Ngl re watching this after having something similar happen makes this scene that much more visceral. Being genuinely happy they’re happy cause you love them while confirming all hope is gone. Makes you feel like a weights been lifted and nauseous all at the same time.
Brooke and Scott did such a convincing job of conveying pain and longing in this scene and the breakup scene. Makes your heart break for them both. Superb acting, especially if you've lived it yourself....😕
This was a criminally underrated show. Ray is the man! Always hated when these two broke-up, and this scene....man. If you've lived, loved or lost (maybe all 3?) you know this feeling. There's some happiness, some sadness, some nostalgia, a sense of what could've been. A lot in this 2:15.
This was such an underrated show and completely flew under the radar of....just about everyone. It was dark, but funny at times, and Ray was really something to behold when he was "working."
So many comments clearly missed the point of the show. Yes to him, violence is an everyday thing, but it isn't for most people, and certainly should not have a place in any loving relationship. She had every right to break up with him out of fear for herself. Despite that, this scene was just so... Real. Just two people acknowledging the past and looking ahead to a brighter future, dealing with their emotions like adults. "Im glad you're happy, that's all I wanted" is said so casually, but there is so much weight behind that. It's heartbreaking, and it's beautiful.
As much as Ray loved Ally, he could not pull himself away from the life that he chose. He clearly could have chosen another line of work. We see this choice in the final scene of the series.
Before discovering Mr. In-between I never thought I would find something to dethrone Sopranos, Breaking bad, and Chernobyl. But I did. This really is the best show I've ever watched, with the best character of all time.
100% with you. This show is so under the radar. I binged it last year and was very impressed. The only thing i don't like is there wasn't more seasons.
I liked the show. Scenes like this seemed very authentic. It did have some problems though, for instance the Ray and Ally break up felt a bit contrived especially the way the brother acts like a total asshole for no reason whatsoever.
Biggest one for me was Ray not helping his cell mate out in prison when he was only in trouble in the first place because he was with Ray. Totally out of character.
Not really. She was previously in a physically abusive relationship and had seen Ray use violence to address problems on several occasions. The audience may know that he would never be violent towards her, but from her perspective it’s totally understandable why she wouldn’t want to take the risk again.
Just watched season 1+2, Amazing series! Can't afford box set or anything fancy like that, so luckily enough they were for loan at the state library, sadly, no season 3 though. Honestly, my $0.05... For such an amazing Australian series, very surprised it's not on ABC iView or sbs on demand really.
the man kills people for a living, she didnt know that specific fact but she saw the darkness he had in him that allowed him to do that sort of thing and understandably wanted to not be apart of it, she knew he had something more going on with him. Aly was a victim of domestic abuse. I think she was afraid ray could potentially be like that (though she didn’t know for sure ray wasn’t that kind of person).
Ray is a better man than me! If the woman I loved and tried to protect just 💩 on me, there is NO WAY I would have any dialogue henceforth! I woulda waved (or better yet, acted like I didn't see her) and drove away! We had our time --- you didn't like it (or me), so just keep it moving! Ok, let's be honest. The ending we REALLY wanted to see was Ray running over and bashing the new hubby, who then drives away bawling. Ally jumps in Ray's car, gives him a loooong kiss and says "Took ya long enough!", and they drive away into the sunset and live happily ever after. The End.🙂👍

Ah yes, the woman who had been repeatedly physically abused in a previous relationship thus was worried about Ray's violent outburst outside the liquor store and tried to talk to him about it only for Ray to then kick her brother through a glass window over a unicorn candle at a family Christmas party. She broke up with Ray in an extremely mature way even though it was devastating for the both of them. She is then extremely cordial with him after they run into each other a long time later. That's the way all breakups should be. A little awkward, a little bit happy to see each other, but happier with your current situation.
No
Should be
i just love how real every convo in this show feels.
Ray's actor is phenomenal. So much melancholy in such a simple conversation.
He also wrote the entire series.
“I’m glad you’re happy … it’s all I ever wanted “ damn that hits hard… he really did love Ally , I really hoped theyd reconcile at some point.
One of the most genuine people Ray

She is gorgeous.
You're right, it's midly sexual
Brooke is so underrated
Saddest 2 minutes of that entire series for me.
Yep, though the breakup scene in Season 2 was pretty painful, too. So superbly acted that these two scenes "compliment" each other....
"Has your b/f thrown your brother through a glass door yet?"
That smile on her reminds me of that actress who plays Maggie on The walking dead
It's extremely similar, it's why I find girls like Brooke Satchwell and Lauren Cohan some of the most beautiful women in the world.
@ it is probably the jaw line or something. They look like they could play sisters.
