Umbau des Thermostat ist unnötig! Für den M62 Motor (der alte ohne Vanos) nimmt man das mechanische Thermostat (85°) des E31 840Ci und für den M62TU Motor (ab ca. 09/98) das mechanische Thermostat (88°) vom E38 740d. Passen jeweils P&P ohne irgendwelche umbauten. Das E31 Thermostat ist die sogenannte Heißlandausführung, gibt es NUR bei BMW. Das für den TU Motor vom 740d gibt es auch günstiger von BEHR, und ist mit dem original absolut identisch da Erstausrüster.

The new thermostat is from a BMW 840. I think the bill with the Partnumber in in the film too. But there is a new possibility: search for a thermostat for a BMW E38 740D - ask your Dealer, so you will have the right connecter to the tubes.

Hallo, wir haben an dem Thermostatinnenleben leider nur die Gradzahl ablesen können. Eine andere Bezeichnung oder Nummer haben wir nicht gesehen. Ja es wurde bei BMW gekauft. Falls wir mehr Infos zum Innenleben auftreiben, werden wir gerne hier berichten.
Das Thermostatinnenleben ist identisch mit dem eines normalen Thermostats, bis auf das Vorhandensein eines Heizelements, welches durch die DME über ein Kennfeld angesteuert wird. Dadurch wird das Öffnen und Schließen elektronisch beeinflusst.
Can't you just plug the connector for the heating element instead of removing it? What would be the difference if any? The computer will still open it until reaching certain temps right which in this case will never be reached or am I missing something? Very nice job btw!
If the thermostat fail it may causes a short circuit in the line and the computer can be damaged. We had the situation in the past - in the display: Motor Notprogramm. "Engine Emergency Program" we stand near the highway and the engine doesn't start. See the old thermostats in the film. There is one charred thermostat. The computer can not drive a failed thermostat.
I get it with a bad one, but what about using a good one and replace the internals, that will leave the heating element intact and usable so it won't be the need of cutting it out, right?. BTW, I didn't know it could damage the DME.
If you open the thermostat you may damage the electric internals - an the came in contact with the water. The other Thermostat (-Inlet) opens at a deeper temperature / it opens earlier. The electric heating element doesn't work a long time. After 4 bad thermostats - we had enough! The colder temperature at the system will save the plastic parts in your cooling systems a longer time. Check whether the thermostat from the E38 740D can be placed in your Car by p&p. Check the tube connectors too!! There are electrical resistance available in www which simulate that there is a electric thermostat on the wire to the dme.

Hallo als erstes ein tolles Video. Habe auch einen b44er laut Recherche ist der Thermostat Wechsel sinnvoll da man dann immer volle Leistung hat. Vorteile Schlauch hält langlebiger.. Und konstante Temperatur. Aber eine Frage wie macht man das mit dem Stecker da ja Fehler angezeigt wird. Mfg
Danke für das tolle Feedback! Seither haben wir auch keine Temperaturprobleme mehr. Auch die Haltbarkeit der Schläuche, Ausgleichsbehälter etc. hat sich erhöht (keine Ausfälle mehr!). Nun 415.000 km auf dem Tacho! Da wir ab und zu (meist im heißen Sommer) auch einen 2 Tonnen Wohnwagen dran hängen haben, haben wir als weitere Maßnahme auch einen Tropen-Kühler und zusätzlich einen Tropen Visko-Lüfter eingebaut (evtl. kommt dazu auch ein Video). Einziger Nachteil, im Winter schaltet sich unsere Gasanlage etwas später zu.
why does the original 88 degree C thermostat don't have a plug for the sensor? you would get an error, if you couldn't connect the wires to thermostat, don't you?
Aber die 108 Grad im teillastbereich sind doch voll ok. Der schaltet doch erst bei Vollgas das thermostat auf 85 Grad. Sonst wäre es ja kein kennfeld thermostat.

No error.
Its not a sensor. Its a resistor to warm water to 105 to open thermostat.
I did It and install thermostat from 740d and perfect
