...??
I use an 2 ibc tanks that holds 1000 liters each. I think that that is way more dursble than this bag.
better call tom silva because i'm sure the water bill is through the roof after filling that thing!
🤔
to repair the roof! you know, cuz the bill went though the roof...
you are slow
you do realize it cost less than $3 for that 650 gallons

“We’re going to install this water pillow to collect rain water so you can save water from the hose. First thing we’re going to do is fill the whole thing up with water from the hose.”
Do you suppose he kept refilling it with the hose after that first time? Is that what you suppose?
This system costs over $2,000!!! Payback in about 10 years if the components last that long.
I think I would be to buy a small above ground pool and a pool cover to hold rain water. Much more Afforable.
DIY you could do it for a lot cheaper. Recycled 275 gallon IBC totes are $45. Just need to install a diverter, some fittings, and a $100 pump.
they never mentioned any freezing concerns or winterization issues with this system seeing as its permanently installed. even a thick rubber bladder needs to be cared for with regards to freezing and sharp pointy objects. Its not like this is a military-use fuel bladder...
Drain and put pump, bladder in basement.
Why is the top laying on the bottom of this water pillow? And how much does your water cost when it's cheaper to run a pump than to use city water?
Just gotta lay down the taaaaaap
What kind of pump is this.?
Of course, don’t let your states DEP, or federal EPA get word of you doing this!
Turn the tables on them, claim it as a water treatment device.
Why do you say that? The EPA advocates the use of rain barrels: www.epa.gov/soakuptherain/soak-rain-rain-barrels
so you put the top under the pillow?
I like it but it needs to be covered because that rainwater bed is ugly to look at.
I'm on board with everything up until the "We filled your 650 gallon pillow with tap water."
I know it has to be tested but jeepers.
This is going to save you money so I wasted a lot filling the thing with water
Great! Now he can save water by having to run an electric pump every time he wants to water his lawn.
ike fun electric pump... dont you get it sherlock?
Electricity cheaper than the water so there will be a net difference.
ok so where are the links so that people can purchase the system that he just helped dude install? unless im missing it I dont see it anywhere

Why do you assume he wasted the water? He clearly has high water requirements.
Tap
bet they don't sell many of these and a anti syphon on the garden hose thats above the water LOL
What are the chances of a spiteful animal clawing the big bladder and making it rupture?
When it bursts because some kid wants to crawl around on it and poke it with a sharp stick, all that water is going to go into the basement.
1) the thing is under a deck, and will ultimately be covered (as stated in the video).
2) the yard is significantly sloped.
I don't see the water pump thing.... what is it?
If you have a slope in the yard you could use gravity to feed the water out and save from using a pump. or raise the bag higher on something to get more gravity.
